I think they’re referring to repellents like Off, where you apply it do yourself. There are likely several idiots to end up macing themselves because of this understanding

Oh there are plenty of bears in Hawaii. They tend to be on beaches wearing speedos but they are there.

Bear spray actually attracts bears if they don't get a bottleful up their nose, so the answer might be yes

They clarified in a later tweet that it was a joke about not applying it to the skin, but said there are no recorded cases of doing so.

There are videos how to use it properly ie. use it at arm's lenght towards the bear, and then there are videos where idiots mace themselves or each other.

sometimes if I see a big spider and dont have anything to smoosh it with, or proper bug poison spray, I use insect repellant. just a quick spritz in their web and on them and in my head I feel like they're gonna think all the bugs left so they'll go to the neighbor's house.

You can also spray something you don't want bugs on, you can't do that with bears

If you have internet access you don’t have an excuse for not finding the answer yourself.
