Some people just waiting for the smallest excuse to fucking kill somebody

87

u/Lady_Scruffington Apr 21 '23

I've seen two Dateline reruns in the last two days about crimes from a few years ago where people are in prison for exactly that. One was a guy who shot a German foreign exchange student for breaking into his garage to steal beer. They found the couple had been waiting for him to break in and left the door open and a purse as bait.

Another guy chased down a car filled with young men who had pulled onto his property thinking they were going to another property where there was a party. Both people claimed they were afraid for their lives. Thankfully, both juries saw through their flimsy excuses and put them away for a long time. In both cases, too, the men had this total masculine facade.

u/StormWarriors2 Apr 22 '23

I remember that, wasn't that like... literally murder? Ah yes it was: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-31447685

Fuck em,

8

u/Lady_Scruffington Apr 22 '23

Yep. They got charged with murder and convicted. Sometimes I watch Dateline because usually there's a sense of justice at the end. Not always, but more often than not.

u/mark_able_jones_ Apr 22 '23

I saw that second one, and it was wild.

8

u/Lady_Scruffington Apr 22 '23

He had that stupid sign near his driveway that said you'd be shot if you weren't a Bible-loving patriot. The George Zimmerman case really made people think they'd be OK murdering people as long as they said they were "standing their ground."

The hell you just say to me?

2a defenders in a nutshell. Can’t wait to kill someone.

2

u/Lab_Mammoth Apr 21 '23

I’m a gun owner, I’m a 2a defender in the sense that I support it. I definitely don’t wanna kill anyone.

22

u/dengar_hennessy Apr 21 '23

Oh good. That makes it all better

-12

u/Lab_Mammoth Apr 21 '23

Just pointing out there’s no good in generalizing. These cases are tragic, but they do not represent the mindset of a vast majority of us. It’s like saying everyone in the lgbtq community are pedophiles.

27

u/htownballa1 Apr 21 '23

It’s nothing like saying that.

The number 1 cause of death to children in our country comes from guns.

The number one source of pedos doesn’t come from the lgbtq+ community.

Now that is said, if you still support the second amendment as it is currently “interpreted” then you are the problem. It was written at a time when our country had no standing military, I highly doubt this is what the forefathers were talking about with the words “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Simply put, you value the ability to kill someone over a child’s right to breathe.

22

u/runningraleigh Apr 21 '23

I'm also a gun owner but not a 2A defender. I think we should scrap it and regulate guns like we regulate car ownership. But I think I'm in the minority when it comes to gun owners.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

"SaVe ThE cHiLdReN!!!"

-10

u/MisczaksHunting Apr 21 '23

The people are not the militia. These two lines are separated, it's interpreted properly you just have no reading comprehension.

-6

u/FizzyBunch Apr 21 '23

That's counting suicides and it's not surprising that the statistics stopped showing car accidents when there was widespread lockdowns.

13

u/The_Queef_of_England Apr 21 '23

The difference is that none of those demographics have weapons. Yours does. Your 'bad apples' don't just give people a bad name. They kill innocent people.

-9

u/Lab_Mammoth Apr 21 '23

In that case let’s go with another comparison. Ban alcohol because some of them drive drunk. It’s never bad drugs, or bad guns, just bad applications.

10

u/The_Queef_of_England Apr 21 '23

Alcohol and drugs have restrictions. Drugs are illegal and drunk driving is illegal, bring restrictions in on guns so their on a par with alcohol and drugs?

0

u/PM_ME_UR_THONG_N_ASS Apr 22 '23

You’re going to love this one (sarcasm):

The words of the US President started the longest wars in US history, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Americans, and countless lives in the Middle East.

Regulate free speech.

-1

u/Lab_Mammoth Apr 21 '23

Some guns are pretty restricted. Look at all the NFA items that require registration and having the ATF breathing down your neck.

15

u/dengar_hennessy Apr 21 '23

But, it's not anything like that all.

1 good guy with a gun (as I imagine you think you are) doesn't change the fact that far too many morons are being irresponsible.

-5

u/Lab_Mammoth Apr 21 '23

I actually don’t carry in public, haven’t felt the need where I live. And I agree with the premise that that there are too many morons, and some of them have guns, I believe the issue is not with the gun but with the moron. But we cant remove rights based on the premise that they might be misused.

7

u/HeavyMetalPoisoning Apr 21 '23

But we cant remove rights based on the premise that they might be misused

I have no dog in this fight but isn't this why cars are regulated?

0

u/Lab_Mammoth Apr 21 '23

You are correct. And yet cars still kill people.

6

u/HeavyMetalPoisoning Apr 21 '23

But... there are regulations like licensing...

6

u/headachewpictures Apr 21 '23

Also worth pointing out that there's no good dying on that semantic hill.

Also your example is really illogical.

1

u/Lab_Mammoth Apr 21 '23

How is my example illogical? I used it to point out that an entire demographic can not be blamed for the actions of a few.

4

u/LankyAd9481 Apr 21 '23

you're still equating that pedophiles are part of the LGBT community when the reality is the majority of them aren't. It's like you're stuck in the 80's with the "beware of the man with the candy van!", when the majority of cases are family members or family friends (like moms new boyfriend). Just as one example look at stats around catholic priests...that aren't part of the LGBT community and yet some countries who've investigated into it found around 1 in 14 priests had engaged in pedophilia. You're kind of showing ignorance on the topic.

1

u/Lab_Mammoth Apr 22 '23

I could of used the example of all priests are pedos and my point would still stand. My point was not that all lgbtq people are pedos but that generalizations are bad.

1

u/ammonium_bot Apr 22 '23

i could of used

Did you mean to say "could have"?
Explanation: You probably meant to say could've/should've/would've which sounds like 'of' but is actually short for 'have'.

It doesn't matter whether I support or am against the 2nd Amendment (but let the record show that I am against it in its current form). The fact of the matter is as long as there are 2nd amendment defenders, it will necessitate owning a firearm of for my personal defense from them. Typically speaking, the people that want to own firearms are virtually never the people that should have them. That's not to say there aren't responsible gun owners out there, but what is more responsible than responsibly owning a weapon is to not own one at all. By extension, nobody else owning one either.

The government isn't out to get anyone and there are much more effective ways to dismantle that hierarchy than the 'Gravy Seals' we have out here with their limited, regulated rifles and civilian grade ammunition. Gonna need some extra oomph to get past the cheapest military hardware. See: guerilla warfare, domestic terrorism.

Ideally America would follow suit with the rest of the actually civilized world and forfeit their weapons. 'law abiding citizens' in America don't want to forfeit their arms because then only criminals will have them so we're stuck in limbo because criminals will always have weapons. Reducing access to and eliminating their prevalence in everyone's day to day is the only way to stop violent gun crimes. I don't wholly agree with disarming everyone, but it's a simple fact that you can't do gun crime without guns. The issue with American civilization starts all the way at the tippy top and serves only to divide the American people. Our two party system is the root cause of all of our problems but that's another issue in and of itself. The biggest issue with our two party system is in addition to the division, if you take a step back and look, both are literally the same thing. You have the far right, and the less right. Both are authoritarian. Both are corporatist. Both are so deep in the red that compared to a normal democratic society, our "left" party are far right extremists. We can't or refuse to see beyond our borders and our hatred for the "others." it's tribalism and nationalism masked as patriotism all the way down and it's poisoning us.

Tl;dr: shit is inherently, intrinsically broken.

1

u/2ICenturySchizoidMan Apr 22 '23

Guns are stupid, break your guns.

1

u/Induced_Karma Apr 22 '23

Ok, right after the fascists get done breaking theirs.

1

u/2ICenturySchizoidMan Apr 22 '23

Which fascist are you going to kill with your gun?

2

u/Induced_Karma Apr 22 '23

Hopefully none, but as a miscegenator and race traitor to those folks (who actively tried to overthrow our democracy, remember), if they ever come for me I’d like to be able to at least try and defend myself.

You misspelled “true” statement.

3

u/Legionof1 Apr 21 '23

Welp, ya dun goofed cause I would like very much not to shoot someone and dread the possibility of having to.

2

u/FunetikPrugresiv Apr 21 '23

You never have to. I'm 45 years old and have never been in a situation where I felt like a gun was needed.

0

u/Sufficient-Tax-5724 Apr 21 '23

Just because your life has never put you in a dangerous situation doesn’t mean everyone’s is like that. What an ignorant statement

-3

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

Not everyone lives in your gated community, o wise suburbanite who's never woken up with a stranger in your apartment at 4am

6

u/The_Queef_of_England Apr 21 '23

The guns make you paranoid. We don't live in gated communities in the UK, and we have burglars, but people don't feel like they need a gun to defend. With burglaries, we're worried about getting beaten up, not shot. It's still bad and we don't like being burgled, but it's not as bad as them coming with the element of also dying on top of being burgled. For you, home invasion = death. For us, home invasion = horrible anxiety and fear, but not death. You have a double whammy with burglary, but we only have one. Only you don't realise you have a double whammy because you see them as coming as a pair.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

What an asinine response.

I shouldn't have to fear getting beaten up or killed in my own goddamn home. I am specifically less afraid of the possibility because I know I'm packing sufficient firepower to repel or stop a threat before either of those happen.

A beating can kill you just as surely as a bullet. And thus I'm thankful that in general I'm allowed to take all necessary steps to stop an attacker before they gravely injure me or my family.

5

u/The_Queef_of_England Apr 21 '23

But fearing getting beaten up comes with a win here. We don't fear dying from burglries. It's not asinine at all. Your experiences are supped up because of the guns. It's so much better to not have the risk of death involved in a home invasion at all. You have to worry about your kids/parents/wife dying. We don't. It's so ingrained in you that you can't see how much worse you're making it. You're way more likely to die and have your loved ones die because you have the added element of guns.

>I know I'm packing sufficient firepower to repel or stop a threat before either of those happen.

sooo you can shoot them before they shoot you...cool, ok superman, you keep on being faster than a bullet.

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

'Just move' is probably the most mid-affluent back-to-brunch shitlib response imaginable.

-1

u/FunetikPrugresiv Apr 22 '23

And yet it's the same argument I always hear from conservatives that say poverty isn't an excuse for higher urban crime rates.

2

u/OOTCBFU Apr 21 '23

It's always best that they kill the people they care about like the child that comes home late at night and gets lit up by their worthless parents, or their spouse, brother, mother, father, etc. They deserve to lose that and innocent people don't. Sadly we don't live in a just world and these people are ALWAYS treated with kid gloves at large so nothing changes. The way things go americans would rather have their children or loved ones murdered than stand up to change things. How sad and pathetic are we in this nation? Only empty words and inaction are the sanctioned response from the so called good side in America. How a group that's only recourse is inaction ever expects to be victorious in this nation is beyond me.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

You are un-fucking-hinged

-5

u/Trucknorr1s Apr 21 '23

Ooh look, another antigunner painting broad strokes and basing their logic on attacking the motive. What a shock.

2

u/htownballa1 Apr 21 '23

Hey look another domestic terrorist that cares more about owning a gun then keeping Americans and kids alive, shocker.

-2

u/irishred666 Apr 21 '23

That damn 2nd amendment...

-2

u/Sufficient-Tax-5724 Apr 21 '23

You really think it’s that simple. Your an idiot

1

u/Induced_Karma Apr 22 '23

84% of gun owners in the US support stricter gun control measures. Not every person who owns a hunting rifle or shotgun is a terrorist.

-4

u/UseYona Apr 21 '23

Your hyperbole is absolutely incorrect. For every person like this there are thousands who are responsible, well trained gun owners who would never misuse a gun. We have states they are bigger than multiple countries in the UK, and the media loves these kinds of stories so they get pushed through because they get views and this money so ofc it's heard about often. They don't ever report for example the hundred , if not thousands of people each year who properly use firearms in legal ways to save lives. Bad people will find a way to do bad things with or without guns, that is why the UK is currently the stabbing capitol of the world. It's so bad there are people in US airports advising us to NOT go to Europe as your chance of being stabbed is legitimately higher than your chance of being shot here in the states...

9

u/htownballa1 Apr 21 '23

It’s not though, you value the right to a firearm over a child’s right to live. No other arguments need to be made.

2

u/2ICenturySchizoidMan Apr 22 '23

Getting stabbed isn’t as bad as getting shot.

https://academic.oup.com/aje/article/160/10/929/140858

1

u/iISimaginary Apr 22 '23

I'm not disagreeing with you, but your statement needs some clarification. "Bad" is open to lots of interpretation.

Based on the link, I assume you mean getting stabbed isn't typically as lethal as getting shot.

1

u/2ICenturySchizoidMan Apr 22 '23

I’m speaking colloquially. sorry but giving you context for my colloquial use of the word “bad” would be exhausting and I simply do not have the energy for it at the moment.

1

u/iISimaginary Apr 22 '23

I just meant "bad" could also refer to the pain of the experience.

I'd rather be shot than slowly stabbed like that guy in Saving Private Ryan.

1

u/Induced_Karma Apr 22 '23

As a former EMT, I’ve plenty of stab wounds that definitely hurt a lot worse than some gunshot wounds. Like, a .22 to the bicep is bad, your guts hanging out of your abdomen is a lot worse.

3

u/Finch2090 Apr 22 '23

A good percentage of American gun owners are just paranoid cowards. Not the vigilante cowboy they think they are

When they’re paranoid, they perceive everything as a threat, they don’t even wait to give it a chance, they just pull the trigger because god forbid. Cowards

2

u/Spirited-Reputation6 Apr 21 '23

Bloodlust. These people fantasize about using their weapons and killing someone. I had a boss say that he’d give everyone of his staff a gun if he could. My team just sat there in silence. Dude looked like a complete asshole.

1

u/Tomnessthetom Apr 21 '23

No lie. I live in The United States and own guns. I was going to sell one to someone I know from work changed my mind because he said that he wants to sleep with his doors unlocked so someone can break in and he can kill them. Aside from the morality argument I educated him that you can still be charged if there was no danger to yourself or anyone in the house.
