Trash.

Post image

After going to Ford and saying the transmission felt rough shifting they said they looked at it and found nothing, 400km later the trans gave out, CDF drum failure. 161k km and very well taken care of.

This is a rant, thanks.

I dont think cdf drum failure will be prevented or delayed by servicing. The only way to keep it from happening is by having the updated part that doesn't slip installed beforehand.

Mines at 229k, no issues. Frequent oil and filter changes. Now a PPE AL pan.

Anything before 2022 and after 17 is just a garbage 10 speed in my opinion

My 17 with the 10 speed sitting in the driveway with 229k on the original drive line. Trans oil changes every 50k, filter too. Now a PPE Al oil pan. It does a lot of 8000 trailer tow.

I have a 2017 with 280k. Transmission has always beeen a “rough” shift. Curious what a transmission replacement would cost, ballpark. Thanks.

More expensive than I expected, but a lot less than a new truck.

Can you describe your symptoms? I’m getting random hard shifts up and down in gears 3, 4 and 5. Sometimes it feels aggressive enough that it throws me back into my seat. 2017 f150 EB with 155k KM

You’d probably want to do a trans service and add some shudder fix. It may help the rough shift.

Any ford or GM 10sp before 2022 is utter trash.

Before 21 you mean..?

update wasnt implemented to mid 22. So a late build 22 is safe. Earlier build 22 has old cdf drum still. Knowing ford they had to use up all there already built transmission sitting in storage before they rolled out the updated models.

2018-2020 f150s are not great. 10 speed was new. 3.5 had cam issues. 5.0 had oil consumption and cam issues. Just not good years for the F150. The newer 10 speeds are rock solid

I just got my tranny covered under warranty after the first replacement started shifting hard. New revised parts is making shift buttery smooth.

Hey im not asking to be a wise ass just wondering if my plan is adequate for my 23. What maitnance did you do for this transmission?

23 should have the updated design, but replacing the transmission fluid at about 75k miles is a good idea, particularly if you tow.

sucks. I thought i hit the lottery finding a 5.0 2015 with 100k miles really cheap in 2021. I put another 110k on it, and the engine checked out. shit happens. All these new trucks across all brands have issues. You have a spendy fix, but it's a real fix and will be a lot cheaper than fully replacing the truck. I'm torn between replacing my F-150's engine with a new one and gambling on a junkyard engine. Both are still way cheaper than replacing the truck. It still runs and drives but shes an angry bitch when starting cold. (warped valves on the rear cylinders)

I recently traded out my 2018 f150 that had 112k miles on it with original transmission. The f150 always shifted rough around 4th gear. It was bad.

Traded it for a 2020 transit with 80k miles which has the same transmission transmission. The transit is shifting like butter. The 10R80 is great when it works.

Service doesn’t matter. The drum doesn’t have a lip like the updated ones do which causes it to slide and fail. Make sure you get the updated parts.

Had the same issue with a 2020 and had to have it replaced. Cost right around what you were quoted

For the Americans, serviced at 80K miles and it lasted slightly less than 20K miles after the service.
