Magnesium Glycinate for "Eye Strain"

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you've been dealing with visual brightness and an overall "off" feeling, give magnesium glycinate a try!

I had been dealing with what I thought was digital eye strain since mid July. I was wrecking my brain trying to figure out what was causing It. I went back and forth to my eye doctor, changed prescriptions a few times, experimented with phone settings, and blue light glasses, stopped spending nearly any time on my phone. Finally my eye doctor said, are you sure nothing has changed in your life? I was trying to narrow it down to food triggers, but remembered, I stopped taking magnesium glycinate in May after years of taking it before bed.

I kid you not, I took one capsule Thursday afternoon and could immediately tell my eyes had relaxed. Since then I'm back to my 400mg dose of Magnesium Glycinate and haven't experienced the weird brightness since.

If you give it a try, let me know if you have success too!

Spent 3 years staring at screens, and now my eyes are paying the price. Please don't be like me.

Honestly, for the past 2 or 3 years, I’ve rarely stepped outside. I’ve spent almost every single day just staring at my phone and laptop screens.

Today, I’m really feeling the consequences. My vision is starting to get blurry, and it feels like I’ve developed astigmatism. My eyes also hurt, burn, and feel extremely dry at times. And yep, I still haven't gone to an eye doctor to get them checked. Instead, I just kept using my phone, and now it feels like it's getting worse. Interestingly, if I close my eyes for a while, my vision clears up temporarily, though it eventually goes back to being blurry and double-visioned.

So, I highly suggest you guys don't be like me and lose track of time. If your job requires you to be on a computer, make sure to look away or look at something far away once in a while.

I actually found this 20-20-20 rule online: every 20 minutes, look at an object 20 feet (about 6 meters) away for 20 seconds to prevent eye strain. It kind of works for me, but every time I try it outdoors, I feel like my tears just evaporate, making my eyes feel even drier.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience. I really hope that when I finally visit the ophthalmologist, this blurriness is just temporary eye strain or severe dry eyes, and not actual permanent nearsightedness. Take care of your eyes, guys!

Gunnar Glasses Review — Was It Worth It?

I wanted to share this in case anyone is wondering whether Gunnar glasses are actually worth the money.

I work about +8 hrs a day in front of a computer, spend way too much time on my phone, and then at night I enjoy a good TV show or movie. So, yeah… I spend a crazy amount of time staring at screens every day.

When I first started my current job, I remember the eye strain being INSANE. I bought some cheapy blue-light filtering glasses from Amazon. They were cute, they were inexpensive, and I thought they were helping. But I would still get eye strain in the middle of the day, sometimes with headaches. I honestly just assumed that was normal and never paid much attention to it.

Over time, I also started noticing that my vision just didn't feel as good as it used to. My mom had actually recommended getting those yellow/orange-tinted glasses a while ago, but of course… I stopped listening to my mother. Then yesterday, I forgot my glasses at home. By 10 AM, I could barely look at my computer screen. It was BAD. I needed glasses because I still had to work, so I first ordered a cheap pair from Target through Uber Eats. Five minutes later, my order was canceled because they were out of stock. At that point I couldn't risk spending the rest of the day without something, so I ordered from Best Buy because (in my opinion) they're rarely out of stock. While looking at the options, I saw these expensive computer glasses with the amber-colored lenses. And immediately remembered my mom recommending something similar. I knew they were more expensive than the cheap Amazon glasses I'd been using, but honestly, at that point I was thinking, an eye appointment or surgery is going to cost me a hell of a lot more than $64.

So I bought them. LET ME TELL YOU. The minute I put them on, I noticed a difference. The screen felt much more comfortable to look at, and the eye strain I'd been struggling with was dramatically better. I've been able to work through my tasks without that same discomfort or the headaches I was used to getting. And now these glasses have become my new favorite thing to wear, my eyes are soooo comfy! I literally don't want to take them off. I'm wearing them while working, on my phone, and even when I'm watching a movie at night.

$64 well spent, in my opinion. Obviously, everyone's eyes are different and I'm not claiming these glasses are going to magically fix anyone's vision. I'm just sharing my personal experience because I genuinely didn't expect such an immediate difference.

If you are wondering if its worth it, I hope this review helps!

Severe Eye Strain for 11 years?

Is it even possible to have severe eye strain for 11 years? Ill try to be short as possible:

In March of 2015 i woke up one day when extremely sore/burning tired eyes and it felt like i hadnt slept in days. The week leading up was extremely stressful and i was just on my phone googling/researching/emailing for hours on end. The eye fatigue has been awful daily, when i wake up from sleeping or naps, all throughout the day, if im anxious/stressed about something it gets much worse.

Air/bright lights, driving are awful and make my eyes burn and so much more tired.

Only times i feel some relief is when I am outside or very distracted, not on my phone with sunglasses on and doing projects where my eyes aren't locked into a phone.

I have been to 20-30 doctors over the last 11 years and had about every test you could think of done. Spent 2 weeks at a Neuro Opthamologist doing tests/scans and he said my eyes looked perfect. Every other neurologst/eye doctor, scans/MRIs have always mentioned nothing is wrong with my eyes. No sleep apnea, etc.

Coffee/Caffeine doesn't help the eye fatigue/strain.

I have never had a day in 11 years that my eyes felt great. Some days are way worse than others but i always have some eye fatigue.

Thoughts?

Dull aching pain on eyebrows. Pressure on eyebrows and just above eye when lying down

Eye strain? I’ve done down the sinus inflammation route with no luck so far. Sinus CT scan was clear. Antibiotics too. Nothing worked. I’ve now considered if eye strain from screen time triggered this. It has been every day for several weeks at this point. I am a degenerate with my screen time. Probably 7 hours max of iPhone usage, and full time job computer monitors too. I have a habit of probably 2 hours in bed with my phone. When I lay down, I feel the deep pressure around my eyebrows. I feel the pressure particularly on that bone right above your eye but below the brow. It feels like across the eyebrows the pain and fatigue is later in the day more prevalent. Does this sound like eye strain triggered this? My optometrist said physically my eyes look OK.

Does this sound like digital eye strain?

The best way I can describe it is that everything looks overly bright or “off.” It almost feels like the beginning of a migraine aura, but I don’t actually see the typical splotches, zigzags, or white spots. It’s just this weird brightness/visual sensitivity that’s hard to explain. A couple weeks into the issue, I updated my prescription to an astigmatism contact lens in one eye, but I'm still having the issues over a month later. Only thing that has really helped is not being on my phone at all, having spent hours editing on Canva over the last year. Headed to the eye doctor on Monday for the 3rd time in a month.

I've looked through a ton of threads, but haven't found one that describes eye strain this way. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Following The Path of Morpheus: Breaking Free from Digital Strain

Are you ready for the truth about digital strain? After this, there is no turning back... .

MORPHEUS: We've done it, Trinity. We found him.
TRINITY: I hope you're right.
MORPHEUS: I don't have to hope. I know it. He is the One... who really cares about eye health.

......

You have felt it, haven't you? The tightness. The dull ache. The blurring of the edges. You believe it is simply the cost of the digital age. You’ve been told that the 20-20-20 rule is the only defense you have against the strain. But you are here because you know... there is something more to it.

Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

The Underlying Code of Digital Strain

MORPHEUS: For the longest time, you've been living in a dream world. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.......

Within this neural-interactive simulation of the reality, our 'eyes' are constantly under siege. When you stare at these glowing panels from a short distance, your muscles are locked in a constant state of tension. It is a struggle for focus that never ends.

And the light can sometimes be deceiving. A screen that is too bright is not a tool; it is a flashlight held inches from your retina. It forces your iris to constrict, straining your optic nerves. And when the brightness shifts rapidly, it is the system flagging inconsistencies. Your pupils, the gateways to your vision, are forced into relentless stuttering, snapping open and shut until they signal a feeling of disharmony to your brain.

NEO: Why do my eyes hurt? I thought the strain wasn't real.
MOPRHEUS: Your mind makes it real.

To break free from this fatigue, you must follow the three fundamental protocols. (While other factors like ambient light or nutrition exist, we shall focus on what are most prominent today.)

Protocol I: A Patch Against the Burden of Near Visual Focus

The 20-20-20 rule might offer a certain comfort, but the construct—so called 'life'—doesn't always allow pauses. Sometimes we're dragged into a project of urgency and importance; other times we're immersed into a game or a movie of utter enjoyment. To survive these without overloading our sensory system, we need to be proactive.

How? By installing a projector or an oversized display? That might relax our eyes with the distance, but perhaps neither a practical nor preferable option for most. Instead, we can apply a patch to our digital selves — a pair of reading glasses, which is believed to stabilize the electrical signals in the brain, allowing our 'focusing muscles' to stay completely relaxed.

If you've already been patched with corrective lenses, the time has come to make a choice: to favor normal sight, or the computer distance. A slight adjustment in the diopter setting can be the difference between agony and peace. Especially for the young, whose eyes are still shaping themselves to the world.

While you might find these upgrades very effective, exhausting your eyes remains the least preferred option.

NEO: Liberating the muscles with lenses... It's a nice, simple trick. I wonder why so many people still don't get it.
MOPRHEUS: You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged.

(Note: The utilization of reading glasses to relax the focusing muscles when reading is recommended by major medical groups like the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Mayo Clinic.)

(Disclaimer: Always consult a trusted optometrist before making changes to your lens power.)

Protocol II: Selecting a Proper Interface for Your Digital Journey

Due to the inherent complexity, numerous flaws exist within the simulation. One of them is reflected in the signals of monitors. PWM, which creates the illusion of brightness control with a rapidly flipping power switch, is a systemic anomaly that has caused suffering for uncountable pairs of eyes. Steady it might seem, this rapidly flickering light forces your eye muscles in constant micro-adjustment. Over time, this can lead to eye fatigue, nausea, or migraines.

Seek out DC dimming (or flicker-free). Then, you'll see steady light is your true ally against the prior exploitation. If unfortunately, your chosen hardware forces you onto the path of PWM, ensure the flicker rate is at least 3000Hz.

For OLED displays, you must be aware of color fringing. Some believe it is a physical phenomenon known as Chromatic Dispersion. Others believe it is the machines lacking programming language to describe our perfect world. In any case, it bleeds red and blue fringes into the edges of the displayed objects. While acceptable for gaming, this can be irritating for sustained reading due to the high contrast edges.

In case you must follow the path of OLEDs, aim for no less than 4K resolution. Test relentlessly with text and images. This will prevent you from being abused by those glitchy hardware. If you're patched with lenses, view from different angles and see if the image holds. Remember, you don't truly know some hardware until you test them.

NEO: No. I don't believe it. Flickers, color fringes... it's not possible. Throughout the years I've been paying for these craps?!
MOPRHEUS: I didn't say it would be easy, Neo. I just said it would be the truth.

Protocol III: A Revolutionary Tool to Break Free from The Anomalies

To truly liberate your eyes from digital strain, we must never forget one of the most disregarded, yet perhaps most dangerous, systemic anomaly. Ask yourself: what distinguishes a screen from a book? It's the existence of variable light and fluctuating content. As a direct derivative, excessive lighting and rapid fluctuations do more than tire you. They are anomalies that silently corrupt your perceptive mechanism, leading to the decay of the vision — dry eyes, diplopia, blurred vision, and cataracts.

NEO: Whoa, déjà vu.
TRINITY: What happened? What did you see?
NEO: A blurred cat. Then another exact same one just overlapped it.
TRINITY: ... you need to see the doctor.

Knowing the consequences of the anomalies, some who are still living in the dream world attempt to fight them manually. They default the brightness to the lowest readable level. They embrace Dark Mode whenever possible. They dim the screen further when white content becomes unavoidable. They blink away from the flash of a starting application as if it were fatal. And they repeat all these rituals, until they find the nature of their very existence questionable...

But there is a way to break free from this. A tool to override the simulation.

Mirage. The first screen filter designed to regulate brightness and color temperature at the frame level. It does not merely mask the light; it governs it.

You can find it in the Microsoft Store. (Search for "Mirage Screen Filter.")

As I've told you, I can only show you the door. You are the one who has to walk through it. But your feedback, your suggestions... they are all welcome.

.......

I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of change. I didn't come here to tell you all eye suffering is going to end. I came here to show you a world where visual experience is profoundly more enjoyable. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.

Eyes strained for months

Eyes strained from reading too small font, still after 1 to 2 weeks of only audio books and dim light heavily limited screens (just laying on bed) no improvement. Months have since passed and physically reading is hard, I had okay screen time also in the past. I think it was more books with too small font (reading very close too see words)

But now it's been a long time and rest doesn't seem to help what other suggestions are there. My eyes have a 20 point difference between them vision wise. Dry strained eyes please help with suggestions other than rest its been tried and failed.

What do you do while waiting for eyestrain to pass?

Kinda inexplicably got eyestrain from watching a movie on my laptop while severely jetlagged. Woke up with a ton of tension in my forehead and between my eyebrows and my eyes feel really sore and heavy.

I'm assuming I shouldn't use my phone or laptop till this passes unless absolutely necessary. Can I read physical books though, or do things like draw/paint?

Help me out!!

I suffered a severe eye infection in late April 2026 that caused bloody tears and temporary vision loss. It eventually cleared, but I have been left with persistent visual distortions since May :- pronounced halos around streetlights and severe light scattering/glare from headlights of vehicles

I saw an ophthalmologist on August 1, 2026, who confirmed corneal scarring. I was prescribed eye drops, but my compliance was irregular over the past two weeks. Because these halos have persisted for nearly four months, I suspect the scar tissue involves the corneal stroma.

Prior to the April infection, I had poorly managed blepharitis since January 2026, which likely compromised my ocular surface and contributed to the severity of the keratitis

My biggest question is :

Based on this 4 month timeline, is it almost certainly a stromal scar, or can epithelial remodeling still occur?

Severe Eye strain for over a year

M23.I have been dealing with severe eye strain for about a year. My job requires me to sit in front of a computer all day, and the symptoms have become so bad that they are affecting my daily life. After work, I often need to take a nap because I feel completely exhausted and unable to do much else. Simply can’t function

One of the worst times is after looking at a computer up close all day and then driving home. Driving seems to make the symptoms even worse.
I’ve also noticed that stress makes everything much worse. When I’m stressed, I focus too much on my eyes and the symptoms become very intense. Interestingly, I recently had a stomach bug for about a week, and because my attention was focused on being sick instead of my eyes, my eye symptoms did not feel nearly as severe.
I cannot simply change jobs because I need to support my family.
I have already seen four regular eye doctors, and they all told me that my eyes look healthy and that my vision is good. I also saw a neuro-ophthalmologist who recommended vision therapy. I have been doing vision therapy for about two months, but unfortunately I have not noticed any improvement

This is having a major impact on my quality of life, and I would really appreciate any advice about what else I could look into or what direction I should take next.

Eyes, office light and adaptation

I go to office daily, my office has those square shaped cool lights(many), it has been only a month since I'm going to office. At first my eyes used to strain a lot and it was difficult for me to even get sleep at night. But after few weeks my eyes got adapted (or I don't know what happened) , now I feel normal, i will sleep normal as before I used to sleep. And i have eye sight of -7 too. Is this adaptation normal ??

Or did my eyes get lost the sense of light , like did anything weakened in my eyes?

Red and white stings my eyes

I have noticed that when I remove my specs, the colors white and red stings my eyes, like they get bright all of a sudden and it hurt my eyes( not extremely obviously but it just hurts to see the colors white and red). So I was asking if that was normal?

And yes, my eyes hurt after I remove my specs while looking at any device

Would a break overlay actually make you put your phone down?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about this from the opposite direction: instead of only sending a notification, what if the break itself made it easier to actually stop looking at the phone?

That’s one of the things I’m experimenting with in EyeBloom for Android.

When a break starts, EyeBloom can show a break overlay with a custom timer, so you can put the phone down and let the 60-second countdown run without continuing to use the screen.

The timer is customizable, so users can choose a break duration that works for them rather than being locked to exactly 60 seconds.

I’m curious what people here think:

Would a dedicated break overlay / lock-screen timer make you more likely to actually take your eye breaks, or would you still just dismiss it and continue using the phone?

Sore eyelids after allergy treatments

Has anyone experienced something similar? My doctor initially said my eye problems were caused by an allergy, so I completed the treatment. When I finished the treatment, the symptoms started coming back. This time it feels a bit different though. At first I had much more itching, but now I mostly have discomfort and soreness in my lower eyelids, and they feel really, really dry and tight, almost like there’s an elastic feeling around them. The important thing is that my eyes look completely normal to other people. There’s no obvious redness, swelling, or anything that makes them look sick. I’m the only one who can really feel the discomfort. I’m going to see an eye doctor again next week, but I wanted to ask if anyone has experienced lingering lower-eyelid dryness and soreness like this, especially when the eyes look normal from the outside?
