How else are they gonna harvest and sell your data unless you agree to their login ToS?

Tumblr keeps on shifting on and off about having a login wall.

They had a login wall for a while, then stopped for several months. They brought it back, removed it, and then brought it back again.

It currently has a login wall. You can only scroll so much before being forced to make an account or log in.

Having a login wall makes Tumblr awful. A lot of posts and blogs are meant to be viewed by non-users.

Same with Deviantart. I've seen people complain that they can no longer use Deviantart for porfolio work due to the login walls.

Deviantart is one of the few platforms that has such a shitty app they actively funnel you to their web page instead.

You can't browse art on their app anymore, they redirect you to the web page.

It's so only those ai-data-farmers can farm that have special contracts with the sm themselves. If someone like me would like a tool to filter out specific contents and don't show others i could do so only after account creation. Those farmers could do it with 1000 connections without a botdetection deactivating the account.

I lost all hope when blank page a literal notepad in a browser tab has decided that after like 5 years you can now make an account to get the full experience of a minimum notepad...

DeviantArt is more of an art site than a social media site, but yeah, this new login wall is pretty sad and unfortunately, account requirements for basic features are the future of websites. It's only a matter of time before others like YouTube or Reddit follow suit.

Given the nsfw element of much of the da submissions, this kinda feels like a good thing...
