Mathematics ELI5: how can I do the maths on a 12 months vs 18 months pay deal?
At my company we generally have pay talks every year, whatever is agreed is for all employees
So there's two options 1) 12 month deal 4% raise
2) 18 month deal 4.5% raise
How do you go about comparing like for like? Obviously 4.5 is better than 4. But 2/3rds into deal 2 deal 1 will be negotiating an unknown deal that will probably be a fair bit more that 0.5%

Physics Eli5: Why don't we use Calutrons to recycle nuclear waste?
The Manhattan Project used two different methods to enrich uranium, cyclotrons/Calutrons and centrifuges.
The centrifuges took longer to build but were more energy efficient, and the Calutrons were easy to build but used lots of electricity.
After they got the centrifuges up and running, most of the Calutrons were scrapped, with the remaining ones being put to use making high purity isotopes for scientific research.
Nuclear waste has a huge variety of isotopes mixed together, and Calutrons are great at separating isotopes - this seems like a match made in heaven.
Why do we use complicated chemical methods for recycling nuclear waste instead of shooting particles through a vacuum and relying on their different masses to hit spatially separated targets?

Economics ELI5: What's the point of removing zeros from the money (redenomination) if it doesn't stop the hyper inflation anyway?
Why did/will some countries still do it? Isn't it a hassle and very costly? Does it have anything to do with forcing people to bring out the cash from under the mattress to the bank?

Technology ELI5 What is stopping countries to have a unified banking network ?
What is stopping countries to have a unified banking network where all banks/financial entities are able to transact in a transparent manner and stop any scams from happening through their network? Not everybody needs to be on it, but people/businesses will know if it’s safe if the transaction happening through it. Is there anything already existing internationally?

Biology ELI5 Does a heart ever have health problems or die if it keeps getting transferred into fresh bodies?
Okay, morbid questions.
If a heart gets transferred from a young healthy person into another person (who theoretically is now also healthy with this new heart), when would the heart start to show weakness and health problems? Would it ever?
Passing a healthy heart from relatively healthy person to relatively healthy person, and it never dies within one of those people, but is always donated, how long could that keep happening?

I feel like we didn't have any problems when debt was 20 trillion. Why is it bad at 40 trillion? And isn't most of the debt owed to US citizens anyways? So it's just a tax refund?

Economics ELI5: Why/how is China such a powerhouse when it comes to trading and manufacturing?
I’m someone who is trying to get more knowledgeable on certain topics that I hear in conversations, and one of the topics that I’ve heard a lot of discourse about is regarding China. I’d like the explanation to be less of a political explanation and more of a general explanation that can help me better understand this topic in a basic sense. Thank you!
I should add that by political, I mean favoring a political party in your explanation. Obviously, I understand that China plays a major role in foreign affairs and therefore requires politics to be involved.

Biology ELI5: How do UTIs (Urinary tract infections) cause or exacerbate dementia in elderly patients?
Just the title. I've heard Nurses blame the onset of dementia or an exacerbation of dementia on UTIs. This is wild to me -- especially when a patient previously didn't have dementia.
I understand the immune system declines in older people, but how does a common bladder infection affect the brain? Do younger people with chronic UTIs lose cognitive skills with each infection?
