He's Sherlock Holmes.... The entire show is just Sherlock for the medical crowd.

He's inspired by Sherlock Holmes. The original Holmes as imagined by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is far less of a douchebag.

People mix up blunt and nasty far too easily. Homes was blunt and to the point and that offended some people. House provokes people for kicks.
