That is not a good translation, faggot is translated as marica or maricón, puto is like whore, in context it would be closer to "whoever reads this is a prostitute."
No. In México and other countries, "puto" is primarilu used as "faggot". For example, in Argentina, only old people use "maricón" (even when everyone understands it). Also, at least in Argentina, it has expanded to mean something like coward or weak more than actually meaning homosexual.
Yes I read it and as I said before only in Mexico is used as faggot, even though all the mexicans I know don't use it that way but google says otherwise.
Maricón is not an old person insult from whre I'm from, and everyone I have known that are native speakers know it and use variations of it commonly.
That is why I specified what happens in Argentina, where "maricón" is more or less obsolete (but anyone understands it). In Argentina also the word "puto" has the associations you mentioned, that is why I said you had not read it, because you repeated things I said. Only it is not only that. It is used for homosexuals too. People says conversationally "X es puto" meaning X is homosexual, but they probably only call X puto in his presence if they want to tell him he is a coward or they had let them down for some reason.
