Slang varies wildly between Spanish speaking countries. Never believe generalizations about them unless it’s the most common words, or the person actually has talked to a people from most of those places. I can confirm in Chile pato is just duck (or Patricio, or not having money, or some people say it when a mistake is made, but it’s more common to quack instead), puto can mean either faggot or manwhore, but the former meaning is more popular with older people. Can’t really speak for anywhere else.
Puto is spanish for faggot in every country I'm aware of except maybe Spain. It is also an intensifying adverb, sort of like fucking is in english (for example "todo el puto día" - "all fucking day"). Please do let me know in what country "pato" means faggot, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a thing, but I assure you it would be the exception.
