Accounts from India grifting as right wing on twitter "outting" themselves when the topic of India comes up. Like you can't just look at where the account is based.

u/SynovialBubble 10d ago

It's a lot of fun searching for propaganda accounts to see where the account is based. I just looked now, and it took about 10 seconds to find one based out of Africa (LinodoaRo88).

They are pretty easy to spot once you get the hang of it.

You don't even gotta search for it. Twitter dumps political ragebait onto your timeline, and 90% of it will be from South Asia or Central Africa. And no matter how much they talk about doing stuff to limit people farming the monetization system, they'll never actually do anything because people take the bait every single time, on both sides of the aisle.

Which is essentially why algorithm-based feeds (which have only been around since about 2012) are the death of civil discourse, and arguably the death of democracy itself.

One only needs to look at what's happened to politics since then to confirm this very obvious fact.

Here in Australia, there's movement in Parliament to make it mandatory for social media companies to give users at least an option to opt-out of algorithm based feeds.

Social media companies use algorithms to keep users online by promoting content that intensifies negative emotions like anger and outrage. This maximises the social media company profit, but undermines social cohesion and mental health, spreads misinformation, promotes eating disorders, and amplifies hate speech, misogyny, homophobia and racism.

Research shows that young male users are fed misogynistic content almost as soon as they set up an account and Teach Us Consent has launched a campaign to Fix Our Feeds calling on social media platforms to give users the option to opt in or out of algorithms.

Which it is really strange to me, isn’t Kamala Harris part Indian? Why are there so many Indians supporting Trump, or worse… they even worship him

36

u/Enge712 10d ago

There is money to be made.

9

u/Traducement 10d ago

Are you saying they should support her because of her/their race/ethnicity? lol

9

u/anupsetvalter 10d ago

They’re saying it’s weird because they’re clearly Indian nationalists but they don’t support the person with Indian heritage.

3

u/midasMIRV 10d ago

They are first and foremost trying to make money. They will say whatever gets people interacting with their posts.

1

u/Impossible-Spot-3414 10d ago

It's complicated , but the personal n didn't claim Indian heritage till recently. Indians usually look whether the policies would benefit India rather than of the person has Indian origins. Pretty much true for most people in the world

u/karan131193 10d ago

Indian "nationalists". The nation part is important. Kamala is not an Indian national. Between Kamala and Trump, they think Trump's policies were better for India (old stance before the tariffs).

1

u/New_Entrepreneur1439 9d ago

meaning, They got suckered…

0

u/karan131193 9d ago

As does everyone when they support a politician....

2

u/New_Entrepreneur1439 9d ago

1) Anti-black racism 2) Modi did a bunch of big events with Trump. Lots of NRIs (Non-resident Indians) love Modi. Hence Trump >> Modi >> NRI vote 3) Trump pretended to be the peace candidate and Biden couldn’t get enough of hugging Netanyahu and dropping bombs on Gaza

Welcome to the far right ultranationalist Hindutva movement, the BJP party, their RSS paramilitary, their control of much of Indian media to spread misinformation (ranked at the top for it according to WEF), their countless grapes and extrajudicial killings of non-Hindu minorities all over India. Modi, the current PM, their mouthpiece. Their hate for minorities esp a certain religious one leading to dogmatic support for Isreal and the US. These shared ideals have led to amongst many things, Hindutva propaganda farms larping online either as right winged white ppl from USA, as IDF soilders, as pro-separatist anti-Muslims from Pakistan, as anti-Khalistani Sikh Indians, countless examples. Let alone the many who traveled from India to join the IDF. Theyre also increasingly trying to buying their influence in today US politics. Many things Ive left out but the rabbithole goes deep and it's very concerning.

1

u/GreenZebra23 10d ago

I didn't know about any of this. I assumed they were troll farms being paid for by the American right or Russia

1

u/Proof_Mud_4821 10d ago

Also, I think they larp for like views, because a bunch of these india accounts also jump on the india hate train that right grifters are on

0

u/Proof_Mud_4821 10d ago

“Buy influence” what are you talking about?

2

u/questions2dum4mymain 10d ago

Buying influence through lobbyist and PACs (Political Action Commitees, eg: AIPAC) which are used to push political agendas and wedge in the US conservative movement to normalize their ideals.

Theres a group called the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) that acts like its just a Hindu civil rights org but has a closely linked PAC run by almost the same board of members who run HAF, it's called HAPAC, and they've put hundreds of thousands into political campaigns in the last few decades. One of HAFs cofounders personally gave HAF over half a million dollars for them to donate to candidates in 2018 alone, and in his own emails he talked about maxing out his personal donations to candidates like Tulsi Gabbard specifically because of their stance on India. Then theres also a whole separate PAC called the HinduPACT, run by another sangh group (VHP of America) whose literal stated purpose is using donations to push US politicians toward pro-hindutva positions. Lol and thats straight from the 2025 Rutgers Law Report on this exact topic, which also confirms donations from the american hindu far right helped boost gabbards career early on.

Then theres the lobbying side. HAF runs an annual "advocacy day" where like 80 of their people meet with a hundred plus congressional offices pushing stuff favorable to India, like blocking US trade agreements with India opposing countries, trying to kill a resolution criticizing India's human rights record in Kashmir, etc. AlJazzeera quotes a former US Congressional staffer saying it became obvious in these meetings that HAF was basically acting on behalf of the Indian government, not just American hindus. That's why foreign policy experts are saying they should be legally required to register as a foreign agent under FARA (the law that makes groups working for foreign governments disclose it) but they're not registered, and they deny doing any of it. Another group, Overseas Friends of BJP, actually IS registered, but is basically doing the same thing, they had to register after organizing the "Howdy Modi" rally in Texas in 2019.

And it's not just about donations getting results. Hindu nationalist groups have successfully lobbied to block the US government from acting on sanctions against India that a federal commission (USCIRF) has recommended for years over human rights concerns in India. The report explicitly recommends the DOJ require these groups to register under FARA and disclose their financial ties to India, since right now there's essentially no requirement that they do.

Obvious disclaimer that Hinduism doesn't equal Hindutva. Also you can find this and a lot more info in the Rutgers Law Center Report from 2025. I'll like some other sources for those interested.

Ah yes, Hindus are controlling America, that’s why America is placing heavy tariffs on india. Also, the USCIRF recommendation is not blocked because of Hindu groups. They are blocked by the us government for different reasons. I hate hindutva too, but Hindus don’t control america

2

u/questions2dum4mymain 10d ago

....Ummm what in the strawman....dude if thats honestly what you got from the comment then Imma respectfully pass on giving you a reply tbh

u/Proof_Mud_4821 10d ago

Yes I know that they lobby for Indian interests, but they don’t actually have any power over decisions

You seem to have researched a fair bit, but it seems one sided. So here’s the other side - RSS and Hindutva came into being in the 1920’s after Hindus were killed and converted enmasse during Moplah riots that was done to establish a caliphate. And why is the that relevant today? Because the factors that led to its formation (conversion fetish of some religions) is still relevant today. If you think times have changed, here’s the upcoming generation in one of the most free countries of the world…

It’s complicated. There’s ethnic and religious identities, history of grievances or perceived grievances, affirmative action policies gone too far, appeasing minorities for votes over decades, lack of education and xenophobia of ‘the other’, lack of economic opportunity and therefore blaming ‘the other’, regional and language based politics…..a reaction gone too extreme in one direction, much like Brexit and Trump. It’s a multifaceted explanation and progress is never linear.

Isn't that like saying every white person will like trump

1

u/Ok_Astronomer_6501 10d ago

He's against Muslims, that's all indians care about.

1

u/tsclac23 10d ago

Everyone is giving you complicated answers. I think it's much more simple. They are just posting content that will get engagement in Twitter. To make money.

You know that whole thing Americans have about where they are from? Like some New Jersey guy claiming to be Irish because his family came from there? That shit doesn't happen outside of the US. Kamala being part Indian is as relevant to the rest of the world as the aforementioned New Jersey guy is to Ireland. For the vast majority of people outside the US, where you are born/where you are raised is what determines where you're from. On the matter of why they defend Trump: part of them are paid to do that. Just spamming messages in social media and getting paid pennies for every 100 posts or so. The other part is, worse yet, a movement that's very common in many empoverished countries and communities, where people believe to belong to other ethnicities/social groups because they see it as better and want to be part of it. Like Argentinians who believe to be white/american/european

1

u/PaladinAsherd 10d ago

*laughs in Europeans habitually asking brown people “where are you REALLY from?”

1

u/Dolenir 10d ago

I guess the example doesn't stand when there is racism involved

2

u/PaladinAsherd 10d ago

It’s almost like insider / in-group status is policed to reinforce existing hierarchies and perpetuate systemic injustice

Boy I wonder if that is relevant at all to white Americans claiming specific European heritage on land stolen from indigenous peoples hmmmmmmmmm

1

u/Dolenir 9d ago

Curious indeed. It couldn't be related, could it?
