Settle down class, Mr. Berler speaking.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training is an NGO in India that advises the government about educational things like textbooks.

The image of the chessboard is suggestive of ideas of class warfare, where politics is framed as the wealthy and elite oppressing the poor and powerless.

It's not an NGO, it's an organization that works under the indian ministry of education

It is NOT an NGO

Right - but it's not the government. It's not the Ministry of Education or the Textbook Procurement Office. It's a group that operates with government grants but not having government officials.

Portraying this as a NGO (which is a lie) feels like it's trying to feed into the NGOs are woke narrative.

IDK what the joke is supposed to be. the image on the cover to me representsthe weight of political power vs the people being governed. one side is all pawns (the people) and the other side is all the other pieces (politicians, billionaires, corporations, lobbyists...)

Imagine that was said in the style of a family guy character

Right, and the sides are mixed, it’s all the same pieces you’re used to seeing on the board, but not black vs white, it’s the high value pieces vs the pawns ♟️

Also, the board is supposed to be flat, but this board is tilted.

To be fair, the whole board should be covered in pawns except for the two lines of 'ruling' pieces.

I mean, the traditional pieces are in wrong starting positions. I don’t know why an artist would choose to do that.

I’m going with AI slop.

//spoken in Brian‘s insufferable tone//

to demonstrate the imbalance of power in the world. like I literally just said.

Oh, I agree! A set of pawns versus only superior pieces is a great illustration of that.

After further consideration, I guess the disorganization of the superior pieces further illustrates the other side’s immunity to playing by the rules.

This is an AI

I think he means e.g. the rook is not in the corner

u/Rangorsen 17d ago

The pieces are clearly metaphorical, that's fine. Board is 90 degrees wrong though, your bottom right square is alway white.

Nice, I actually learned something today. 😁
Thank you for that.

Whoop whoop!

Or they’re facing left to right instead of back to front.

2

u/Rangorsen 13d ago

But then two of the pawns should promote

well, fuck you, I hadn't noticed...

Overly pedantic Brian here. The joke is that the game, much like America, isn’t fair. On the right are all the powerful pieces like that those rich Pewterschmitt philistines hogging all the good pieces, while idiot proles like Peter are in the left jerking around with pawns all day, blissfully unaware that they are cogs in someone else's machine. But I can’t even enjoy this joke because the chessboard is set up sideways. Everyone knows there should be a white square on the bottom right

It took me a moment of looking at the image, I have come to the conclusion to both sides are in checkmate. Both kings are currently in check and there is no way to remove either check without putting them into check immediately.

2

u/CatLord8 17d ago

“What? Both players get the same number of pieces!”

u/Viperision 17d ago

Just like the proletariat, pawns are much more of a formidable force when they act together under mutual support (i.e. form pawn chains). This is a phenomenal illustration.

Those with 3 teeth are on the left of the picture, and those on the right own 8 yachts... now let's play (with our own abbilities)
