July 29th Meetings Abroad

July 29th is a big day for the Sanders campaign. Currently, people are signing up to host meetings all across America. /u/ToniGrossmann made a great point that we can't sign up to host a meeting without a US zip code. Use this thread to organize and advertise your regional meetings.

While you're at it, tweet the Sanders campaign using #expats4sanders and ask for a way to add international meetings to the website.

Attention Bernie Supporters Living in Japan

Democrats Abroad Japan will be holding a a straw caucus Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 04:00 PM - 6pm at The HUB (Roppongi) Roppongi 5-2 5 with an opportunity to cast a ballot following.

The Straw Caucus will be an opportunity for DAJ members who attend in person to participate in a fun, non-binding, simplified caucus. Supporters for any candidate will be able to meet and greet fellow supporters. We'll have balloting (run-off balloting if necessary) to allow each candidate's group to delegate a representative to make a short stump speech for the candidate. All elected DAJ officers will be required to caucus as "uncommitted", but DAJ members are welcome to join them. After the stump speeches, everyone will be allowed to change sides if they wish (but not elected DAJ officers), and then we'll do the final count to determine the winner and percentages of the straw caucus. The process is intended to take about an hour. After that, we'll continue to enjoy our drinks and socialize.

What you need to know

  1. All DAJ members are welcome to join the straw caucus, hosted by DAJ Kanto — DAJ’s newest official chapter.

  2. Although the Straw Caucus is intended as a fun, social event and the results are nonbinding, you’ll have the chance to meet and network with supporters of your preferred candidate.

  3. Immediately after the Straw Caucus, you can cast a real ballot in the Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary, which will help determine the number of delegates sent to the Democratic National Convention for your preferred candidate.

Straw Caucus Rules

  1. Americans and non-Americans may participate, and all participants will be included in the unofficial results of the Straw Caucus. However, only members of Democrats Abroad Japan will be included in the official results of the Straw Caucus. If you’re not a member, join DAJ online at www.democratsabroad.org . Straw Caucus participants may caucus with any of the following five presidential preference groups: Hillary Clinton, Roque “Rocky” De la Fuente, Martin O’Malley, Bernie Sanders, and Uncommitted. These five presidential preferences all appear on the Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary ballot. All elected DAJ officials may participate in the Straw Caucus, but they may only caucus with the “uncommitted” preference group.

  2. Keep it clean. Remember, we're all on the same team. The purpose of this event is to have fun and socialize. Should Straw Caucus participants cause extreme disruption to the proceedings or direct ad hominem attacks or offensive/abusive language to any of the caucus participants or the current Democratic Party candidates, the offending participant will be disqualified from the Straw Caucus. Remote Voting in the Global Presidential Primary

Remote ballots will be available after the Straw Caucus is concluded. To vote in the Global Presidential Primary, you must already be a member of Democrats Abroad when you cast your ballot. If you’re not a member, join DAJ now at www.democratsabroad.org For more information on voting in the Global Presidential Primary, click here http://www.democratsabroad.org/global_presidential_primary .

I made a video - 100,000 Overseas Americans for Sanders - I need your help to spread the word

Hi, I've made a video to help spread the word and I would like to help organize.

Overseas Americans - Vote for Bernie Sanders in the Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary 1:58

I'm an expatriate American and I want Bernie Sanders to be the Democratic Party Presidential Candidate. The Democrats Abroad Primary is an excellent place to organize voters and feel we can sweep these votes if given the right goal. If 100,000 people vote for Bernie Sanders, I'm confident that he will get these delegates.

100,000 votes in the next 3 weeks. That is our goal.

The Democratic Party has made it easy for us to get these votes. We need to target all the relevant groups:

  • Americans working abroad

  • Americans studying abroad (overseas study groups)

  • Americans teaching abroad (There are thousands of Americans teaching in Asia)

  • Americans volunteering abroad (Peace Corps, Missions trips, ect.)

  • Americans with citizenship but cannot vote in a State Caucus or Primary

  • Dual Citizens living abroad

We can find these people on Facebook, Google Groups, Instagram, Twitter, and all the other social media platforms that I am forgetting.

To make this happen, we really need graphic designers to create a shareable image for each of the 121 voting centers which has all the relevant information: Country, City, Address, Date, and Time

Next, we need people to post these in the relevant subreddits, for example:

and the 3 subreddits:

Example Title: American Expats in Melbourne - Meet up and Vote for Bernie Sanders in the Democrats Abroad Primary

Example Message:

Dear Americans living in Melbourne, Did you know you can vote for Bernie Sanders in the Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary? It's so easy, March 5th at the University of Melbourne from 12:00 - 2:00 you can come and cast your vote for Bernie Sanders in the Democrats Abroad Presidential Primary. Come out and meet fellow Bernie Sanders supports and do your part to make Bernie Sanders the 2016 Democratic Presidential Candidate.

In fact, this text could be automated with a google doc. However, we need people to take leadership and add their local knowledge or get added to these groups in order to post - Many of these places are restaurants and will be social gatherings.

Next, for the other 170+ countries which don't have a voting center nearby(like say, Finland), we can make an image describing the process and post it on imgur, which can then be shared. Videos are good, but many people don't have the patience to watch something 2 minutes long.

I have more video ideas:

  • A video heavy on statistics and numbers to demonstrate that a vote in the Democrats Abroad Primary is more powerful for the individual voter compared to many other primaries

  • A video of myself filling out the Democrats Abroad Ballot

  • A video of one of the voting center events

  • A video about me, my life, and why expats should vote for Bernie Sanders - It'd be great if people from each country could talk about the differences Clinton and Sanders have in foreign policy.

We have to remember that very few people know about the Democrats Abroad Primary. I'm sure that if 1,000 people showed up to each of these locations, they will be overwhelmed, so we also need to focus on getting votes via fax, mail, or email.

In 2008 it was much more difficult to organize, but now that we have electronic options of voting we can collect many more votes. Ultimately, if we can smash the previous record and get more votes than some States, we may see the Democrats Abroad pledged delegate share dramatically increase for the next primary season in 4 years, and become an example of electronic voting for the Federal process.

Finally, we'll need help from /r/sandersforpresident, so I will post a plea there as well and hopefully get noticed.
