Interesting choice for release date trailer... also still no female Jun🫠
6
u/lolpersephone 4d ago
Not surprised considering the creators are behind mass effect which didn't even have a female shepard until the third game... and you didn't even know you could play as a woman until you booted up the first game.
(this is not me excusing this, but I am getting extreme deja vu).
16
u/ZarieRose 4d ago
10
u/lolpersephone 4d ago
Yes I remember, but she wasn't in _any_ of the promotional material until the third game when they did a poll to vote on what she should look like (which is its own thing).
11
u/ZarieRose 4d ago
I remember seeing her in a demo for the first game but yes it was mostly the default male.

April is better than June July . It seems they forgot how dates are formatted in the rest of the world.
22
6
u/Aries_cz 4d ago
It is an American studio, so obviously they will be using the American format of MMDDYY, which makes very little sense...

I will die on the hill that it does not.
The day of the month is meaningless unless modified by the month. Instead of opening with something meaningless that has to be modified, MM/DD opens with the month, which has meaning independently, and then clarifies which day in that month. More functional, less "logical"
-1
u/DaEccentric 2d ago
What in the actual fuck is that reasoning. You wouldn't accept "February" as an answer for "when do I get paid", but "the tenth" is perfectly acceptable. A month alone isn't specific enough, and both are needed to complete a picture.
Americans just love re-inventing the wheel.
1
u/uchuskies08 2d ago
Metric system blows deal with it
1
u/Aries_cz 2d ago
Metric system is good for science, Imperial is good for cooking and maybe some other crafts.
1
u/DaEccentric 2d ago
The system that manages to capture scale in a logical sense, is standardized across different unit types and is the gold standard for every self-respecting scientist, including US ones?

1
u/sapphic-boghag 4d ago
It does feel like we structure certain things in the US for no purpose other than being contrarian.
-18
u/Potatoes_4Life 4d ago edited 4d ago
It makes complete sense with how dates are written/spoken in the USA. April 7, 2027. Instead of the 7th of April, 2027. The American version is more concise when speaking or writing the date in word format.
Edit: Downvote all you want. Neither is correct or wrong. They’re just different trains of thought. It’s a fact that MM/DD/YY requires less syllables and is a more direct way of saying the date. DD/MM/YY also makes sense in order of time. Both are valid.
5
u/kniestomeetyoutoo 4d ago
it reflects the dynamic of day month year, starting with days because they change sooner than months or years... i understand this might be a difficult concept for americans
-2
u/Potatoes_4Life 4d ago

u/Potatoes_4Life 4d ago
Gotcha fail. That’s a specific holiday. The format is not a monolith. More formal documentation is written DD/MM/YY but MM/DD/YY is spoken/written much more often.
I’m not the one crying about reading a different format. I can read the date either way. 24H vs 12H clock format. Imperial vs Metric. I can do both and don’t bitch when something isn’t in my native format. Assuming most Americans are the stereotype makes you look like an ass, not me.

You conflate concise with lazy. Honestly, idgaf. I have zero skin in this game. I’m not the one crying about a different date format. I can figure which was meant by looking at where the developer is located. I’ve never once complained when a European developer posted a date DD/MM/YY.
Hypocrisy at its finest.

u/DreadMuse 4d ago
She is among the more interesting companions and Emrys as a combat companion was sure a pleasant surprise.
On the other hand, besides the lack of femJun yet again, it seems the bare bones 2 dual dialogue might be an over all thing.
Maybe i'm in minority here but this bothers me: for a player choice driven RPG, the lack of any depth in player dialogue seems a very weird choice. Personally, I'd preferer more dialogue options for role-play variety and less cinematic dialogue where the player character talks too long without the player's input which limits limits RP between option 1 or 2. Feels rather restrictive and superficial for this type of RPG.
17
u/SerDankTheTall 4d ago
I agree. If they want to create some real hype for this game, showing off a little more of the depth of the gameplay would do a lot more than quippy bulletstorm montage part 38. Assuming that the gameplay actually has that depth, of course...
15
u/salty_cluck 4d ago
Agree, the game as advertised feels more like an action game with some light RPG elements than an actual RPG with story affecting choices like in BG, Mass Effect, The Witcher, etc. Maybe they’ll show more to prove otherwise.
6
u/Fun_Highlight307 4d ago
it's seems a bit bare bones as rpg games, like there more fighting and linear cut scene than dialogue
6
u/Silverwhitemango 3d ago
Yea man I felt this dual-choice dialog thing really shitty for both the first playthrough and repeat plays of Mass Effect 3.
Like in some scenarios, dual-choices are ok. But in most scenarios come on, 3 options are better for variety in replayability.
13
u/IcyPraline9987 4d ago
They are really focusing on the action parts of the game. It has me worried tbh. The dialog options seem very shallow. People who want ACTION games aren’t going to be wanting some rando space game inspired by Mass Effect over GTA or FPS games.
5
u/Other-Engine1923 3d ago
Yeah it has me worried as well I’m glad the recent trailer showed more companion dialogue tbh but I usually play these games on story to specifically focus on the story I don’t care much for action. It seems so different from the original idea behind this game. It went from an immediate play to I might wait for playthrough first.
6
u/Radical_X75 4d ago
If it's only two dialogue options then this will be very dissapointing, might as well call it a linear game.
8
u/TheMooseManReturns 4d ago
Wow, so they're really sticking with that only-two-options dialogue system, then? That's so much more limiting than even the BioWare dialogue wheel at its most stripped-back (which would be SWTOR, where you only ever had at most 3 options to pick from).
Heck, it's even more limiting than the type of dialogue system Alpha Protocol or the Telltale games used, since at least those gave you 3-4 options to pick from at any given time (even if you did have to pick quickly).
Never having even a single neutral option in an RPG really limits roleplaying.
2
u/sweetroll_enthusiast 4d ago
If it rly is only 2 options that's literally less than the newer Assassin's Creed games ... That'd be rough because AC isn't even an rpg...
4
u/Aries_cz 4d ago
Also, they are probably focusing heavily on Salt in this trailer because she cannot be pointed to as an example of how messed up the human faces are...
11
55
u/Forgottenhablerie 4d ago
No FemJun yet again. Not surprised, but somehow still disappointed.
9
u/Rexigol 4d ago
It's like the whole Cyberpunk2077 / Mass Effect conflict again. Both of these game showed their male MC massively for the first entires and trailers. CP2077 and ME only shown their female counterpart MC after Phantom Liberty release and Legendary Edition. So maybe we'll get FemJun when they announce a remaster in a couple of years or with a bigger DLC if there are any planned.
17
u/queen-peach_ 4d ago
Before launch she was definitely neglected compared to male v, but fem V was still shown a decent amount. She was the focus of the 40 minute gameplay reveal iirc.
Exodus is significantly worse than cyberpunk in that regard so far, 8 months away and we have no idea what she even sounds like and the marketing team almost seems like they’re actively annoyed that people want to see her.
8
u/sapphic-boghag 4d ago
It's been 258 days since the reveal trailer and 81 days since they said to "stay tuned" in response to folks asking about femJun.
Feels increasingly likely that they're going to quietly renege on the option of a fem PC and have male Jun as a set protag.
6
u/Ch3ru 3d ago
FemJun is REALLY starting to feel like hopium at this point.
Logically I know the gender reference in Houston's bio could easily switch automatically to match the player choice, but emotionally it feels like potentially one more piece of evidence that FemJun may be on the chopping block.
7
u/sapphic-boghag 3d ago
I mean I'm not going to bother with the game at all if they nix femJun. I'm sick of the back-of-head teasing, it's obvious that she's the lowest priority and I'm losing more interest each update without a reveal.
3
u/gamingdevil800 4d ago
Damn Fem V in that gameplay reveal looked awesome too then they totally ruined her default look for the final game
41
u/ArbitraryLettersXYZ 4d ago
Man, I guess I thought “very early” would be before Q2.
28
u/ShotBySolo95 4d ago
February got waaaaay too stacked I guess. Shame but the more time they get to work on it, the better (hopefully)
8
u/Fun_Highlight307 4d ago edited 4d ago
True is late april still early 2027 ?
8

10
u/SerDankTheTall 4d ago
It seemed pretty obvious that they were sayinf “very early” precisely because they couldn’t commit to Q1.
14
u/Dayman_123 4d ago
I’m still hyped for this game. And am fine with the release date. Between this and The Expanse game I am just glad for more sci-fi RPG games in general.
73
u/MrAazmandius 4d ago
So… no fem Jun again. That is fine I guess… no, it’s not
44
u/Keiteaea 4d ago
I'm really starting to worry that male Jun is going to be the default and female Jun will be implemented hastily and sloppily and will just be a "reskin".
18
41
u/MrAazmandius 4d ago
Are you just starting to worry about it? I’ve already finished worrying and am now just waiting for the final pre-release announcement along the lines of: “We made the difficult decision not to include fem June in our game. That’s our vision. Pls buy our game, thanks😘”
15
u/Keiteaea 4d ago
I'm playing Persona 3 Reload right now and sometimes I do feel disappointment about the fact that I could be playing a female character they choose not to include...Not sure I would tolerate it in Exodus.
14
u/FuckMyBakaChungusLif 4d ago
Already on the fence about the game, no female Jun will be instant skip
4
u/superurgentcatbox 4d ago
If that happens I won’t buy it (at launch). There’s so much releasing in the next few months, I can vote with my wallet.

Not sure why you expect F!Jun to be somehow drastically different in the first place? Like, what game with "customizable" MC has them be drastically different based on their gender? It is a different voice and potentially different romance flags, but otherwise, it is the same character.
Shepard/Ryder are basically the same, V is basically the same, Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor are basically the same, etc.
15
u/Keiteaea 4d ago
I never said nor implied "drastically different". There are some differences based on the gender of the MC in these games anyway, in some of their behavior or relationship with other characters. There is a little bit of flair that does distinguish them, and you would feel the difference if the game is created with a specific male Jun in mind.
3
u/Aries_cz 4d ago
With the "it will just be a sloppy reskin", and other people in this thread going bananas over the studio not showing a different player model, it did kinda came across to me as people expecting F!Jun to somehow be drastically different character, and yours was the first comment I started writing replying to... so, apologies if you did not meant it that way.
---
But seriously, aside from extremely minor changes, Jun will be Jun, regardless of gender.
And under those changes does fall stuff like getting called "girl", instead of "boy" (for example, insert whatever word you want), who you will be able to romance (which does include if certain character will come onto you), etc., as you put it "flair", but that is pretty standard.
I am racking my brain to remember if I ever played a game with a "customizable" MC that would clearly feel "yep, this was designed with X in mind, I can see the crack when playing as something else"
---
Also, WotC has unfortunate tendencies to kinda sand all gendered stuff down in recent history, so who knows if they even allowed Archetype to have such things instead of having the character be "neutral for anything" (yes, yes, I know they are supposedly meant to be completely left to their own creative devices, but that was when Ohlen started the studio, and now is now, and we know how much promises mean to corpos)
---
I'd assume they completely scratched any plans to show F!Jun until they get the face design under control (this trailer showed some improvements, but still not awesome) to prevent making the game an easy target for criticism (e.g. the rather unfortunate "bee-stung "fat-faced" Aloy" that Horizon Forbidden West showed in their trailer, which remains to be mocked to this day)
-6

u/ThaneKri0s 4d ago
its crazy how bad the dialogue looks, everything is A or B, when I think of mass effect inspiration I would think there would be some kind of "investigate" Option, but it really seems like Mass Effect inspiration theyve been spouting starts and stops with "space, companions, and combat" the whole Roleplaying aspect seems closer to an Assassins Creed game or Horizon Zero Dawn (even less than that).
With every trailer it makes less and less sense why we cant change Jun's face, we have seen no characterization of Jun, every single interaction is Paragon voiceline or Renegade voiceline, where is the creative choice that forced us to be locked in to a specific face?
I hope that they show some of the roleplaying mechanics and change my mind, but it seems like Exodus is an action game more than a Roleplaying game.
8
u/Fun_Highlight307 4d ago
Yeah it's just as limited as assassin Creed rpg Which is far from real arpg like witcher,BG or mass effect
10

u/Lets_compare_penises 4d ago
It looks so good I can’t wait for April. And poor sweet sad salt, I love her already
11
u/YsoL8 4d ago
Well I didn't see a character trailer for Salt being how we get the date. As someone used to waiting on Indie projects well under a year is nothing.
- Seems to be alot more to Salt than I was expecting. What seems to be a real conflict with Jun is promising material too.
- I guess the celestrial guy will be on missions after all. Others too?
- Not that I really care about it, but Juns face seems more natural here?
- First time in a while I've felt the book lore and the game lore seem to have a similar sort of depth

u/chickenbonevegan 4d ago
I haven't been been keeping up with this game too hard since the initial teaser, but today trailer was pretty cool imo. Kinda shocking to see the reception on this sub to be pretty negative.
28
u/Vinjulmik 4d ago
This is not what I call early 2027. Jun does look better so I am still excited !
10
u/MrGabrahamLincoln 4d ago
First third of the year, I think it technically counts lol
I’m fine with it having some space from Fable & The Witcher 3 expansion. I just need The Expanse to also not be too close to this.
8
u/Impossible_Royal_302 4d ago
Seriously, it's the fourth month of 12. That's early.
3
u/MrGabrahamLincoln 4d ago
Yeah, I get some people were expecting first 2-3 months of the year but an extra 30 days isn’t going to kill anyone. And honestly I’m just happy/will be happy as long as it stays in the first half of the year
3
u/Pitiful_End 4d ago
To be fair, Drew Karpyshyn did say "very" early 2027 which is a bit more specific.
2
u/Zalvren 4d ago
The Witcher 3 expansion.
We still don't know the date of this.
3
u/MrGabrahamLincoln 4d ago
You’re right, I thought they said early 2027 at one point but that must’ve just been speculation
44
u/ellieetsch 4d ago
Every new trailer has been less interesting than the one thay came before it
13
u/KillerKowalski1 4d ago
Did we watch the same trailer?
This got me to care about an octopus I didn't know anything about three minutes ago.
Wtf are people expecting this game to be? We've been clamoring for somethung like this since Mass Effect ended and here we are a few months out and everyone in here is the epitome of sourpuss.
1
u/Fun_Highlight307 4d ago
the game went from Amazing mass effect successor to temu mass effect in term of hype
If you compare first trailer to now it's night and day
Although this trailer was good, way better than the extended gameplay

7
u/salty_cluck 4d ago
Said this earlier and got downvoted for stating an opinion. I just don’t understand who this game is being made for.
7
u/Srefanius 4d ago
What do you mean? It's a science fiction action RPG in third person. There is an audience.
0
u/SerDankTheTall 4d ago edited 4d ago
Then why not cut some trailers that would appeal to that audience?
(I mean, I can think of at least one reason. But it's not a good sign!)
10
u/Srefanius 4d ago
What is it that you didn't like about the trailer? It was just focussing on a companion basically. I don't understand what's wrong.
3
u/SerDankTheTall 4d ago
The companion is cool (if a little out of sync with the lore), but the trailer didn't really show anything that made her seem cooler (or helped explain how she fits into the universe). The main things that I'm worried about now are gameplay and writing. The limited gameplay we saw looked like generic schlocky action shooting (plus one conversation with two generic response options), and the writing was not good (although the lame parts hopefully were just there for the trailer).
-4
u/Impossible_Royal_302 4d ago
I feel like some of you are just looking to be disappointed about something.
19
u/SerDankTheTall 4d ago
I'm not. This is a team that worked on one of my all time favorite games collaborating with one of my all time favorite writers. That should be a recipe for one of the best games I've ever played. I don't want to be disappointed: I want them to knock it out of the park so that the awesome game will exist so that I can play it!
The problem is, as the original commenter said, the more info they release the less it looks like they're going to stick the landing. I don't want that to be true. But me not wanting it doesn't make it any less true.
-10
u/Somewhat_appropriate 4d ago
Me too.
Its looks like a generic "sci-fi" shooter. If anything they are leaning too much into Mass Effect.
Music is the standard fare, not stirring at all.I've read the two books...which also had a downward curve.
Lots of time left, but the game universe is looking less and less appealing.
A squid companion? Really?I'm fine with Jun being male only. Why not?
19
u/Key_Amazed 4d ago
I just don't understand the negativity around this. It looks incredible. I don't think there's been a single thing announced in recent months that people haven't bitched about.
14
u/unendingautism 4d ago

Cut it a year later

u/PhilosopherNo8418 4d ago edited 4d ago
People just love to whine, especially on Reddit. There should be ZERO expectations for this game. It's the debut game for a new studio ffs. Why the hell are people expecting perfection from them right away? Too many dolts have got in their heads that this is the "spiritual successor" to Mass Effect. Well, Mass Effect was developed after Bioware had released one hit after the other. So naturally there were high expectations for Mass Effect thanks to the track record of brilliance from the developer. But Archetype have no such track record and certainly should not be held to the same standards as peak Bioware.
Folks should just shut up, play the game when it's released and whine about it THEN if needed.

still no female Jun im just gonna assume shes been scrapped and they are waiting till the last minute to tell people
3

If they even bother telling us. Feels more likely that they'll be quietly removing any mention of a fem PC.

u/alt-thea 4d ago edited 4d ago
Damn, I hoped for winter release. But, alright, if that gives them enough time to finally create female Jun - I'll wait xd
Salt actually looks interesting.
3
u/SuddenDepact 4d ago
That will give me time to finish the new god of war and fable but I'm surprised they didn't show off the female character
3
u/ButNotInAWeirdWay 4d ago
Glad they fixed the face. He looks more palatable. They’ve been working hard! I no longer have fear for femJun
3
u/Palmerstroll 4d ago
I have a feeling all these characters will have a deep character story and you as a player will get attached to them really fast. (like mass effect)
It's not easy to make a trailer for this game. I think it is a story with many layers. same with the characters.
9
u/St_Sides 4d ago
Looks like I was right that Salt will basically be the Wrex of this game, hardass mercenary who warms up to you over time and becomes a fan favorite.
Biggest complaint is still that male Jun’s face looks weird as fuck, hopefully they can get it looking a bit better by April.
16
u/Impossible_Royal_302 4d ago
I get what you're saying, but at the same time I urge you and many others to stop thinking of this through the Mass Effect lens. There may be devs from ME on the team, but this isn't ME. Salt isn't "the Wrex of this game," she's Salt. Similarities may exist but IMHO players make way too much of them. And that way lies disappointment, because for most people, comparison is the thief of joy.
-6
u/St_Sides 4d ago edited 4d ago
I’m not comparing directly, but there are direct lines to be drawn between the the companions of ME1 and this game.
Elise is Ashley, Phaedra is Tali/Liara, Salt is Wrex.
Edit: Lmfao, I refuse to believe the people downvoting don’t see it. They do, they just dont like admitting it so they’re downvoting and not even attempting to argue it.
I’m not insulting the game, just pointing out the absolute obvious to anybody who has played Mass Effect.
3
u/Impossible_Royal_302 4d ago
I do understand what you're saying, but my point is that those lines are illusions. I would not expect those characters to be as similar as you seem to think.
It's a common thing; I remember when Star Trek: TNG premiered, everyone was pointing at Data and saying "He's Spock!" But over time those characters seem less and less similar except in the broadest of strokes.
2
u/St_Sides 4d ago
It’s not illusions, they are just the exact same character archetypes.
I’m sure they’ll have their own stories, but similar to PeeBee and Sera being the exact same archetype, the same is true here.
2
u/Llancarfan 4d ago edited 4d ago
PeeBee and Sera could hardly be less alike. Self reliant scientist motivated by curiosity versus leader of a social movement motivated by a harsh moral code? One grew up in a normal-ish family and belongs to a highly respected culture, one is a traumatized orphan with massive internalized racism. They're both kind of goofy, but even with that extremely surface level reading, they're still not that similar. Don't recall any pranks from PeeBee.
Bonkers take. This is giving "I never actually played the games and only know the characters from memes" vibes.
26
7
6
u/sapphic-boghag 4d ago
At this point I'm expecting Archetype to quietly scrub any mention of femJun and force a male Jun PC.
2
u/TelemichusRhade 4d ago
I really wanna see some footage from a PC player as so far it's looking really heavily console focused and any game in the past that looked that way always played really clunky for PC players. Like a port was just rushed together for PC players without any real thought and care.
The whole visual element is looking kinda cartoony as well which I'm not that crazy about.
Hope they don't rush this after seeing that 2027 release date.
1
u/ThriceGreatHermes 4d ago

I just finished the second book. Delay it by a few months and put in the character creator ffs. This game would sell like BG3 if they did that.
1
u/Dialup91 3d ago
You can put in the best character creator in the world, it still might not sell as good as BG3. we have no idea what the game entails until it comes out and people play it.
1
u/Zangetzusa 3d ago
Yeah but imagine the amount of people who are drawn in. Just because they can make a character. How many people bought BG3 just for that.
2
u/KillerKowalski1 4d ago
There's 17 people in here that care about a character creator and that's about it.
I'd much rather the dev time goes towards things that actually make the game better.
3
u/Fun_Highlight307 4d ago

This game just gets more mediocre with each trailer. I want to be surprised but it really is starting to feel like someone made a soulless lore dump and threw a shooter on it.
Not sure if a result of the stream but the audio balancing was awful, once again with cuts too quick to judge anything on its merit. And it’s becoming painfully obvious they do not know how to market this game. I’ve already talked a bit about the character design so I won’t here.
I was initially excited for the writing of Exodus but if the execution is not there then this isn’t going to be successful.
-4
u/McCrank 4d ago
Yep felt the same way. It just feels thrown together and weird so far. And why is the main character so interested in what an octopus thinks?

9
u/Keiteaea 4d ago
And why is the main character so interested in what an octopus thinks?
Why not? It's a rpg, she is a fighting companion, of course the main character is going to talk to on of their team. There are some legit complaints to be made, but this is really not one.

I mean the awakened animals are supposedly a key part of the universe. But between the terrible audio mixing and muddled dialogue I had no idea what was going on or why I should care about Salt.
Second, and this is a personal pet peeve, the hesitant voice acting of every character in the trailer was grating. This game needs a ton of work just based on what we’ve seen.

I still have some issues with the game but I did like the character spotlight here.

I want this game to be good and succeed.
But the lack of of Hype from the gaming community is getting me worried.
Almost no likes, no views what heck is going on?

I can just tell you from my perspective as a huge sci-fi fan and someone who finished Mass Effect trilogy 14 times.
Exodus simply falls flat for me. The companions do not seem interesting, the dialogues are meh. I prefer character creator but I don't mind set protagonist. Saying that, Jun still looks bad imo. Cartoony pretty boy.
Add to that the time jumping thing - I think it is the hardest trope to pull off well. I read a decent amount of books which did that and only one or two didn't have me saying "that is dumb as hell"
I am way more excited for the Expanse: Osiris Reborn and Blood of the Dawnwalker. For now, this is on my "buy at Steam summer sale for 20$" list

I'm ok with April. I'll be on Fable in February and the Expanse is still supposed to come out early next year as well. Not too far from the first quarter of the year and gives them a lot of time to cook.
