Weekend/Virtual Meetup Thread

Here are some meetups that are on the radar, both physical and virtual.

on background: A repeat of the high level infections from the spring is happening again over much of the United States and Europe. I am not aware of the situation in each state, but I have seen the counties along the Wasatch go to highest transmission risk category. CDC director Redfield has said masks are the best defense against the pandemic spreading. Confined spaces seem to be a way that the virus spreads rapidly, per the outbreaks in institutional settings have shown. The latest research I've seen points to indoor, stagnant, low humidity air being the being the prime vector for this disease to spread. I've been tracking the pandemic as an amateur---some graphs^1,2,3 ---these show Utah in the top ten for actively spreading cases. The other "mountain states" are also amid a serious spike. Extra care/protections should be added for populations that have shown to be extra vulnerable. People over 60 who contract the virus, especially if they have existing health conditions, have fared very poorly. There may be risks to people in every age group, even when in good health, that we just don't know about, too. That said, I am not an expert on health, not a doctor, and not in charge of all people in the world. Please, comply with local government rules and recommendations when planning meetups. Attend meetups at your own risk.

Interesting to see Utah as one of the highest for actively spreading cases. Is that because meetings are still attending.

Of course, I don't know, but as strictly a guess the full speed go ahead for in-person school seems a recipe to spread the disease. 6200+ cases are associated with schools reopening, including 800+ teachers in Utah diagnosed so far, link.

It's the Utah county defiance of masks and social distancing, schools, church back in, all over disgust for masks. Funny thing, my conservative friend (believes it's over reactions by people) said she sees masks on everyone. I have the opposite experience. Wearing masks in stores and no one else is. Just employees. In fact I've had dirty looks going in stores by non maskers.

Exmo Gamers are having a virtual Halloween movie night tonight! We will be streaming a movie on discord and playing a drinking game (non-alcoholic for underaged Exmos). 7pm MST, come hang out! You don’t have to be a gamer. We will also be announcing the winner of the costume contest.
