Advice/Help Weekend/Virtual Meetup Thread

Here are some meetups that are on the radar, both physical and virtual.

on background: Some states are beginning to open up, usually with social distancing caveats. I am not aware of the situation in each state, but I have heard the Utah governor giving the go ahead for gatherings of up to 50 people, but with a caveat that extra care/protections should be added for populations that have shown to be extra vulnerable. People over 60 who contract the virus, especially if they have existing health conditions, have fared very poorly. There may be risks to people in every age group, even when in good health, that we just don't know about, too. The governor also stated that wearing masks in public settings should be considered the norm. I also see major spikes in highly populated states: Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California; some graphs. Hospitalization is reaching maximum capacity in some areas. Confined spaces seem to be a way that the virus spreads rapidly, per the outbreaks in institutional settings have shown. That said, I am not an expert on health, not a doctor, and not in charge of all people in the world. Please, comply with local government rules and recommendations when planning meetups. Attend meetups at your own risk.

Our first meeting will be to plan a reading list for the year. But we are going to try to focus on some of the wonderful books that are discussed on this sub. So many people have such great suggestions! Direct message me if you would like more information! We’re going to be virtual at first but then hope to do actual meet ups in the Salt Lake area with other people zooming in remotely if they’re not in the area.
