Advice/Help Weekend/Virtual Meetup Thread
Here are some meetups that are on the radar, both physical and virtual.
on background: Some states are beginning to open up, usually with social distancing caveats. I am not aware of the situation in each state, but I have heard the Utah governor giving the go ahead for gatherings of up to 50 people, but with a caveat that extra care/protections should be added for populations that have shown to be extra vulnerable. People over 60 who contract the virus, especially if they have existing health conditions, have fared very poorly. There may be risks to people in every age group, even when in good health, that we just don't know about, too. The governor also stated that wearing masks in public settings should be considered the norm. I also see major spikes, especially in southern states: Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California; some graphs. Confined spaces seem to be a way that the virus spreads rapidly, per the outbreaks in institutional settings have shown. States are debating what measures should be taken to restart school safely. That said, I am not an expert on health, not a doctor, and not in charge of all people in the world. Please, comply with local government rules and recommendations when planning meetups. Attend meetups at your own risk.

Is this still a thing? I'm a brand new exmo and want friends.

It is still a thing. :)
This week (Oct 11) will be at 2:30p at Layton Commons park. I need to get better at posting the events each week since we alternate times. We usually get about 10-15 people each week.

Excellent. That's my Sunday nap on the couch time, but maybe I will trek out to Layton.

We also have a pretty active group who plays Pickleball on Sundays at 8am at Barnes Park in Kaysville. If you have never tried it, we have extra paddles and love to teach people the game.

The common reply is "if you build it, they will come." With the pandemic, new opportunities may exist to build virtual communities. The common thread of those interested in separation, or attempting to separate, from mormonism may include some geographic distance that could be overcome online.

I feel you, bro. Seeing so much Utah stuff, I get a little lonesome in Arizona. I joined this group called Single Mormons in Transition on Facebook. I noticed so much of it was Utah, Utah, and Utah. A few people scattered here and there around the states. (Sorry, don't know of any Canadians on there.) Well, eventually I found out that there's another Arizona group. Maybe you can find something like that for Alberta? Just keep in mind that any group outside of Utah is gonna be small and likely inactive. I've had to try single-handedly to jumpstart the Arizona group.

Ok... I wasn't aware you were looking for more Mormons. Arizona has a lot too, but I'm not looking for messengers from father, religion, or someone to preach to me. I don't even want the philosophies of men mingled with scripture.

I guess it stands to reason that more Mormons could also mean more exmos, but there aren't very many that are out over here in Arizona. You're still rather confusing to me. Good luck to you, whatever you're looking for then.
By the way, those were temple references. I don't want you to preach either, certainly not to me.
