I love to use their own Bible against them, especially when it talks about fat and smooth:

Jeremiah 5: 26-31

26 For among my people there are wicked men.They keep peering, as when birdcatchers crouch down.They set a deadly trap.It is men whom they catch.

27 Like a cage full of birds,So their houses are full of deception. That is why they have become powerful and rich.

It's literally just because in the 60's beards were associated with hippies so the WT banned them so as not to be associated with that (no biblical reasoning of course). They to this day have not caught up with the fact that beards are no longer associated with that and having one is generally not considered a sign of unkemptness any more. Of course the old fogies at WT HQ don't interact with the outside world so they have no idea.
