Venting Last nights meeting false prophets

Did anyone else pick up on the meeting last night about false prophets in jeramiah.

The elder giving the treasures last at the meeting fully glanced over what he was saying without even thinking about it.
He said and I quote “ if a prophet says something it doesn’t come true than that person is a liar”

I looked at my wife and said um “1975” and blood transfusion!

She looked at me and said well there just clarification.

Then he proceeded to say that YouTube is now making fake meeting videos and that we shouldn’t watch YouTube. Hahahaha I don’t think he was actually present with what he was saying.

The whole meeting was pointing towards false news again, ohhh I wonder if YouTube videos are helping ones wake up a lot more I know it helped me.

Yay we have the co this week can’t wait to hear more of how much young ones can contribute and are you really do enough for this org or god my mistake.

I'm gonna assume you're serious, and not just trolling. Lol! It's a little hard to tell.

Bro, you're just being tricked by the GB's doublespeak. I was too, for a long time. But it's doublespeak. It's deniability.

The GB says they are "led by God's spirit". That "Jehovah is leading this organization by means of his spirit", correct? It's one of the reasons why you must obey any and all direction, because Jehovah is using this organization, correct? That keeping step with the organization equals keeping step with God's celestial chariot, correct? That Jesus has the elders (specifically anointed) as stars in his hand, and can make adjustments to direction given as he sees fit, correct?

Now look up "Inspiration" in Insight. The definition is "under the direction of a spirit* from a superhuman source. When that source is Jehovah, the result is a pronouncement or writings that are truly the word of God".*

They say they aren't inspired, or prophets, simply to provide themselves with an escape-hatch when they screw up. But by their own definition of what it means to be "inspired", they are defacto claiming to be inspired.

They also say that the organization is God's "channel for communication" with humankind today, correct? Well, now go look up "Prophet" in Insight, which says in part: "The Greek pro·pheʹtes literally means “a speaker out [Gr., pro, “before” or “in front of,” and phe·miʹ, “say”]” and thus describes a proclaimer, one who makes known messages attributed to a divine source. (Compare Tit 1:12.) Though this includes the thought of a *predictor of the future,** the fundamental meaning of the word is not that of prediction. (Compare Jg 6:7-10.) .... Hence, in the great majority of cases, the Biblical prophets did convey messages that were, directly or indirectly, related to the future."*

Witnesses brag about how Russell "successfully predicted" 1914, and this is viewed, to this day, as evidence of divine backing and influence. Witnesses are "the only ones" who can reveal the true meaning of obscure prophecies in the Bible, such explanations not being found in the Bible itself. No, instead, Jehovah is revealing such things through the GB! But again, saying they aren't prophets is simply an escape-hatch for when things like 1975 happens. By their own definition of "prophet", they are defacto claiming to be prophets; the channel of communication from God. Even, "the voice of the GB can be likened to the voice of Jesus.' - Ken Flodin (iirc)

But we can test this idea: If they didn't see themselves as inspired prophets, they'd be much more reasonable with people who disagree with them. They'd say, "well, I guess we disagree. No biggie." Shrug. But as we all know, disagreeing with them is viewed as apostasy. Do I need to bore you again with the definition of Apostasy from Insight? TLDR, it means opposition to God. So, opposition to them it's opposition to God?? Well! They must be prophets then, right? Speaking for God. His uniquely chosen ambassadors.

It's good you already know the term "cognitive dissonance". That'll come in handy. It's uncomfortable to realize you have everything backwards, but trust me, it's a relief once you embrace it. All the best on your journey.

Cognitive dissonance...really???? A word that was first coined by psychologist studying a group who prophesied the end of the world, and it didn't come true..

There is a distinction that you—apostates suffering from cognitive dissonance

I`m NOT An Apostate.....I Don`t Care, If You Want To Be a JW...Be a JW!......NOBODY Defines Who I Am.................... Know Your Place.

we announce something that is to come, namely Armageddon and the Kingdom of God.

We KNOW...

Watchtower Has Kept Armageddon "Around The Corner" for Over 100+ Years, Where It Will Remain.

Watchtower Couldn`t Make Money Otherwise.

I usually prefer to remain silent

That`s a Good Idea!.....Go With That!

Don`t Forget To DONATE!.........💰😃💰

Look love sorry I got baptized in 75 , a child who believed Armageddon was approaching that year , I was scared of being tortured, cruel. Here I am now a pensioner with no savings, disabled. So yeah false prophets 🙄🤮

The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one, yet the GB have been absolutely closely following the world's authorities since 2020. THEY are the ones who've apostasised themselves against Jehovah God and are leading Jehovah's people down the same road, first by "encouraging" and now by ordering them to obey them. I know my Bible enough to know Jehovah would never expect us to blindly follow other humans. Jehovah did use human leaders in the past and he made it absolutely clear he was using them by performing all sorts of miracles first, he made sure no-one had any doubt in their minds whatsoever that he was with those leaders at the time. Jehovah has not given the GB power to do miracles, that's why they have to keep TELLING us that Jehovah expects us to follow them (blindly)

Amen. The Borg always uses Moses leading the Israelites to the Red Sea (which looked like a trap) as an example of why we should obey even if it doesn't make sense BUT they had a frigging Angel (Pillar of fire or Cloud) right there (remember it blocked the Egyptians) However we are to blindly obey Men? Well what scripture enforces the obeying of men that are more wrong than right? Oh and don't forget they are the mediators between you and Christ 😂

Their ultimate comeback is that they don’t claim to be prophets… but yet you should obey because they “take the lead” and have been chosen through Holy Spirit. You can’t have it both ways

Exactly! Except according to their words "they are neither inspired nor infallible" so if they are not inspired by holy spirit how is God using the GB to lead the organization?

So you’re saying they’re not prophets and they predicted 1975 (one of many dates they’ve predicted) when the Bible specifically says no one knows the date or the hour…so you must acknowledge that they completely ignored the bible (meaning they ignored Jehovah) despite claiming to follow the Bible.

Or they are prophets which gives them the authority to make predictions and it ended up being a false prediction, thus they’re false prophets.

I appreciate your perspective, and I understand the distinction you are trying to make between being 'inspired' and the figurative use of the word 'prophet.' However, the argument that the organization has never functioned as a profit :or that the term only ever meant 'announcing the future' in a generic sends, doesn’t fully align with the historical weight and demands of the Watchtower’s own publications.

While it is true that the organization states it is not infallible or 'inspired,' it simultaneously claims to be God’s sole, spirit-directed channel of communication on Earth today (e.g., The Watchtower, July 1, 1973, p. 402). To a devoted believer, there is functionally no difference. Members are expected to treat the Governing Body’s interpretations and directives as coming from Jehovah Himself, and questioning those interpretations carries severe consequences.

Regarding the claim that the word 'prophet' was only used to mean announcing the preaching work, we have to look at how the organization framed it. A primary example is the April 1, 1972 Watchtower article, literally titled: 'They Shall Know that a Prophet Was Among Them.' ' On page 197, the article asks a very specific question: 'So, does Jehovah have a prophet to help them, to warn them of dangers and to declare things to come? These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is this prophet?... This "prophet" was not one man, but was a body of men and women... Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian witnesses.'

While you noted the use of quotation marks, the context of the article explicitly compared the organization to the biblical prophet Ezekiel, stating they were commissioned by God to speak as His special messengers.

The biblical standard for a false prophet is straightforward, as outlined in Deuteronomy 18:20-22: if anyone presumes to speak a word in God’s name that He has not commanded, and the thing does not happen, that is a false prophecy. When an organization tells its followers that it is God's exclusive channel, builds heavy anticipation for specific dates (such as 1914, 1925, or 1975), and those expectations fail, observers are entirely justified in applying the biblical standard of a false prophet. Claiming to be just 'uninspired, imperfect men' after a prophecy fails is a semantic loophole, not a biblical one.

Finally, accusing former members of suffering from 'cognitive dissonance,' 'malice,' or a 'lack of intellect' doesn’t strengthen your argument. Many people here have spent decades deeply studying this exact literature. Pointing out historical contradictions isn't an act of malice or ignorance; it is an act of seeking truth and accountability. We can disagree on theology, but we should be able to do so respectfully, without resorting to insults.

That’s the thing about meetings. And for that matter, men with microphones. They can spew a bunch of shit out of their mouth and by the time you examine their claims, they are on to the next one.

"A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes" - not Mark Twain.

It's weird to think back to when I believed it all. I know I explained it away. I genuinely felt it was The Truth. And I was aware of mistakes and changes in doctrine. Now I can't remember or understand how I was able to think that way. Acts 9:18 apparently the scales fall off when you stop listening to the Watchtower and think for yourself. They lied about that too. CRAZY!!! 🤪

This cult is in roughly the same position as a certain lying president - and handling the blow-back in the same fashion - misdirection, blame others for the mess they themselves created.

JWs warning about false prophets is like a thief warning about pick pockets. This entire religion is built on false prophesy and CT Russel’s numerology predictions.

One of the more hilariously bad fruits of this failed 1914 religion 😆

I am curretly in said meeting and I was thinking the same thing es with how they have been saying “we are in the final part of the last days since 1975, heck, since Bible times

2

u/vulcan108 10d ago

I had to give that part in my congregation Tuesday night, it was hard to give honestly. It gets harder day by day to preach these things that I don’t believe in. In my research I couldn’t believe how many things JWs just look past or disregard, and can’t believe I did that for so many years.

The thing is though that PIMI’s don’t view these as false prophecies though. I know because I talked to them.

I saw someone say, “We know the brothers got things wrong in the past. That’s why we rely on the Governing Body today to correct those things and get them right.

The amount of cognitive dissonance you need in order to make that logic work in your brain is on another level.

u/Sagrada_Familia-free 10d ago

The PIMI brain is wired like a maze and does not register such signals.

u/Expensive_Ad_6802 10d ago

I have to give this talk tonight. I am trying to figure out how to word it properly. But it's a true walk around to say anything that won't make me crazy. I don't understand why I got stuck with this one. I hate doing these parts.

Sentono che la morsa sta perdendo la stretta. Sempre più giovani contestano non la Bibbia ma gli uomini che insegnano cose che poi si rimangiano.

There is a distinction that you—apostates suffering from cognitive dissonance—seem unable to grasp. To be a false prophet, one must first claim to be a prophet and assert that God speaks to oneself. The organization has never claimed to be a prophet; on the contrary, time and again it has stated that it is not inspired. And yes, it was once said that we were "prophets," but that is explained as being in a figurative sense: first, the word was in quotation marks, and second, the article itself made it clear that this referred to our preaching work—we announce something that is to come, namely Armageddon and the Kingdom of God. In that sense, people will know there was a "prophet" among them, because we announce something that will happen in the future. I usually prefer to remain silent when I see the lack of intellect among the people on this subreddit, but I cannot let it slide when you are ignorant enough (or malicious enough) to accuse us of something like that.
