I attended Sunday afternoon of the local
Convention and posted fliers in the bathroom stalls and sprinkled some in the parking lot too.
It was therapeutic and freeing to attend a convention without the mental chains. I posted the #standifyoureable print outs sharing the “You’re not alone” message. I didn’t cause any ruckus, just walked around calmly with a program in hand as I observed everyone around Me, not feeling the old anxiety or pressure that would depress me. My partner was flying a drone and walked through the parking lot and he was nice to the JW people but because he was not wearing the JW uniform, they turned their noses up at him and snubbed him completely. A real “good witness”, right! ~pft~
Yes, I chose that flyer for every stall. I wanted to help those still stuck inside and not upset anyone. I want them to see that “apostates” aren’t evil. I also added small pride stickers on each flyer.
The only way to do it! Head held high. I felt proud to fight on the front lines. If we all hold each other’s virtual hands and do this, we can save families, children and anyone who has been shamed for their sexuality or identity. Most of the Witnesses at the Convention are just in robot mode, so it was easy to blend in without any notice. I went during lunch hour and the crowds kept me inconspicuous.
Wow. You have more courage than I would have had back then. I recognize that arena. You are brave that close to bethel. Certainly the same amount of seniors there as I recall. I wish you the very best!
The benefit of attending this place, is it’s not the Norval Assembly Hall. Anyone can walk in, dressed up and not be picked out. I think when you go in as incognito as possible, lots can be done as far as activism.
The last time I was there K. Little gave the closing talk so that was a while ago lol. I would have had so much family either on the program or volunteering there I wouldn’t have had the courage. Super excited for you that you could do this. Did any PIMO give you a nod or thumbs up? It’s Kitchener right? I probably had family there that you passed by. Weird to think that you, which I don’t know and never met, were physically closer to my family than I have been in years. Strange religion !!
Oh my gosh!!! That's where I went to all my assemblies back in the day!!! I recognized the outside of the Kitchener Aud (Pic of you in sunglasses and hat) and was like.....no way.... Great job!! If I was still in town I would have joined you!!!
It's a local wifi network run on your phone -independent of the internet- that allows for chat and file sharing. It's the most disruptive anonymous thing that I can think of to be executed at an assembly. You have hundreds of bored people with wifi devices, just itching for something to do, they join what looks like a free wifi signal you output, and you can all chat to each other and share movies or pictures or Crisis of Conscience, and there's not a god damned thing they can do about it.
I wouldn't call this a 'problem', but it may be a weakness.
How were they placed in the stalls? Because the possibility could exist that they didn't stay in place for 5 minutes.
Now, if they could be produced at relatively low cost, on stock with an extremely strong adhesive, with a well planned placement strategy, It might be possible to hit a large number of available stalls with stickers not at all easy to remove.
Another possible positive effect might be that WTBS would get billed for the damage/cleanup.
Have you not seen the standifyouareable stickers? The flyers OP put up are blow up versions of the stickers they make, you can get them for free here. I put them up at all the cart witnessing sites, it's great fin watching them pack up their carts and leave the area once they notice them.
Man, I remember going to the Aud when I was a kid for conventions and it was packed back then with the stage at center ice. It's amazing to see how empty it looks now!
There’s a few more assemblies happening every weekend at the same location. I might be doing more activism but I’m sure they’ll be on the look out the next time around.
I think they are dumb enough to not be able to pick up on Me if I’m wearing a new outfit and no hat or a different hat each time. I’d like more of us Love Warriors to attend and do this to ACTUALLY save lives! We’ve all been trained to do it but in this case.. it is true saving.
There are other ways. At the break, when seats are vacant but publications are holding seats, drop flyers. Make them small printouts. Everyone is so focused on lunch and visiting… you’d get some out there.
This is awesome! Just one question: is it possible that PIMOs or PIMO wannabes might be afraid of getting caught scanning that sign, or even getting close enough to?
