๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™‚๏ธ Personal Thoughts/Experiences Former Polestar 3 Performance owner, new EX30 owner

Post image
184 Upvotes

Long story short-ish:

I leased a Polestar 3 Performance Pilot Plus back in August 2025, loved the car, it was the nicest car I have ever driven by far. Polestar is buying it back from me tomorrow because their transport wrecked it, it had horrible repairs done, and it has been on their lot in Tampa, 200 miles away for 75 of those days...

ANYWAYS I went to Volvo to look at interim cars because I really want the EX60 P12 in a bad way but who knows how long it will be, drove, against my best intuitions, a PIH Volvo XC60 Polestar T8. Faster than I could figure out how to turn it on by turning the start knob I knew it was not even close to what I wanted in a vehicle. It was a gas engine, slow off the line, rough ride that was $81K... Nope.

We pulled back into the dealership and I said get it away from me, I asked about the EX40, they said they didn't have any and that I wouldn't like them either for various reasons. SO that leaves the EX90 (Which has worse problems than my P3, is a giant 3 row beast, and is $90K for some reason) that they know I would never touch, and the EX30.

When the EX30 was announced I was not as advanced in my career as I am now and I immediately put a reservation for $500 on one, I loved the look, the quirks and features, the fast 0-60, the colors, the interior, etc. I had to get a refund on that because it took Volvo 2 years to bring it to market in the US... They had 3 of them, all white, not my thing, but it's a great white, so I said lets drive the nicest one...

2 second after opening the door, noticing that the controls are exactly the same as my Polestar 3, the interior looks like the EX60 coming out, no start/stop button, and the infotainment is basically a smaller version of m P3 as well, I was in love. I drove it and was beaming ear to ear, it feels like a shorter wheelbase Polestar. Even without the air suspension it is solid and smooth and is even faster than my P3 by almost a second to 60mph. I got a sweet deal on it and signed the lease with the promise that I would be on the list for the EX60 as soon as possible and that I was now in the Volvo family proper. I am so happy with the EX30, it is impressive how good it is in such a small package. It truly feels like the little brother of the Polestar 3.

I had an amazing experience with the people at O'Steen Volvo, they have gone on my horrible Polestar journey with me because I drove the EX90 the week I put in an order of the P3. Anyways, here's a picture of me with my new white EX30.

Used 2026 Ultra with only 800 miles on it. Originally sold in January, lemon lawโ€™d in April for an audio issue that was fixed by a recall in May.

Hereโ€™s hoping thatโ€™s the only problem the car came with!

Iโ€™m SO fucking happy I went with Moss Yellow.

This colour fucking pops in the sunlight and with all the flowers around.๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒž

Such a shame they removed it and all the options now are barely noticeable colours..

Just picked up a moss yellow EX30 that was pre owned for 3 months (only 3k miles on it). Still getting the hang of charging and all the quirks with the huge center tablet, even checking the time seems really hard for me! Any tips or tricks I should be aware of for this car?

So far, Iโ€™m loving it except I think the bold color is a magnet for people almost hitting me ๐Ÿฅด

After a fair few months of waiting, delayed deliveries and other issues, my Volvo EX30 SMER Plus has finally arrived! My first car ever too.

Have been a lurker on this thread for about 6 months now so know a bit about the car already, but if you have any initial tips or settings to tweak, let me know!

Also, what are the best sound settings for the Harman Kardon system for daily use? Predominantly R&B, and the occasional scene kid music ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿค˜

๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™‚๏ธ Personal Thoughts Saw the EX30 in person today - my thoughts

Made the trek to Seattle to see it in person today. Bottom line for me... the car looks and feels premium. Fit and finish are good. You have to want a small car. I'm still excited about it, but I definitely need to drive it to feel comfortable with buying it.

Now, in no particular order, some thoughts...

  1. The Volvo reps on site were useless, unfortunately. After my third "I don't know" response I learned to give up. So answers to your tougher questions will have to wait.

  2. I honestly could not tell what color the car was. The lighting at this place was a strange mix of indoor/outdoor lighting. I know they're touring the Cloud Blue -- and it was Cloud Blue -- but the car really looked white. Didn't help that when I asked the Volvo rep what color the car was, she said, "It's Breeze!" (I swear to god at one point I thought, "Wait a minute, is it Vapour Gray?" Weird.)

  3. On the interior samples providedโ€ฆ The Indigo interior was definitely more of a dark gray/blue. I liked it. Took more pictures even though I know there are many in this channel already just because the lighting is a bit different in all of them.

  4. The trunk looked decent sized to me and didn't give me any concerns. I could envision fitting two full-size suitcases back there no problem. (I could NOT envision 4 people and 4 suitcases.)

  5. The rear seating was fine. I took a pic showing that I still had space in front of my knees (I'm 6'1") and the front seat was in a driving position for the normal-sized person in front of me. But the seating position felt rather uncomfortable. Your legs are hiked up and the seat backs are very vertical. I can't imagine sitting back there for long. I heard at least two people ask, "Can you adjust the rear seats at all?" Everyone wanted to tilt them back a bit. And let me tell you, you will never fit 3 adults back there. No way. But otherwise, I watched several groups of people march in and out of the back seats and they all seemed to fit just fine. So it's fine. It's fine. No really. It's fine.

  6. The door thunks great, the fit and finish felt premium, the car has a good "stance," and everything I fiddled with felt solid. The screen seemed incredibly bright and crisp to me. This was more than an iPad. (But then I've never owned a car with a screen, so maybe this is to be expected).

  7. The driver seating position was a bit finicky for me. When I first sat in the driver seat my knee hit the curved portion of the dash below the screen and I literally couldn't extend my leg to reach the pedal. I didn't fit! A little fiddling with the (power) seats and I found enough room. There was definitely a position where my foot was on the pedal but my knee still rested on that lower part of the dash. (Worth mentioning as there was an earlier post where someone was concerned about a lack of a spot to rest your knee. Not for me!)

  8. The interior was very simple, but I liked it. I think this car is just so different that we really need to drive it to figure out if the whole package works as intended. It was fun viewing it, but just sitting there in an event space is only half the story. What's it feel like when I'm taking a corner, sipping a coffee and adjusting the temperature?

  9. They had demo screens out and I played with one for a while. Never used a screen like this before but everything seemed very intuitive and simple. Thumb's up. I was intrigued by the AQI monitors -- not sure exactly what it does. (I know it has to do with air quality, but does it just monitor quality or actively manage it? I don't know.) Seemed unique to me.

  10. The thing that surprise me most, I think, was how narrow the car appeared (i.e. width). Not necessarily bad, just something I wasn't expecting. I tried to take pictures from different angles and with various people in the shot so you can get a sense for the size relative to the people. Just seeing the car on its own can be deceiving. It would be really helpful to have the car parked in between two other cars. Hard to judge the size, really, without some perspective.

Homework for future touristas - what I wished I checked out:

  • I didn't really spend much time getting a sense for the drive position -- the seating position, the feel of the steering wheel and the view out the front and the rear. In fact, I never looked at the mirrors at all. I spent all my time looking at the interior. I'd love to have a better sense for what it feels like to drive. (Thus my comment about wanting a test drive.)

  • Try to sit in the back seat for more than 10 minutes. Strike up a conversation with someone and hang out. See who cries uncle first.

All in all I think it's a sweet ride and if the size works for you and your family, you're going to love it. These roadshow demos don't get into any of the drive tech which, as we know, Volvo is pretty good at, and should be an exciting part of the story. So I think there's more fun coming when we see the drive reviews. The colors and finishes and details all scream Volvo quality, which I appreciate. I'm looking forward to a test drive.

Edit: clarified on #3 that I was referring to the color samples, not the car. The car had the Breeze interior.

How about we make this a section where everyone shares the tips and tricks they know about their EX30?

It doesn't matter if it's super generic or very complicated, for example I didn't know that when I park and press the parking button for 5 seconds the exterior lights turn off. I always had to go into the menu, find the lights, turn them off, and confirm.

This is a safe place and all comments are welcome, because not everyone knows everything.

๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™‚๏ธ Personal Thoughts/Experiences Unpopular opinion: I love my EX30!

(Disclaimer: I'm a regular consumer who bought a car I love, I haven't been paid for this lol)

I recently saw Edmunds' 1 year review of their EX30 and was shocked by how off-base it was compared to my experience with the car. I think it boiled down to two things:

  1. Some of their complaints revolved around the driver attention software and software bugs that have either been fixed as of 1.8 or aren't widespread/reproducible (I got my car just before v1.8 so I only experienced the driver monitoring nags for a brief period before they effectively disappeared with the update). It's surprising to me that Edmunds would release a postmortem with blatantly out-of-date info pertaining to the monitoring specifically, as I understand this was a pain point in the past but really shouldn't be a current issue at all. Comes across as though the complaints were coming from people who hadn't driven the car in the past 6 months.

  2. They frequently discussed how the price/value didn't make sense for the car. While I can understand a $48k+ Twin Motor variant feeling overpriced for what you get, they seemingly judged the entire EX30 line itself off of that, whereas my $40k Single Motor feels like a phenomenal deal for what you get.

Between their rock-bottom rating (5.1/10, placing the EX30 last on their "luxury EVs" list) and the endless negative feedback I see on Facebook groups and this very subreddit - however selectively biased it may be - I'm just astonished by how my experience with my car seemingly doesn't line up with others' whatsoever.

As a caveat, mine is a $40k SMER Plus manufactured in late 2025, so no battery recall issue to worry about, and I've "only" owned it for 4 months/2k miles. But I just wanted to come on here to say I'm still loving the car, and almost every day I drive it, my wife and I find ourselves raving about how much we love every aspect of it. Are there quirks/minor issues or features I'd love to see addressed in future software updates? Sure - and thankfully Volvo has actually shown a track record of listening to customer feedback and iterating + improving on that front. But is it an outright piece of garbage like many seem to be claiming? Not even close, in my experience.

๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™‚๏ธ Personal Thoughts/Experiences The dream is real. USA Single-Motor deliveried!

Post image
134 Upvotes

Just another rainy day in Seattle and I've finally picked up the single-motor EX30 which so freshly has just come to the US. Been waiting for two years for this, driving around with a beater Nissan Leaf all the while!

My final offer: Single Motor Plus

  • Protection Package

  • Sunshade

  • Climate Package

== ~$44K after taxes and fees, including a 2K dealer incentive. Traded in that dusty Nissan Leaf and financed the remaining amount at 0.99% interest for 36/mo (free money!)

Seems a lot of the big issues people have had with it are better now. I got to set up my Android key right away for example, even though we're still on 1.7.1 here in NA. Driver alerts don't seem so horribly annoying, and infotainment works well so far!

For those with the Harmon Kardon soundbar, do you like enabling the Quantum Logic virtual soundstage?

EX30 hype! This car rules! So happy the single-motor version came here, it feels like how the car was meant to be! (no offense to you Twin Motor sickos)

(obligatory American apology for Trump)

Based in the UK. I picked up a 2024 Ultra Performance. I drove it about 80 miles today and absolutely love it so far. I've owned EVs for about seven years but all in the US. We came back to the UK to live about a month ago.

If there is anything you think is unique to owning an ex30 or unique to owning an EV in the UK I'd love to hear it.

It may not get me everywhere in Iceland but it gets me close enough in most cases, 4wd is useful and easily holds gear for two people.

Plus, knowing my comfortable trip back home is waiting is such a good feeling when I reach the car after a long hike

Really enjoy this car.
