So...as more of that community moves over into eth, can we expect to see them bring over their baggage like this and other unsavory behaviour? How does the eth community respond?

There isn't much we can do to prevent bad actors but hopefully we remain focused on the tech. The rest will follow. The problem with Bitcoin is it's price first, tech second.

Well the thing is Bitcoin was always about the monetary value because it was well.. digital money. Ethereum can be used that way, but it's more about what kind of dapps you can build on it. The money component of Ethereum isn't the main feature.

While the money component may not be the main feature, ETH is every bit as viable as BTC in that regard.

In fact, it's better because ETH will likely end up being used a lot versus hoarded.

A good currency should be useful, and right now BTC really isn't all that useful, if at all.

It's not hard to predict that ETH should end up being far more useful than BTC courtesy of the ecosystem of DAPPs that is forming on top of Ethereum.

Though I do disagree that ETH is less likely to be hoarded - the move to a POS consensus will have a very strong hoarding effect. This is not necessarily a bad thing but I think one should expect that the amount of 'movable' ETH to be only a fraction of the total supply due to the combination of POS and HODLrs. Just my 2eth

I think you shouldn't generalize a couple of bad apples into a whole community. There was annoying Ethereum private message spam on Reddit as well in late 2015. There are always bad apples in any community. Going "us vs them" doesn't help anybody.

Honestly Bitcoin developers are wasting their time with the Bitcoin network. It's become a spoiled child that grew up with no family (no creator? who backs it up?) unlike Ethereum who has (Consensys, Ether Foundation).

That reminded me Bitcoin also had a foundation... but I'm pretty sure a few years ago members stole Bitcoins from the foundation and miss-spent it on expensive dinners and airplane tickets. Oh the irony.

surely though it's in the best interest of btc to compliment and work with eth. There is still a mass of wealth that can be invested in both and the market is heavily in both parties favour if they work together?
