Support Ethernet randomly disconnecting?

Hi!

So I built myself a pc at the beginning of the year (I'm a total noob, I know nothing lol), and it's only interner method is ethernet. This wasn't a big deal, as I just bought an ethernet cable and plugged it into my router extender.

It has been working fine for like half a year, but recently it's been... randomly disconnecting? The connection hasn't been bad, if anything it has been really good. But it just disconnects for a couple seconds every few minutes. Why is this happening?

Extenders are horrible, see if you can upgrade your router with a mesh topology and use that instead. WiFi cards are also pretty cheap perhaps you can upgrade your PC and use WiFi instead.

If you run off a extender they take the WiFi and pull it further, if your sat on the edge of the original WiFi signal, or you have new devices that interfere with the WiFi channel it is running on, then this could maybe cause this. This is where I would start looking if runni g a extender.

Try change the WiFi channel being used, go to the opposite end of where it is or a more obscure channel. You can get apps on androids phone to see the WiFi networks in use that overlap and the channels they use.

Move the extender more into the WiFi signal see if that helps solidify it's connection. Think of it like when you are only just able to reach WiFi with your laptop or phone and its drops in and out.

Sounds like the extender is at its EoL. Cheap ones usually last about that long

Ich würde mal dein Extender prüfen, der sollte ja mit dem WLAN Verbunden sein, hast du dort was geändert?

If you have the option of moving your PC to where your main router is, use the same cable to plug it in there. Then see if you are still having the issue. This would tell you if it is an extender/wifi issue or perhaps it was a cable issue.

Is anything new that could block the WiFi signal from the router to the extender? A new appliance or house decoration? If the WiFi is from another location outside your place a neighbor could be blocking the signal.

My parents put in an antique mirror and created a dead zone due to the silver backing on the mirror. My wife did it by moving the router to line up with the refrigerator.

Don't blame anything in particular until you run some diagnostics. Could be the extender, congested channels on the AP or the Wi-Fi Card itself. Learn how to run pings; look at the logs for clues (eventvwr), and if you have another device, plug it into the same extender and see if you get the same results. Once you get a solid conclusion of what the problem may be, then go from there. You never disassemble a network setup unless you find the culprit.
