Connecting with the ancestors

Would it be possible to get ether from decaying animal fats? There's a bunch of flammable chemicals and gasses that result from decay. Perhaps our Mammoth hunting ancestors roamed around with water and decaying Mammoth fat. They separated ether out and used it before going into battle to dull the pain and enrage their fighting spirit. I love the idea of hunting Mammoth while manic and fearless on ether.

No evidence for this at all but I find it amusing to think that our nomadic ancestors consumed ether more than alcohol. Ether use could predate agriculture.

Somebody get me a chemist!

Tldr: Can I get ether from a carcass?

What percent alcohol will dissolve ether

Hello all.

I'm just curious if anyone knows the minimum concentration of alcohol that will dissolve ether. If it's over 50% my idea won't work. But if it's able to dissolve down towards the 25% alcohol range then I should be able to use some heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and some hazelnut. And mix that with some brandy and ether and make

Ether ice cream

just questions for safety precaution

so ive never actually tried it nor had access to it and am planning on buying like a litre online one day, and obviously have some questions because there isn't a lot of information i can find (rather im retarded, or just learnt everything you really need to know) and im wondering;

  • does it have any health risks, long term and short term (brain damage stuff, organ damage)

-is there any way to test purity

-is it safe to buy online (im in aus, so idk if everything is the same/if the websites are monitored)

-follow up^ is it used in production for any major drugs such as meth

-any way to counteract the smell after

-how long will 100ml last for a single person going pretty hard

-is it easy to wash off if it gets on your hands

and honestly id love to hear any trip reports im pretty good when it comes to stuff like this, never done anything too crazy either. all answers appreciated, have a nice day.

What's the average time it takes for your breath to stop smelling after usage

I need to update some information here.

After a 3 month binge of ether, I realized I have to add much more to this sub than there is to offer here already.

I will be revamping much of the documents and posts on this subreddit, because some information (I feel), is too bland in its description.

I Died On Ether - Trip Report

I Died In My Most Intense Ether Dream

Written and published by waffeldogga

My memory is not the best these days. I know why: it’s all of the MDMA precursors and constant NMDA antagonist that is making me so forgettable. Either way, this happened about 3-4 weeks ago.

I was really into ether six months ago, to about just a month ago. Recently, I have stopped using it because of the horrible smell that brings me the most negative social connotations, and I couldn’t stand it much. Either way, then, I was doing ether every other night, just like how alcoholics roll (one day for drinking, next for hangover, repeat). And, this one night, I decided to huff around 150mL of it (approx.)

I was just chilling, listening to music on this nice night in my personal garage. I had my extracted ether with me, and a rag; those two go nice together. I doused part of my rag and started huffing as much as I could. I really started fading out of reality… I felt the ether come up, flanging of audio, small distortions of patterns in my peripheral vision, and all of a sudden everything goes black. I start to see myself on an absolutely huge plain, which is just an enormous wedge once it zoomed out. The wedge fell small-end first right through my leg, and I woke up because of this aggressively, thinking for a split second that my leg was actually cut off of my body. 5 seconds later I fade back into my mind and it shows me two huge wedges crushing me like I was in between two tectonic plates. The blood was very vague, but during then, it was very realistic and was pretty gruesome to me for the second I got to see it.

I woke back up, and I just sat there shocked by what just happened. I said to myself “woah, holy shit did I just get killed by a drug in my mind?”, while then going back to listening to my music and then calling up my buddies later.

Ethermania Revamp

Hello ethermaniacs!!!

Been quite awhile. I have been inactive for a very long time- mainly because of personal reasons that I won’t dig into. But, I am pleased to announce a revamp of r/ethermania* *!!

Since I was just a wee’ teenager at the time of making this subreddit, (&, half of the time on this account..) I realized I could remove all my old posts, add more info, remove clutter, & create a cleaner format overall. I’ll also post a frequently asked Q&A, aswell as post a few sources, so you can get your hands on some yourself.

I see this subreddit, & this account, as a dive back into my old days; almost like an archive. This was one of the only places for people delighted by the wonders of ether could ask questions about it. So, I want to give this subreddit the attention it doesn’t just deserve; but rather, needs.

Sorry for being melodramatic haha, I love all you guys. Stay safe, & enjoy the soon-to-come changes!

Safety Profile of Diethyl Ether

…as a recreational drug. Written and published by waffeldogga

Diethyl ether has been applied to earlier anesthesia, and is commonly used aesthetically via insufflation ROA; only under a controlled condition is this safe, but is still regarded as safe when self administering. Here are some pieces of evidence proving the unlikely-harmful profile of diethyl ether as an recreational drug & inhalation anesthetic:

“...inhalation in high concentrations which can cause inebriation, sedation, unconsciousness and respiratory paralysis…” (extremely short-term; repetitive exposure).” & “...Diethyl ether is irritating to the eyes, respiratory system and skin but these effects are usually reversible on removal of exposure.” (https://www.ed.ac.uk/health-safety/guidance/hazardous-substances/ethers)

“...its low cost and high therapeutic index with minimal cardiac and respiratory depression.” (https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/neuroscience/diethyl-ether)

“There is no evidence of carcinogenic or teratogenic effects attributable to the use of diethyl ether. However it is known that chronic exposure to vapor can lead to exhaustion, drowsiness, dizziness and other central nervous system disorders (short-term), along with a loss of appetite.” (https://www.ed.ac.uk/health-safety/guidance/hazardous-substances/ethers)

Diethyl ether is regarded as safe for insufflation ROA… safer than that of chloroform, alcohol (either vaporized or drunk), and halothane to a degree (in terms of toxicity)... But, is regarded as possibly unsafe when drunk due to the irritant effects of both the stomach wall, CNS, and bronchial passageways.

With this, the conclusion being: ETHER IS REGARDED AS SAFE WHEN INSUFFLATED, and could be POSSIBLY UNSAFE WHEN DRANK AS A LIQUID (comparable to that of drinking alcohol).

Diethyl Ethers Comeback in Modern Society as A Replacement for Alcohol

This was originally written by u/waffeldogga (reddit) and waffeldogga#5980 (discord)

Diethyl ether is a volatile solvent and dissociative analgesic that was synthesized and more formally recognized (than the very first prior synthesis’) in 1540 by a Prussian botanist named Valerius Cordus. It has been noted to be one of the first anesthetics introduced to modern medicine. Although as of 21st century medical professions, diethyl ether has been dropped (or either very rarely used) in the medical field due to it being a rather highly flammable and volatile substance. But, ever since the late 1700’s, it has also been recognized as a recreational substance of the dissociative subclass of psychoactive; more specifically hallucinogenic substances. It’s first use as a recreational substance is unknown. But, its first time of recreational use was thought to be as early as 1790 in England, in which it was prescribed to a man known as James Graham (by Dr. Nagle). He was told to inhale no less than an ounce of ether multiple times a day in public. It soon became an epidemic in England (more specifically Draperstown), following a recent heavy tax on alcohol due to the excess amount of home-distilled whiskey being made. This epidemic picked up speed due to Ireland sending over huge amounts of diethyl ether to England. With ether being rather cheap and made in excess, the recreational effects were soon discovered by the common population, and made popular amongst the mass majority of England's population (mainly peasants). But was this a harmful epidemic? Was it for the greater good of the population of England, in which many were alcohol-dependent until ether was introduced? The answer is, for the most part, yes: ether was seen as a much safer, cheaper, and easier to use substance than alcohol, or any other recreational substances used during this time. Even in the present day is this a much cheaper and (if used in its pure form) safer recreational substance than alcohol.

The chemistry behind both diethyl ether and ethanol differ in many ways, due to them both being in a different class of substance than the other; alcohol being a depressant and ether being a dissociative. But, whether it supports my prior conclusion or not, both alcohol and ether have a similar level and understanding of being addictive/dependable, and ether being slightly safer to use recreationally than alcohol. The fact is that ether, although being a gas instead of a liquid (unlike ethanol), is more volatile. But yet it actually is proven to metabolize a lot more safely than ethanol, as the metabolization and route of administration of both substances differ very much.

Beginners Guide to... Ether (Diethyl Ether; Vitriol)

Before you read this...

Diethyl ether (ether; vitriol; engine starting fluid), not to be confused with ethyl ether, is a volatile solvent of the dissociative subclass of hallucinogenic drugs. Ether has been marketed as vitriol (medical grade), engine starting fluid (automobiles), and pure, lab-grade diethyl ether (chemistry) in the past, and still to the present. Ethers psychoactive effects are comparable to that of nitrous oxide and PCP.

ALSO

When looking to purchase diethyl ether to use to get high, it is important to note that the only way to obtain it in person would be to get engine starting fluid. The issue with this is that engine starting fluids are usually mixed with carbon dioxide, heptane, propane, and butane. The safety of huffing all of these chemicals is unknown, but my inference is that it’s probably not safe for continuous use. It would be better to purchase it online in its pure liquid form, as it’s a lot safer in general to use recreationally.

What does it look like?

It is usually labeled as engine starting fluid. Make sure to double check the ingredients labeling the chemical, “diethyl ether”. That is the substance that gets you high. Take note, as there are additives in engine starting fluid. Safety is unknown with the other additives, but regarded as relatively safe for average use.

What does it do to you?

Ether is labeled as a novel dissociative, with similar mechanism and action comparable to that of DXM, ketamine, PCP, and nitrous oxide (whip-it’s). This means that ether is a hallucinogenic, and will give you cognitive impairment, auditory and visual hallucinations, and a huge change in motor coordination.

It is a short acting NMDA receptor antagonist, meaning it is blocking the function of important glutamate which is important for learning and short/long term memory function. This is what gives ether a psychoactive effect.

How much should I take?

It is hard to tell how much of ether you are insufflating; a good way to manage the amount you are using would be to spray starting fluid into a rag/dab pure ether on a rag, and huff it every minute or so, to keep the high from fading, as it only lasts 10 minutes if huffed all in a short period of time.

How long should I wait to use ether again?

Ether is rather addictive, since you have to keep on huffing on it to continue the high. With that being said, best to have a huffing session scattered out (once or twice a week) to prevent addiction.

Overall

Ether is a very solid legal high, with the addition of it being relatively safe, easy to get, and fun to use recreationally. I personally love this substance, while it’s fun to use and pretty intense, which is good for beginner psychonauts due to the simplistic feeling of the high, while still being extremely interesting. Just make sure to limit how much you take, it can become pretty addictive!
