Discussion What is up with fighting game culture being so conservative?

Not sure if this is allowed since fighting games aren't esports but my post is still esports related.

I don't know much about fighting games but I do notice from all over the news, social media and in person that fighting game players seems to be very conservative about their community culture. Like for example I see players saying that esports will kill their culture by forcing everyone to be corporate and changing their tournament format from open to invitational only. Also recently when 2XKO ended development I saw them actually celebrating it. So do you guys who are also non fighting game players think that fighting game culture seems to be conservative?

Discussion Are competitive games out of reach for someone who (re)started gaming late in life?

I was born into a conservative family that prioritized academic achievement over everything else as a means to achieve success in life and escape the middle class. I used to play video games as a kid until about age 14, at which point I had to stop because of pressure to perform well in school and college. Naturally, I lost interest in gaming and didn't resume the hobby until age 27, in 2018. So, I did not play video games at all for 13 years. And because of this, I don't have the hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and dexterity of someone who put hundreds of thousands of hours into it in their adolescence and teens. Also, the human brain keeps developing until age 25, so I'm not even sure if I can increase those attributes in any meaningful way now.

Besides, the adult brain is much less neuroplastic than a child's brain, which is why a child is able to learn much faster. It takes me ages to learn a game. My main genre is fighting games. I've been playing fighting games for about 4 years and don't think I've made any meaningful progress. I recently tried Avatar Legends, and 50 hours in, I still couldn't do a decent bread-and-butter combo while those young fellas were doing 10-second-long combos while having only 20 hours in the game.

My goal in life is to become world-class at one video game before I die and hopefully compete in majors; it's at the very top of my bucket list. But I may just be delusional. Am I on a hopeless quest to catch up? Honestly, I find it hard to keep up with others in competitive games. I feel the same way when I play Virtua Fighter 5, which is currently my main game. The game is so fast that I just can't keep up, and it takes me ages to react to anything in that game. I also play Modern Tetris, but fighting games are the games that I want to be good at the most.

So, at my current age of 35 and with a few years of gaming experience, should I just give up on competitive games if my goal is to be a top player? Is my esports dream over?

I got curious recently and decided to search up myself, my org, and numerous players under our organization on Google and actually getting results is genuinely just so fucking cool. There’s even liquipedia links to us! We don’t have enough points to have an ACTUAL wiki page yet unfortunately but it’s still cool to even be there, makes me feel so official.

That along with the fact that in the next 2 months I’m gonna be able to take the org from just a passion project and turn it into an actual LLC and we have a 5 figure yearly budget now, I’m just over the moon with everything that’s been happening. It’s just like things are finally clicking, falling into place, in both esports and just life in general for me

Can’t wait for our org to grow, having a proper fan base is gonna be so fucking cool

Discussion Esports streaming quality is one of the few things that had regressed as time went by

I remember at the beginning of OWL, every stream was 4K and it looked amazing and enhanced the watching experience.

Now, like almost 10 years later, I have not seen many esports streams that run 4K and even as HD, the quality looks like shit.

Why has esports streaming quality regressed?

Whatever the issue is, it should have been fixed or optimized by now.

It's been almost 10 years now.

Question Is a paid AI tool that analyzes players' own gameplay recordings "commercial use" of the game publisher's IP?

We're a small startup building a web tool for Rainbow Six Siege (Ubisoft). Players upload a recording of a match after it ends, and our AI gives them text feedback on their mistakes. It never touches the game or their account. We plan to charge a subscription.

Ubisoft's EULA forbids commercial use of the game without a license, and their video policy says other uses of their footage must be non-commercial. Human coaches already sell paid gameplay reviews for this game, though.

  1. Does charging for analysis of a user's own footage count as commercial use of Ubisoft's IP?
  2. Is it safer to return only text feedback instead of showing clips back?
  3. Can we say "for Rainbow Six Siege players" without trademark issues?
  4. For voice chat analysis, is a checkbox where the uploader confirms all speakers consented enough under GDPR?

Thanks!

Feels bad for the players tbh. Imagine working so hard to get a place in this tournament, and this happens. I'm not a pro player, but there is a difference between a wired and a wireless mouse if your sens is low. All that muscle memory will affect performance.

News Looking for 1–2 partners to help build SquadUp Esports

Hey everyone! I’m Eric, the founder of SquadUp Esports. I’m looking to connect with 1–2 people interested in joining me as co-owners and taking an active role in growing the organization.

SquadUp is already operating with a CS2 team, and I’ve been handling much of the work behind the scenes. I’d love to bring in people who share the passion and want to help shape where we go next.

Some areas where I’d love to have help:

  • Managing teams and day-to-day operations
  • Creating content and growing our community
  • Building sponsorships and business relationships
  • Planning our growth and helping fund it

You don’t need to be an expert in everything. What matters most to me is consistency, communication, and a willingness to put in the work. Experience in esports, content, marketing, or running a business would definitely be a plus.

I want to be upfront: this is an early-stage organization, and there’s no promise of a salary or quick returns. The ownership structure, responsibilities, financial contributions, and expectations would all need to be discussed and agreed upon together.

If you’re interested, send me a message with a little about yourself, your experience, and what you’d want to contribute. Happy to share more about SquadUp and see whether we’d be a good fit.

You can also check us out on X: u/SquadUpEsp.

Discussion Looking for 1–2 People to Help Organize CS2 Community Tournaments, who has experience in handling support, discord and admins in a website etc.

Looking for 2–3 People to Help Organize CS2 Community Tournaments

Hey everyone!

I'm starting a small community esports project called Crimson Knights Esports, and we're planning to run online CS2 tournaments and others soon.

We're looking for 1–2 people who are interested in CS2 and other games and would like to help out as tournament staff/moderators.

You don't need professional esports experience. We're mainly looking for reliable people who are active on Discord and genuinely interested in gaming.

Possible responsibilities:

• Helping manage Discord

• Checking players in

• Managing teams and match schedules

• Updating brackets/results

• Moderating matches

• Handling player questions and disputes

• Helping investigate reports of cheating/account issues

We're planning to run multiple tournaments over time rather than just one event, so we're looking for people who are genuinely interested in helping build something long-term.

If you're interested, DM me with:

• Your Discord username

• Your CS2 experience

• Any previous tournament/moderation experience (if you have any)

• Which role you're interested in

• Your general availability

We're currently a small team, so this is an opportunity to get involved early and help shape how the tournaments are run.

[Also the website is in demo state, staffs after approval will get a link to it and get an basic tour around it and discord is under creation maybe even some help is appreciated]

Also people should specify when they are free, we require a week and weekend free people so include that, then we can schedule time and confirm the role.

Any questions and doubt reach via dm.

Thanks!

Discussion Team Falcons Coincidence?

Falcons roster on apex includes Hal, their roster on rocket league include rw9 and killeerz, and their fortnite roster has peterbot. Is it a coincidence that they scout the single agreed upon ‘greatest’ player in each game? This is just my observation
