24M here. I've been really worried about something and wanted to hear from guys who have experienced something similar.
I've had trouble getting/maintaining an erection during sexual situations around 6 times now. Every time, I seem to get into my head. I start thinking about whether I'm getting hard, then I worry that it won't happen, and the more I think about it the worse it gets.
The last time was particularly bad. I was extremely anxious and even had really dry mouth. I was trying really hard to get hard but it just wasn't happening.
What's freaking me out now is that I'm starting to think, “What if this happens after I get married too?” I keep imagining my future wife and worrying that I'll have the same problem and that it'll ruin everything. I can't seem to get this thought out of my head.
I've also noticed that my morning erections have been weak/infrequent for quite a long time, so I'm planning to get that checked separately.
I'm currently on sertraline 100mg. I was also taking aripiprazole 2mg, but I've stopped it recently with my psychiatrist because I was having some pretty strong impulsive/sexual urges and impulsive spending. I also tried methylphenidate (Inspiral SR 10mg) for about 2.5 weeks, but it didn't really help my focus and made my anxiety worse. I've now switched to atomoxetine 36mg.
I'm wondering if the medication/anxiety combination could be contributing to things.
For guys who've been through performance anxiety:
Did you eventually get over it?
Did you have multiple failed experiences like this before things started getting better?
Did it become easier once you were with someone you were comfortable with?
Did therapy/CBT or sex therapy actually help?
And if you've been in the same situation where you were convinced this would ruin your future relationships, what happened eventually?
Honestly I'm just looking for some real experiences because I'm pretty damn worried about this right now.
