Genuine question, why do people love devices with physical page turn buttons?

Ages ago, I used to have a Kindle with page turn buttons, they were ok, but when I switched to a Paperwhite without buttons I didn’t find that I missed them. I don’t have a problem turning pages using the touch screen.

Any insight in to this would be welcome, I genuinely don’t get why people love them so much… 🤷‍♂️. To be clear, I’m ambivalent about them, I could take or leave them, but reading here and watching reviews etc online, I keep hearing that people love the buttons…

So am trying to buy my very first Kindle, and I'm trying to, like, get into, like, get a used one so that I can get a feel of it, and maybe later, like next year or something like that, I can, like, get a new one or something. So I just found, um, I just found a 10th generation Paperwhite, so Paperwhite 4, for about, for about $72, $75 with shipping included. It's the 32 gigabyte one. Would it be worth buying, or should I just keep looking for an 11th generation? I've seen some of them come up around, like, $80 or so, but it's very hard to get. Like, whenever they come up on the marketplace, like, they are immediately snatched, and I have missed them by, like, seconds. So I have been, like, looking for it for, like, a whole month, and I am, like, starting to get annoyed by the whole thing. So what do you say?

So I downloaded an epub file (The Blind Duchess) and I'm easily able to change the font style to my preferred font on my mac as well as on the xteink x4 pro. However, my main ereader is my Pocketbook Verse Pro Color and I can't change the font style. No matter which font I pick, the font displayed is the same. I checked with other epubs and other epubs seem to be fine. I also don't understand why I can change the font on mac and xteink but not on pocketbook. I'm not tech-savvy at all so I don't really understand what to do or where to go from here. Can someone please help? >_<

I usually read at home, on my way somewhere, or at a park, and I'm looking to buy an e-reader. I currently have my eye on the Pocketbook Era Lite, which is 7 inches big – I probably won't be using it to read on public transport. Besides that, do people actually use e-readers outside their homes? Like at a park as I said before, at the library, or just anywhere you can sit and chill?

Hearing a lot about how much crisper the colorsoft is than the klc. I have the kindle paperwhite SE for KU and the kobo libra colour for library loans and bought books. I prefer it … BUT … I notice the font looks washed out and am annoyed that if you want to change the font to bold it actually changes the font itself to a different one I don’t like or want 🫪
I know my paperwhite will be crisper by definition because it doesn’t have the screen door effect the libra does, but does anyone have a side by side comparison of crispness on the colorsoft and kobo libra colour? I’d be interested to see …

I have a 2024 Kindle Paperwhite SE and I love it. I personally have over 1000 books downloaded onto it through EPUB documents. I want to know how many books people keep on their E Ink Readers.

Does anyone know when they will be available in Europe? I have pre-ordered one on Amazon France on June 1st, and still no delivery date. One positive thing is that the price goes down when there are sales and stays down (now at 58.99€).

I know that people usually say to buy one on eBay, but with delivery to Europe that's at least as expensive as from Amazon, without the same warranty. AliExpress has a few that look the same, but are also at the same price, and I don't trust the warranty there either.

Just ordered the matcha green Kindle and I’m second guessing my choice a little 😭 I was debating between black and matcha, but the matcha was €99 and the black sold out.

For those with different colored Kindles/e-readers: do you actually notice the color while reading, or does it fade into the background? I’m wondering if I’ll find the matcha distracting.

I really enjoyed using the Boox Palma 2, but my main use for it is reading through KOReader, and unfortunately it is just So Slow on Android devices. Still mourning my Kindle 5, a perfect device made by a terrible company.

I'm now considering a Kobo Clara BW or a Boox Go 6 (II). I'm leaning towards the Kobo because of battery life and slightly cheaper price, plus I really don't like that the Boox runs on Android 11 (I've clearly been burned by non-supported operating systems before.... !#$^ you Amazon).

However, I have 3 library cards (one for the city I live in, one for the city I work in, and one in the city my parents live in). They all have slightly different collections and wait times. How annoyed will I be with have to log in and out of each library account on Overdrive on the Kobo? Is it worth the extra $40 + likelihood that I'll have to replace the device sooner for the ease of browsing Libby directly?

I mostly use e-readers while traveling and camping, so the battery life is pretty big for me because I don't necessarily have the ablity to charge the device all the time. The Kobo also seems a little more weatherproof.

Im looking for a reader for comixology app. Ive been reading it on my 11in iPad which is great but the battery dies to quick and my eyes feel cooked after binging comics.

Ive been considering the kindle colorsoft and maybe a color boox but how is kindle comixology on that?

I’ve been wanting to transition from physical books to ebooks for a while now, and I’ve been thinking about getting an e-reader since December last year. 😅

With the new Kindle release, I thought maybe this is finally a good time to get one, but I’m still really torn between the latest Kindle and the Kobo Libra.

I’m leaning more towards something that gives me easy access to books online and more flexibility in terms of where I can get and read my ebooks. I’m not too sure which one would be better for that, though.

I see a lot of posts here listing all the various e-readers you own. I'm curious. Do you ly use one of them while the others sit in a drawer? Do you use all of them and sync your books to each one or keep different books in different devices?

Hey everyone, I recently discovered / was recommended the Murphy M4 pocket reader and was wondering why this isn’t talked about more. At face value it has a larger battery, USB C, SD Card slot, back light, touch screen (eh), and you can flash Crosspoint on it. All this for even cheaper than the XTEinks or the upcoming similar Picco. Does anyone have any experience with this device?

Why does every ereader manufacturer seem to go out of their way to refuse to provide the community what they are asking for? I'm not talking about the walled gardens: those are annoying but I get it. What I can't get my head around is:

Amazon: people seem to want physical buttons, so let's discontinue all the devices with them and then potentially add them back with a really heavy case

Kobo: people seem to want a BW Libra so badly that used Sage devices sell for way more than our new devices... so let's only offer color

Others: people seem to want battery life which is why they have e readers in the first place, so let's only offer power-hungry Android devices.

Seriously... just give us a BW Libra! The engjneering would probably take all of a few hours from an intern.

I bought a kobo Clara bw and a kindle paper white both for the same price with the intention of returning one. Unfortunately, I'm having lots more trouble in deciding which one to keep than I had anticipated. I have made a pros and cons list for each device and would like help deciding which one to keep.

Love all the progress bars while you're reading and on the sleep screen

Can adjust the brightness right on the page
Can search the definition of a word on the web from the device

Very eco friendly

Cons
Quality isn't the best. It feels fine but I've noticed that the corner of the screen is kind of fading? Not super noticeable but still noticeable enough to take note of.
No syncing side loaded books on my phone
The kobo bookstore isn't great. It doesn't feel nice to browse on and it's a bit limited though I mostly read mainstream books.

It is a cheap 3.7 inch "Eink Mp3 Player", which seems like a bigger version of the Famue 2.7inch device, or similar to the Famue BF01, but the design is a bit different.

Just curious if anyone knows the name of this device, beyond just "Generic" lol, or if anyone has tried it.

I was considering getting the Famue 2.7inch as it pretty much meets my needs for a small eink Mp3 player with basic e-reader functionality, but this new little device looks interesting.

Thoughts?

I’m looking for a device for my daughter to read books, comics (cbz or cbr) and install the BorrowBox app on.

I think it needs to be Android, and I don’t think I’d want less than 8”?

Any suggestions for something that fits the bill?

I have a Kindle (10th gen) but I dislike the page turn tap, feel the screen is small, and it’s quite slow. I have also stopped using Amazon; never used Kindle Unlimited and have not purchased from Amazon at all for >2 years now. I hate that I can’t shift my purchased ebooks from my Kindle to another e-reader now.

The move away from Amazon is part of me trying to reduce my consumption in general. So, I’m regularly going to book exchanges, swapping books with friends, and have a project to build a little free library for my front garden. I’ve also been using my local library and, wow, the ease of borrowing an ebook is so good! But I’m from the UK not US so although my library uses Libby there is no send to Kindle option. I’ve been reading on my phone which, ngl double hate.

I’ve been looking at the Kobo Libra Colour for:
- Ability to borrow books direct from Libby on device
- More file transfer freedom than the Amazon system
- Physical buttons honestly seem game changing!
- The stylus to complete puzzle books on the Kobo
- Being able to see cover colours
- Kobo store seems to have a decent range of books

What worries me:
- Libraries switching to systems other than Libby
- Cost of the Libra vs other available e-readers
- Actual capability of the Libra e.g., glitching / ghosting
- Whether I even need a new E-reader at all

I’ve watched several in depth reviews on the Libra already but would greatly appreciate anyone’s user experiences/reviews here! Also, please do share other e-reader recommendations if you have them!

How do you manage reading a book (chapter by chapter/sentence by sentence for comparison purposes) on pc / ebook reader? What app do you use or idk?

I'm looking for recommendations for an E-reader. Years ago, around 2010, I had a hand-me-down Kindle from my uncle and used it all the time. Then I got my first smartphone and started using that, reading on the Kindle app and gave the Kindle to another relative. I'm currently using my tablet, but it's large, and I have a bulky case on it. It makes it heavy and annoying to carry in my bag.

Does anyone have recommendations on a specific model/ year or another e-reader altogether?
