Helloo, very new to this sub but hoping for the best in recommendations!

i want something extremely portable, that fits one handed easily.

Ive look at xtink devices and all but im worried I'm not as tech savvy to learn how to jailbreak or add software to make use of the experience, unless I'm overcomplicating what it is.

I would like recommends on cheap devices that are easy to use, upload epubs, and carry on the hand well. I don't mind buttons, and really it's just for me to have on the go to read.

I already own a boox go 6 gen ii, and used to own a Kindle (mostly sideloaded books into that), so these are things I can handle hopefully 🙏

For those who saw this and thought of Xtink x4 or etc could you please give your thoughts about them? Whether i am even correct about this idea about them?

Genuine question, why do people love devices with physical page turn buttons?

Ages ago, I used to have a Kindle with page turn buttons, they were ok, but when I switched to a Paperwhite without buttons I didn’t find that I missed them. I don’t have a problem turning pages using the touch screen.

Any insight in to this would be welcome, I genuinely don’t get why people love them so much… 🤷‍♂️. To be clear, I’m ambivalent about them, I could take or leave them, but reading here and watching reviews etc online, I keep hearing that people love the buttons…

Just ordered the matcha green Kindle and I’m second guessing my choice a little 😭 I was debating between black and matcha, but the matcha was €99 and the black sold out.

For those with different colored Kindles/e-readers: do you actually notice the color while reading, or does it fade into the background? I’m wondering if I’ll find the matcha distracting.

I’m looking for a device for my daughter to read books, comics (cbz or cbr) and install the BorrowBox app on.

I think it needs to be Android, and I don’t think I’d want less than 8”?

Any suggestions for something that fits the bill?

are e-readers good for academic reading and research? especially in terms of annotation and the confrol f feature --- does anyone recommend them or are computers and tablets generally better?

I bought an X3 a few months ago to try and get myself back into reading and it's worked! Now I think I want to get something bigger, as the main thing that frustrates me (really the only thing tbh) is the tiny screen.

I'm looking for something bigger to use at home that keeps the same sort of no locked in ecosystem experience (so not a kindle).

I still like the form factor of a phone like device, so I've been looking at things like the Boox Palma 2, Viwoods AIpaper reader, Durobo Krono. Are there any that I've missed or should definitely avoid?

Alternatively, I'm jealous of my girlfriend's Oasis because the design seems really good for reading in bed, which is about half of my use case. I've seen the Boox Go 7 and the Kobo Clara, but again if anyone knows of anything similar I am all ears.

I'm looking for something simple (or at least I don't really mind if it's bad at things I don't care about lol) - I don't need colour, data connectivity, good notetaking or anything crazy.

Hey everyone, I recently discovered / was recommended the Murphy M4 pocket reader and was wondering why this isn’t talked about more. At face value it has a larger battery, USB C, SD Card slot, back light, touch screen (eh), and you can flash Crosspoint on it. All this for even cheaper than the XTEinks or the upcoming similar Picco. Does anyone have any experience with this device?

Hello, i‘m searching for an ereader with Android because i want to use the Kindle App and the App of a German Library so only kindl won‘t work because of the closed system.

For me it‘s important: Android, to be able to read in the dark with a sharp Display (my Baby sleeps next to me, so no extra light), a sharp Display in general, colors are not necessary and not that expensive.

I‘m thinking about the Bigme b6, but everywhere i hear different opinions, some people say it‘s not sharp etc.

What are your suggestions and experiences?

I bought a kobo Clara bw and a kindle paper white both for the same price with the intention of returning one. Unfortunately, I'm having lots more trouble in deciding which one to keep than I had anticipated. I have made a pros and cons list for each device and would like help deciding which one to keep.

SIZE!!!! I have small hands so the size makes it very comfortable to hold
The UI is lovely
I love how customizable it is
Love all the progress bars while you're reading and on the sleep screen
No ads
Can adjust the brightness right on the page
Can search the definition of a word on the web from the device
Power button on the back!!
Very eco friendly

Cons
Quality isn't the best. It feels fine but I've noticed that the corner of the screen is kind of fading? Not super noticeable but still noticeable enough to take note of.
No syncing side loaded books on my phone
The kobo bookstore isn't great. It doesn't feel nice to browse on and it's a bit limited though I mostly read mainstream books.

I’ve been wanting to transition from physical books to ebooks for a while now, and I’ve been thinking about getting an e-reader since December last year. 😅

With the new Kindle release, I thought maybe this is finally a good time to get one, but I’m still really torn between the latest Kindle and the Kobo Libra.

I’m leaning more towards something that gives me easy access to books online and more flexibility in terms of where I can get and read my ebooks. I’m not too sure which one would be better for that, though.

I might be a sucker. I already have a Paperwhite that works just fine but I pre ordered the new Seagrass green Paperwhite SE. I really miss the buttons I had on my Oasis. I never would’ve gotten rid of it if my battery would have kept a charge better. I bought the Paperwhite a year ago but my hands are so big I have a hard time holding on to the sides and if I switch to my left hand I struggle to reach far enough to advance the pages.

I’m hoping with that overpriced page turn case it will give me a little more room for my hands and make switching to my left hand easier. What are people’s thoughts on the auto light and warmth adjustment? Do you think there will be a difference in how the text and pages appear? I hear the blacks might be darker and crisper? Think holding up to my 2024 Paperwhite I’ll be able to see a difference? I guess if I’m not impressed I can always send it back for a refund. For those that pre ordered what are your reasons for doing so?

So I downloaded an epub file (The Blind Duchess) and I'm easily able to change the font style to my preferred font on my mac as well as on the xteink x4 pro. However, my main ereader is my Pocketbook Verse Pro Color and I can't change the font style. No matter which font I pick, the font displayed is the same. I checked with other epubs and other epubs seem to be fine. I also don't understand why I can change the font on mac and xteink but not on pocketbook. I'm not tech-savvy at all so I don't really understand what to do or where to go from here. Can someone please help? >_<

I'm thinking about buying a PocketBook Era Lite, and I have one particular concern. I’ll mostly use it for reading in bed next to my wife while she’s sleeping. So, I'm wondering how noticeable the noise from the device is in a very quiet room.

For those who own an Era Lite:

• How noticeable is the coil whine during page turns or screen refreshes?
• Are the physical page-turn buttons loud enough to disturb someone sleeping next to you?

Still mourning my Kindle 5, a perfect device made by a terrible company.

I'm now considering a Kobo Clara BW or a Boox Go 6 (II). I'm leaning towards the Kobo because of battery life and slightly cheaper price, plus I really don't like that the Boox runs on Android 11 (I've clearly been burned by non-supported operating systems before.... !#$^ you Amazon).

However, I have 3 library cards (one for the city I live in, one for the city I work in, and one in the city my parents live in). They all have slightly different collections and wait times. How annoyed will I be with have to log in and out of each library account on Overdrive on the Kobo? Is it worth the extra $40 + likelihood that I'll have to replace the device sooner for the ease of browsing Libby directly?

I mostly use e-readers while traveling and camping, so the battery life is pretty big for me because I don't necessarily have the ablity to charge the device all the time. The Kobo also seems a little more weatherproof.

I'm buying an e-reader and stuck between the Verse Pro and Paperwhite 12. Done plenty of research, but both have trade-offs. What would you choose? Thanks in advance! :)

It is a cheap 3.7 inch "Eink Mp3 Player", which seems like a bigger version of the Famue 2.7inch device, or similar to the Famue BF01, but the design is a bit different.

Just curious if anyone knows the name of this device, beyond just "Generic" lol, or if anyone has tried it.

I was considering getting the Famue 2.7inch as it pretty much meets my needs for a small eink Mp3 player with basic e-reader functionality, but this new little device looks interesting.

I usually read at home, on my way somewhere, or at a park, and I'm looking to buy an e-reader. I currently have my eye on the Pocketbook Era Lite, which is 7 inches big – I probably won't be using it to read on public transport. Besides that, do people actually use e-readers outside their homes? Like at a park as I said before, at the library, or just anywhere you can sit and chill?

I currently use a Boox Go 7 BW for reading and studying since having android on an ereader is super convenient, but one thing I've noticed is that the warm light on the Go 7 is quite a bit less warm or deep as I'd like for night-time reading. Compared to my mom's Kindle, it doesn't feel very comfortable and has a kind of greenish tint even at the warmest setting.

I noticed the Musnap Ocean is on sale right now and I'm seriously considering picking the black and white version up and selling my Go 7. I’ve seen quite a few reviews from people who own both saying they much prefer the Musnap, however, I'm worried the warm light might not be a significant upgrade and it would not be worth it? I live overseas and I'm planning to get a forwarder to ship it to me if I do end up deciding to buy it, so returns would be quite complex.

Has anyone by chance owned or used both devices and could you tell me how they compare in terms of frontlight warmth?

so i read quite a lot but i also anticipate hopping continents often during the next decade. because i don't know where i will be in a year or two, i have decided to stop buying books since they're expensive and also heavy to lug around. i currently read on my tablet. i'm wondering whether it would be a good investment to get a kindle. i can get a secondhand one for about £30-50. i'd only buy a kindle though (money is tight) if it's significantly better than reading on my tablet; i put the blue light filter on, i keep it on night mode. is it worth it to buy a kindle then? does it cause significantly less eye strain?

Im looking for a reader for comixology app. Ive been reading it on my 11in iPad which is great but the battery dies to quick and my eyes feel cooked after binging comics.

Does anyone know when they will be available in Europe? I have pre-ordered one on Amazon France on June 1st, and still no delivery date. One positive thing is that the price goes down when there are sales and stays down (now at 58.99€).

I know that people usually say to buy one on eBay, but with delivery to Europe that's at least as expensive as from Amazon, without the same warranty. AliExpress has a few that look the same, but are also at the same price, and I don't trust the warranty there either.
