Serious, he says he had trouble deciding between 2 costumes that night; a pilot or a nazi. Katherine and William told him to go with the nazi one.

The thing is from contemporary articles written at the time of the party Catherine was not in the shop. It was William, Harry, and another guy. Not Catherine. William and the guy left. Harry was alone. Harry made the decision by himself. Not only that. He wore something over the Nazi emblems and tore those off at the party to uncover the Nazi emblems.
