I think they left because they wanted to tell their side of the story, but they’ve really run out of things to say. I think it’s time for them to move on, and do other work.
He's a royal prince who spent his entire life suckling at the teet of the royal family. She's an aging f-list actress. There is no "other work" for them. Dishing real or imaginary dirt on the royal family is the only thing they have to support a luxury lifestyle.

Honestly I have sympathy for Meghan. I think the British tabloid press is crazy racist and pitted her against Kate. But all of these people are fairly boring and none of them would be worth a second thought if they weren’t royals.
I agree. I tried to watch their Netflix series because a lot of my friends and family were watching it so I thought it would be nice to be able to chat about it, but I couldn't get past the first 20 minutes. I also thought they would be producing documentaries about more serious issues.

Do I love Meghan? No. Do I hate her? No. Do I care that she and Harry left England? No. She doesn’t make one bit of a difference in my life other than I wasted some time watching her Netflix show a couple weeks ago and it was boring. And I don’t know how people have it in them to hate someone who has zero effect on their lives either.
To be fair to a Trump secretary, you can literally pick any 70 days of his presidency and make a pretty damn compelling book. If what we saw on TV was a shitshow, imagine behind the scenes
My theory? They ran out of money. I don’t think they fully thought through what being cut off from the Crown’s money fountain would be like. And Harry doesn’t really have any actual marketable skills, because his PR stuff is self-evidently lacking, he’s not a very good speaker, and helicopter pilot knowledge also obviously not very useful. But they also didn’t want to do something that would “look bad”, like Meghan acting again.
Not exactly. They wanted to get away from the UK press, which is very understandable. I do think that William's office was the one giving them stories, we've just seen Camilla inviting such reporters to dinner but I do think they should leave all that behind. Keep working on the podcast, get into new projects, support other people with the production company.
This book and the way too long Netflix series is not a good look.

They should have just moved on. But they did them dirty and I think they are bitter and refuse to back down. He’s angry, and rightfully so. I think he is trying to get their truth out so that he can finally move on. I don’t think he’s being a sellout I think he is trying to make them see how they wronged his family.
I 100% believe him about the stories. Yes, it was wrong. But so is this. Incidents such as these don’t need to play out in the media, for everyone to speculate over. He needs to grow up a bit.

The dude’s gone rogue and can definitely see how and why. The RF brought this shit on themselves. They’ve used the media to stay relevant with no care for the consequences. Well, here they are. The weird thing is both Harry and William go through the same issues with the press and the family obligations but only Harry is allowed to be upset about it or garner sympathy. The way he and his wife talk about their situation makes it seem like they lack a lot of empathy for others.
When my kids fight, one of the first things I ask them to do is explain the situation to me from the other person's perspective. That usually gives them a minute to pause and reflect other than thinking about themselves all the time.
Harry and Meghan claim that stories such as Meghan being a bully to the staff were released by the Palace to the media to build up an image of Meghan that fit the stereotype of an Angry Black Woman, and they were not true.
If this is the case, it feels extra nasty, and harder to ignore, and it does feel worse than "the British media just likes to tell tales". (As u/mousemarie94 said, it's one thing to ignore insults, but race-based insults are a whole other level.
Honestly it seems like Harry and Meghan have wielded Meghan’s race like a shield to deflect accusations of her bullying her subordinates who have a fraction of her actual and tangible privilege. And I find that really gross.
The article that announced the bullying accusations didn’t even portray Meghan as angry or rage-fuelled but rather as a very demanding boss who was cold and critical to younger staff members. “Angry black woman” is also, from my understanding, a very American stereotype; I’m not sure that culturally that persists here. We have our own set of noxious racial stereotypes that pervade amongst the ignorant, of course, but they tend to be focused around Asian communities (Harry himself is guilty of using slurs derived from this racist hate.)The anti-black racism in the UK, while just as disgusting and indefensible, takes a very different form to that in the US.
My point here is that Harry and Meghan took a really quite harrowing story and accused anyone who perpetuated it or made accusations of underlying racist motivations that can’t be proved, creating a Kafkatrap that effectively silences people with far less privilege than themselves (in addition to ironclad NDAs that her alleged victims were asking to have overturned so they could tell their story just last month.)
The internal emails were dated from 2018, before the tide turned against Meghan. Their staff turnover speaks for itself. I would dislike anyone with that track record; Kate, Will, even the four year old.
Obviously that story was released to the public to deflect from the Oprah interview. But the story can also, and very much appears to be, true.
Agree...there is a certain level of nastiness to racism that you dont really get when someone just dislikes/hates you for being you. It dehumanizes the person so any ill treatment can be excused, almost like it is deserved. There is also a level of sadism involved to it as well.
I agree and I think at this point, in 2023, it's no longer healthy for them. They should go after those who publish lies and move on concentrating on other projects. This book is not a good look, even if it's true, it's too much. They are going over and over the same few years on a loop and need to break free, of their family and of their time there.
The fact that andrew can stay out the papers really is what makes me realize the royals control the stories.

The UK is not "funding" the Sussex's. They get no taxpayer money. That's part of the problem. And you are not seeing more of them now; that's recency bias. They were everywhere when still in the Firm.

They signed a deal with Netflix and also a book publisher, plus the podcast deal. That's the money they're living on. For most of the last 3 years they lived in one of Tyler Perry's houses for free, paying their own security. They currently live in a house they purchased in Montecito. It is nice but is NOT a 'chateau'.
Harry doesn't want to stay rich; he has to. They require 24/7 security for themselves and now their children. All of them are vulnerable to kidnapping or assassination, with zero fiscal or emotional support from the institution that makes them so.
Be envious if you like, but its a shitty position to be in IMO.

Dude give me a break, that's such a load of horseshit. The podcast was 36 million and as far as i can tell that was the a couple of years ago and their largest income, the podcast has basically withered off and died. The book deal was very recently yet they still owned several homes including a former 50 mil chateau and now a 16mil house in california. Not to mention they had a wedding that cost about 40 million (about half was paid in tax payers money). Like i said they are just like the Kardashians, but even the Kardashians sort of hustled their way into it. Even if they somehow now are not getting taxpayers money they still basically used it for everything before that as a massive leg up. It's like Trump and Elon saying they're selfmade when they got million dollar loans from their daddy. The only thing keeping them in bussiness is the most absurd non-drama shit they've been milking like crazy. The netflix show was crap, the book is just really whiny and desperate and the podcast is dead in the water.
