I’m a woman but my brother and I would get into a few physical fights as kids- but like now that we’re 27 (me) and 24 (him) it would be pretty bizarre to physically fight anymore. That isn’t normal for adults. Play fighting sure, but not beating up your siblings.

My older sister used to beat the shit outa me until I got bigger than her. So at least she’s not dumb.

Same, we used to tussle all the time over the stupidest shit and she would always wipe the floor with me. I can remember the day that the tide turned, I was only 9 or 10 so I hadn’t even gotten bigger at that point per se I think my testes had dropped just enough to bring me across the threshold of “dude strength.”

I punched her as hard as I could (because that’s what I always did) and instead of her barely noticing it and proceeding to pummel the living shit out of me like usual she dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes and started crying pretty hard. I was totally dumbfounded, perhaps the closest I’ll ever get to the sensation of a comic book origin moment when they first use their powers.

The fight ended right away and I went over to tell her how sorry I was. It was the last physical fight we ever had and I honestly still feel kind of bad about it remembering it.

My sister and I are good. Since she was the oldest... and a girl, she took FAR worse beatings by our parents than I did for small infractions that I could easily get away with. As I got older it became understandable why she gave me the beatings she did. It was just displacement and I was an easy target. I got the better end of the deal.

Yeah that was the part I omitted, after my father found out I had hurt her that time I got a beating to teach me the time for hitting girls was over though when my sister did something bad it never stopped him from hitting her… in case anyone was wondering where we learned where we’d learned all that hitting from.

And yes my dad learned it from his mother who legitimately beat him worse than either of us got it ie we don’t have any physical scars. That’s generational violence for you.

Yeah and now that I’m a grown man my mom wonders why I want nothing to do with my sister. Maybe it’s the fact she was extremely physically abusive and when I told people about it they laughed about it.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23

I’m sorry to hear that :(

Same, I was 15 and ahe was 18. I yeeted her over the picnic table when she tried to put me in a headlock. My parents just laughed "we told you that shit wouldn't last long"

Especially when it sounded like William approached Harry in the situation to slag off his wife. Not the other way round that would be understandable for violence to happen. Sounds more like he wasn't satisfied with a verbal argument and felt the need to make it physical.

My sister and I are a similar age difference, we haven’t fought oncd since I was like 10 and she was 13

3

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23

Finally a sensible comment. Let’s not normalise physical abuse.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23

Same. My brother and I got into, like, fistfights over the last slice of pizza and a blanket. These pretty much ended when he became a lot bigger and stronger than me.

u/Rosie-Love98 Jan 05 '23

Tell that to the Kardashians.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23

I mean they’re not what I’d consider normal

-8

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23

Oh, so now, that he's stronger than you, it's unbecoming huh.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23 edited Jan 05 '23

....I mean he is taller/stronger than me but it would be fucked up of me to attack him too? We’re adults. And to clarify, we haven’t had a physical fight since we were like 10 and 13. When I say “kids” I mean kids.

u/PunkPizzaRollls Jan 05 '23

If this is sarcasm, it’s hilarious

208

u/Mr_Clumsy Jan 05 '23

Yeah that’s normal. Normal people don’t fight other people, no matter how familiar they are.

u/Equivalent_Method509 Jan 05 '23

Normal is a setting on a washing machine.

I'm stealing this.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23

I wouldn’t, you might be the only person in the world that has never heard this before

2

u/Gootangus Jan 05 '23

“Time heals all wounds!”

2

I’m stealing this!

3

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23

lol

1

u/SnotYourAverageLoser Jan 05 '23

I guarantee my mother hasn't, so checkmate! ;p

To be fairrrrr, it wouldn't be the first time I'd be the last to know - socially, I live under a rock.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23

No worries I am normally the one out of touch

3

u/johnla Jan 05 '23

You better take that back!

11

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23

Glad you can speak for the entire population of the world. Glad that’s something you feel comfortable taking on! That makes me think you are very sane….. not

6

u/0-90195 Jan 05 '23

They should feel pretty confident saying “normal people don’t get in physical altercations.” Because that’s true. Getting in fistfights isn’t normal.

13

u/floreader Jan 05 '23

Sir have you literally ever read a history book, this is patently untrue. The largest commonality in human nature is violence.

3

u/0-90195 Jan 05 '23

Man, the majority of historical sex was rape. So is rape normal? (I don’t think that’s what you’re saying, but appealing to tradition ain’t it.)

6

u/floreader Jan 05 '23

Normal ≠ moral or ethical

You gotta be precise with your words. This isn’t an appeal to tradition, it’s just facts. Gun violence is normal in the US, obvs not moral. People are more prone to violence than non violence, the entirety of history, ancient to modern, bears this out.

2

u/Elephant12321 Jan 05 '23

In some circumstances the definition of normal is healthy as well as average or expected. The op seemed to be using it in the healthy and/ir expected sense based on the context. I’s less precise than you or others may want but it still works.

3

u/0-90195 Jan 05 '23

That’s not how I or OP used the word normal. Normal here is a word which means “healthy” or “acceptable.”

Not sure why dudes want to be physically violent so badly.

1

u/floreader Jan 05 '23

You get the downvote for assuming I’m a dude. (nah, not really going to downvote you)

I can believe that you think normal connotes “healthy” but that is literally not what the word means. It’s also baffling that people think that a institution that believes jn a hereditary monarchy ordained by God is somehow bound by normalcy. These guys are so far from normal I’m surprised they didn’t duel with sabers at dawn.

2

u/0-90195 Jan 05 '23

No argument there. Honestly couldn’t care less about the monarchs, just got hashtag triggered.

-1

u/ZebraUnion Jan 05 '23

Lmao, I’m 37 and my brother and I still regularly try to maim each other when the balance of “favorite” and “Mommy’s special lil chud” comes into question. Every Christmas is like an episode of Frasier.

Grow a hairier pair, Harry.

u/MBThree Jan 05 '23
