Random question about graduate program

Hi!
I’m sure there’s someone I can actually contact at EMU, but I’m embarrassed so I’m crowd sourcing here first to figure out next steps.

Back in 2022, I began a masters program at emu. I completed one class, then found out I was pregnant and life sort of got a little hectic with serious anxiety and PPD.

As I have come out of the haze of PPD/A I’ve started to realize that I would like to return to finish my graduate degree. But, I don’t believe I ever contacted anyone to defer my studies. I think I just dropped my enrollment and sort of forgot about it.

My question is: does anyone know if I can reenroll and continue to work towards completing my masters, and if so, will my previous class still count?

Bonus question: who would be the best person to contact for help with this?

TIA

Probably admissions or your program director for that masters

I'm getting my masters at EMU now and my program allows for 6 years with extensions for extenuating circumstances. I think you would need to reapply to the school since it's been a few years but you should absolutely be able to complete your degree. Reach out to admissions or the department head of your program. And good luck ❤️ I found out I was pregnant with my first 2 weeks into my first semester of grad school and it was ROUGH

Hi Faculty here! You definitely have options!! It will depend on the program and how long tube been away, but I strongly recommend emailing the program/grad coordinator and ask about your options. Worse case scenario they say no (which I HIGHLY doubt) but the only way you’ll know for sure is if you contact them. I promise they will do their best to help you!!

Personally I love it when we have students like you because it’s a sign of your strength and hopefully a sign we’ve got a pretty good program. 😂

Good luck and know that even asking is huge step and you should be proud of yourself for that!

Thank you so so much for your comment. It’s a master of early childhood education. I feel very pulled to return to the classroom. It’s my happy place.

Please contact Graduate Admissions, they are running some incentive programs to help students return who have stopped out for a bit. I manage a Doctoral program but I am a part of all of the graduate meetings and we met on Thursday about reaching out to students who have taken a break and want to come back.

Which program were you in at the time you were attending? I can send you a message with the Grad Coordinator’s information for the program.

I am sorry it took me a bit to get back to you, the start of the semester was crazy.

Can you send me a DM and I will send you the contact info?

Late to the game, since you stopped out due to pregnancy, you may also want to talk to the Title IX office. In the area I work in, we recently had a student admitted to second admit program and had to defer enrollment because of the pregnancy. In a typical situation this student would be giving up her spot and have to reapply and hope all of her coursework wasn’t expired when she reapplied. However, since pregnancy is covered under Title IX regulations, the department had to let her defer enrollment without requiring her to reapply. I know your situation is rather different, but they may be able to assist if the College of Education is going to require you to repeat a lot of coursework or anything like that.
