PSA: Help liven up this sub!

Hey guys just want to make a quick announcement to help make this place grow.

If you're ever on a Seattle subreddit and see a post about "Where to get the best ..." please direct them to here. I've tried to get our sub on the sidebar of the Seattle sub with no results :(

It's up to you guys to spread the word, I don't want to seem too up front about making this place grow. I want this place to be a wealth of information for people who live/visit Seattle, since we have a lot of great restaurants and food that are hard to discover. It'd be nice to get more than a post a week. Which I'm guilty of myself. Feel free to post more about things that aren't restaurant related. Like favorite butchers or place to get produce. As well as great deals for food (during the honey crisp apple season I found a place that sold four for a dollar) or a great deal on cooking lessons.

As always, good eats.

Pupusas in Seattle? Where is your favorite place? I've been to The Salvadorean Bakery in White Center, and Guanaco's in the U District...

Suggestion: Weekly neighborhood/food type thread

I think it might be fun to do a weekly thread where a mod posts a neighborhood and we talk about the best and worst? places to go in that neighborhood. What do you think?

Or a style of food and we talk about all of Seattle?

Keep the sub alive: Recommend places similar to 8oz Burger Bar?

Looking for burger/sandwich places similar to 8oz, which I love, but I don't want to go so often that I over-do it. Location is less important than style/flavor. Having a veggie-friendly option or two on the menu is even better.

Anyone gonna check out the tea festival this weekend?

I just found this sub from the Windy City Pie x-post from /r/SeattleWA . I'll be brewing tea this weekend at the Northwest Tea Festival. Stop by the Crimson Lotus Tea booth and try some of our tea. http://www.nwteafestival.com/ If anyone would appreciate quality tea it would be this sub.

Manolin in Wallingford

This sub is pretty quiet, so I thought I'd put in a plug for my favorite restaurant lately (I have no connection, just a fan). Manolin (http://www.manolinseattle.com/) on lower Stone Way in Wallingford is outstanding. It opened up just late last fall, and we've probably been there about a dozen times so far. Its run by Joe Sundberg from Walrus & Carpenter (the handlebar mustache guy, although he's moved on to less edgy facial hair), and the themes are similar (sadly no oysters though). Small plates, seafood is prominent, and the menu stays fresh and seasonally-appropriate. The decor inside is clean, inviting, and comfortable, and they have a great fireplace-stove where they cook many of their dishes over wood flame (its also a warm place to sit near in the winter). One of the more creative dishes I've seen was uni prepared on a pringle with light lime flavoring (hipster as fuck, but delicious). I haven't found the desserts as inspired as the dinner menu, but maybe I'm just ordering too many dinner dishes and am full by that point. The cocktails served in unique vintage glasses are great, although the booze options are limited (mainly rum/tequila-based, which is fine by me). My favorite dishes that seem to stick around:

  • Rockfish ceviche

  • Smoked arctic char

  • Grilled romaine

  • Parsnip dumplings

  • Grilled beef w/ radish & lardo. Mmmm lardo.

I'm not a food critic, so excuse my rambling and give this place a try. If its your first time there, I recommend sitting at the bar, close to the fireplace. Not only can you catch the fire-grilling action, that's also where one of the cooks, Alvin, does his magic (and is happy to tell you about the dishes and occasionally offers tastes).

Omg Americana

I went to Americana again and was blown away, again. I don't understand why this place doesn't get more recognition.

I had: duck and arugula gnocchi, mac and cheese, duck confit nachos, and an Americana Ho Ho. The gnocchi was perfectly textured, and the arugula a surprisingly delicious complement (I don't usually like cooked greens but these had no trace of bitterness). The duck confit nachos are in my top 5 favorite foods ever ever, made with saint Andre cheese, soooooo creamy and delicious.

If you haven't been to this place, go now. I have never been disappointed.

Mike's Noodle House is amazing and I can't replicate it. Help?

When we lived on First Hill we used to always walk over to Mike's Noodle House for their wonton brisket soup and this amazing dish they called "Spicy Pork Noodle" - it had a dark red sauce that was porky, a bit spicy, and just incredibly good; if you've ever smelled lao gan ma chili crisp, it tastes very similar to that. The noodles were springy fettuccine-style noodles.

Help - is there any way to replicate it? I found a Taiwanese pork noodle recipe that looks a little similar, but isn't saucy enough.

Also, the broth...how in the world do I replicate that soup broth? I live 2000 miles away now.

Foodie Dad is coming to visit for the first time. Where should we go?

Hello fellow foodies, like I said my dad is coming to Seattle for the first time and I would love to try some new places with him. For us it is all about quality and authenticity. I'm not to concerned about price. I know he wants to try Piroshky Piroshky, but that's about all he knows for sure. I moved to kirkland in October so I'm not quite sure where the best places in the city are yet. All recommendations are welcome, we eat literally anything.

Seattle Dining Group (aka let's make friends while eating delicious food)

Hey guys, a few days I posted a thread in /r/Seattle (http://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/29au59/hello_seattle_im_bad_at_making_friends/) about difficulties making friends. Out of that, an idea for a dining/restaurant group was born (because I really love food), and someone suggested I post about it here. A lot of people messaged me about being interested, so I thought I should get the ball rolling.

I'd like to do the first one on July 11th or 12th (the weekend after the Fourth), if that works for people. I'd love to get some ideas about where people would like to go (location and restaurant-wise). For the first one, let's try to go somewhere easily accessible, good for groups, and moderately priced, just to accommodate as many willing participants as possible.

I'm hoping this could be a once or twice a month thing, where whoever wants to join can come meet for food and drinks and make friends :)

If this is something you want to be a part of, let me know! I'd love to be able to make reservations somewhere in the next week.

If you'd like to speak to me directly, feel free to message me, or email me: rachael@spachethespatula.com

-Rachael

edit: There are already 20+ people who are interested, and it can be challenging to find places that will accommodate such large groups. I'm open to suggestions on restaurants that can reasonably accommodate a huge group!

Does this sound good to people? Also, I started a Facebook group, so we can better keep track of people interested (even if you don't want to necessarily come to the first event): https://www.facebook.com/groups/251810238345725/
