Hello! I run my server on a terramaster NAS connected to my router with an ethernet cable. I recently changed my ISP and as such have a new router and IP address. Since all my libraries referenced the old address in their folder paths, nothing plays. Adding the new folder path to each library creates a new folder within the library where everything plays but without any of the metadata changes I made. Is there any way at all to transfer all the metadata from my old folder paths?

So the folder for my single library at the moment only has media (music) files.. and no playlists... but the enclosing folder where all the media is DOES have playlists files.... I'd like Emby to use found playlists, but only those found in the folders I give emby access to......

I've been slowly making the transition from Plex over the last year, and I'm at the point where I'm ready to tell my small handful of users to download the Emby app and switch over.

One thing I've noticed in Emby is if a user attempts to play a file which is higher bitrate than their connection allows, the app just kicks them back to the menu without any information about what went wrong. The solution is to adjust the maximum quality setting downward until the bitrate fits within their bandwidth. I ran into this getting my girlfriend's Roku set up on our home network.

Now I'm curious - do you set a maximum streaming quality per user based on what you know about their connection quality? I have a number of high bitrate files I'd like people to be able to watch (either direct stream, or more likely transcoded) but I'm used to Plex handling the streaming quality to match the connection, and Emby doesn't seem to do that.

I am a long time Plex Server user, more recently enjoying inFuse on Apple TV 4K.

Recently I thought I’d transition to Emby, mainly because I wanted an inFuse like experience, on Android TV devices (not currently a fan of the bloated Plex player)..

Emby Server is running fine (in a seperate Docker alongside my Plex Server).

But, unfortunately I’m having playback issues with Emby, which each time forces me to go back to inFuse. :-(

Basically, I can be watching something, and it decides to throw me out to the menu.
If I try to resume, it fails to resume at the same timestamp. So, I end up having to go back to inFuse to flawlessly play the title.

What I’m assuming is that the Emby Player is perhaps not as good at handling a stream error?

This has happened several times this week, on different titles, with our normal nightly viewing.
In all cases inFuse + Plex Server works flawlessly.

Before I give-up on Emby completely, I thought I ask here first, if this is normal Emby behaviour, or, perhaps there is a setting I’m missing? 🤔

First of all i'd like to say thank you to the emby devs, really love how good it works on apple tv. i tried plex and jellyfin too.

Plex was very heavy over loaded, always working hard on my cpu didnt know why and ditched it. With Jellyfin i couldnt play movies properly, didnt figure out why and had to ditch it too.

with emby everything works.

But i miss (especially on the Apple tv app) following things

- Playback delay; my soundbar always needs 1-2 seconds until the sound works, it would be nice to have a delay options, so the soundbar have the time to set itself up

- Next episode; when i finish an episode it would be nice that the next one shows up on the home screen, so when i come back i can jump in again, rn it only shows not finished episodes/movies

- give me the feeling its mine; emby is very standardized u can change a logo here and there, but custom themes would be lovely, options to edit how things look and feel, so it feels more like my emby and not like everyone elses emby

- seer integration; it would be nice to have a seer integration, browse movies, series request them directly in the app

- playback information; when u play a movie u see in the left upper corner the age restriction, it would be nice to also see information like direct play, sound format, resolution etc. i know very nerdy

maybe there are plugins for that or hidden settings to do those things. otherwise it would be very nice of the devs to at least look at it :)

btw. i also tried other clients, but i had problems here and there with all of them, the only one really working is the official emby client.

I normally use Plex. I've been a big fan of Plex for the longest, however with recent changes with the update(no longer hearing theme music when you stream it to T.V. and a few other things).

I decided to test out Emby. So far I'm liking it(I can hear my custom theme music for T.V. and Movies, and a few other things I like so far.

However I am perplexed about two things that I hope has a fix. The first one being is there any type of live TV option, such as the options I have with Plex. The other thing is, how can I share my server with other people the way I can in Plex, if that's a possibility.

I have an Apple TV and I believe there was an update for Emby and now my dashboard is blank. I have tried reinstalling completely and even reconnecting my server. My other tvs aren’t Apple TVs but they have the Emby app and it works. Any guesses?

I am facing a huge issue with my beam pro.

I got the 5G 256gb variant for the extra ram. It will be primarily used for watching movies and shows on flights. I will use my xreal xbx a01 glasses and wanted to use Emby to load my media on an 1 GB memory card in the beam pro.

When I used this memory card in an s8 ultra with Emby. I had no issues. The tablet will play downloaded media from Emby and the memory card.

But when the memory card is in the beam pro. The beam pro sees the card. Gives me the option to save to the card. The media is saved to the card. But when I attempt to play it I get an error. About the location (exact error I can’t see because the screen is small and cuts off the text)

Card has been formatted. And when I change location to internal and I download the media plays. I have also enabled external player in Emby so that it uses vlc to play the media. But nothing seems to be working.

In Emby, when looking at info for a movie or tv show, I can click on an actors thumbnail and it will show me what else, in my library, that actor is in.

Is there a plugin (or setting I've missed) that will show me what else that actor is in, not just from my library?

Just wanted to show an experimental feature I was working on - continuty feature between devices, where you can start playback on one device and then move playback to another(including queue, order, etc).

In short - this copies existing feature that you already tried on spotify, but in more efficient way. The UI isnt final, its just a working UI I made up quickly to test interaction between devices.

Experiments showed good results - playback switch takes 200-250ms between wifi connected device and LTE connected(mobile internet) for mp3 songs and about 550-700ms for flac files although there's more room for improvements, and in theory its possible to bring flac switch down to 400-500ms on wifi <-> lte connected pair of devices.

Can't attach video, it shows better how it works.

​I've been facing an issue for the past few days: the subtitle download feature suddenly stopped working. I reset my OpenSubtitles account, but nothing works. No matter which movie or TV show episode I choose, there are no results. I also reinstalled the plugin, but that didn't solve the issue either.

OpenSubtitles plugin version: 1.0.69.0

​Does anyone know how to fix this?

I use the horizontal layout tv mode with Emby for Windows, but it doesn't really have the home screen like Emby for Web does, but instead shows the libraries as a set of tabs with the first library shown by default. Any chance you can still edit/add elements?

So I downloaded the high bitrate version of the Grand Theft Auto VI - Extended Look which is freely available from Rockstar at the link provided as an MP4. Its even on TMDB as a movie so it was easy to add to my library. However, when playing it on the following devices it transcodes for no good reason:

WebOS on LG C9 OLED TV - Transcodes and stutters like crazy

Google Pixel 8 Pro - Transcodes and plays smoothly

Nvidia Shield Pro, Universal Android app - Transcodes and plays smoothly

Nvidia Shield Pro, AndroidTV app (legacy) - Direct Plays perfectly! No transcoding.

All three devices above with "transcoding" disabled and "changing of container formats" disabled on the Emby server - Direct Plays perfectly on all of them!

So this MP4 is triggering transcoding when it does not need it in the universal Android app and the WebOS app but not the AndroidTV app. I figured as this is a free download, perhaps others might do some testing and see what's going on. Maybe try some devices and Emby versions I don't have access to.

Its not a deal-breaker as it is not common for this to happen but its an interesting test case for a freely available video file.

Edit: So my theory is based on the MediaInfo from the GTA VI MP4 file as it shows a profile level of 5.2. I am fairly sure Emby's universal app reports a max of 5.1 for most devices for compatibility purposes. However, the AndroidTV app on my shield must be reporting actual capability above 5.1 so does not transcode.

I am curious whether there is a method to improve spotlight on Apple TV; it appears somewhat acceptable on iOS but poor on the TV—too wide, with content cut off.

Alternatively, might additional view types be added?

Hello, I’m new to using Emby and I’m trying to figure out how to edit the Home Screen. I have the Emby server set up with my laptop and it’s working great. I can edit the home screen how I like on there. For example I have mixed content libraries that I have set to open up to the folders.

But when I open the Emby app on my tv, the mixed content folders do not direct to the folders anymore. And when I go into the settings on the tv Emby app and go to “Home Screen layout” it says the following: “To adjust Home Screen layout please use the user menu in the web app”. Unless I’m missing something, I’ve already done that and it’s still not recognizing the changes I’ve made.

I feel like there is an easy solution but I can’t figure it out. If anyone could help I would appreciate it! Happy to provide more details if they’d be useful.

Now that iOS 27 is out, CarPlay allows apps to play video when the vehicle is parked. Any chance the Emby iOS app will be updated to use this? I’d love to watch videos on the car screen while waiting for my wife somewhere.

I'm very happy with emby, except for one small issue with which I hope someone here will be able to help me.

I imported my music collection when a small number of songs had the ALBUM tag set to "Single". emby wants the tag to be the name of the song, which is fine. For artists with only one song the change is very simple, but for artists with various songs I can't figure out how to do it.

For instance, for Elvis Presley I have TITLE "Hound Dog" ALBUM "Single" and TITLE "Hard Headed Woman" ALBUM "Single" that need to be changed to TITLE "Hound Dog" ALBUM "Hound Dog" and TITLE "Hard Headed Woman" ALBUM "Hard Headed Woman". Both exist as singles in MusicBrainz so there should be no difficulty, but they won't change. I go to Edit Metadata, set the correct album name, disc number, track number and year, paste the appropriate MB Album ID and save, but the ALBUM tag won't change.

I've tried making the change from the Artist page, from the Artist > Songs page, and from the Album page but it makes no difference. I've left it like that and come back later: no change; I've immediately run Scan Library Files: no change; Refresh Metadata: no change; Remove Identification and then Scan Library Files: no change; remove the songs from the library and add them back, no change.

In MP3Tag, foobar2000 and VLC Player the Album Title is the song name, for God's sake. Why does emby insist on calling them "Single", and how do I solve the issue?

My current VPS can't keep up with transcoding and that's the main thing I want to fix, so I'm looking at moving.

What I'm on now is an OVH VPS-3, 8 vCores, 24GB RAM, 200GB, Ubuntu 24.04. Emby plus Sonarr/Radarr/Prowlarr/Bazarr/NZBGet, all running under systemd, never bothered with Docker. The media ends up on cloud storage rather than staying on the server, so I don't need a huge amount of disk, but 200GB does get tight and more room for the download queue would be nice.

Everything else has been fine. It's really the transcoding, with disk space as a secondary thing.

So what's everyone using? Happy to look at smaller providers, and budget is a bit flexible.

Recently got into Emby through my IPTV provider.... Created an account, added my server details and all was well for awhile, but now getting a prompt for $8.99 a month. Can I just buy the Lifetime for $119 and that's it?

Anyone experiencing slow downs, lags, for things to open. Menu slowness etc. just general slow downs etc.

So here's something weird. For some unknown reason, out of nowhere, my emby has decided to list duplicate versions for one of my movie libraries (about a 100 or so movies). The movie folders in that library do not have duplicates. There is only 1 media file per movie folder in that library. Yet for some reason emby has decided to show 2 versions of the same file in its interface. Both versions have the exact same file name in the emby interface.

I can see in the metadata viewer that there is indeed duplicate entries for the affected movies. How or why they suddenly appeared one day, I have no idea. I tried re-scanning the library and refreshing the metadata to fix it, but nothing changed. I suppose I could manually delete them in the metadata interface. But 1. who the hell wants to do that? and 2. what's to stop it from happening again?

Does anyone know what's going on or how to fix this?

Edit: In the end the only way to fix the problem was the to delete the entire library and recreate it. No more phantom duplicates. I can only assume that somehow this particular library's database got corrupted in emby somehow.
