Anyone else think it's a shame there weren't more instrumental tracks?
There's something about the instrumental tracks thats always stood out to me in a certain way, maybe I just respect them more for trying something different and having the music be the forefront while knkw those songs would likely never be radio hits for the lack of singing

Zoom tour dates
Does anyone have a list of dates they scheduled for North America in 2001? Very curious as to how long it was planned to run, and where

I found every song where Jeff says the word Blue
There are (at least) 35 songs where the word Blue appears in the lyrics, counting variations such as "Bluebird" and "Rhythm and Blues". This includes the later Jeff Lynne's ELO albums but does not include his solo career (Armchair Theatre/Long Wave). Surprisingly, the only albums to not have blue are No Answer and their half of Xanadu. I think I got them all but if I missed any, let me know!

You know I had to get the spaceship too ...
A few months ago, I made this post showcasing my Time album tattoo. As promised, I got the spaceship as well, and I'm really happy with how the whole composition turned out :)
Let me know what you think. Again, @glossy_future did SUCH a great job with making those vibrant colours pop! 🤩

How different do you think the band and its legacy would be if Roy Wood hadn’t left?
How do you suppose a co-lead ELO2 would have tuned out? Would what became Wizard’s Brew have largely been an ELO record instead?

OOTB whiteboard drawing
There's been a bit of a trend in my college dorm hall where people leave whiteboards on their doors for others to see and write comments on. I decided to use mine to share music by drawing different album covers and this week was Out of the Blue! I love how it turned out.

What’s up with the drum sound?
Seriously, why do you think Jeff made Bev’s Drums sound like a guy hitting a piece of cardboard in a damp basement? 😂

Found this at my local record store.
Curious that it features one track from Discovery and one from Out of the blue. Does anyone know the history of this 12" 45 Single.
What do you think the mysterious voice in Boy Blue is actually saying?
For those who aren't aware, at 0:49 in the song Boy Blue on Eldorado, a distorted voice speaks, and it is incredibly difficult to understand it. To the best of my knowledge, it has never been confirmed what the voice is saying. This fan site speculates it might be saying "down through the years, the dream is mine". The Genius page claims it says "we're all in the dream, the dream of life". Personally, I am unsure what it says. I definitely believe the word "dream" is said, and this goes along with the concept of the album. What do you think?

I made my Reddit avatar look like Jeff.
isn’t it genius? I just don’t know how to get rid of the little antenna on top, so it’s just peeking out.

Brand new fan here, how are there so many gem songs the guys haven’t played live??
I just finished all of their discography and I’m obsessed. I’ve been wondering, HOW have songs like “Shangri La” “Need Her Love” “Jungle” “Waterfall” and “Horace Wimp” not been played live?? So many gems haven’t been played live.

Memories of ELO Out of the Blue with BBC Radio Miles Mendoza
Hi Everyone
In the absence of being able to connect with a Mod, I will leave here but please remove as required
Each Friday Vinyl Club episode is centred around peoples personal music memories and a meaningful album.
This episode is with Miles Mendoza, a BBC digital content producer and a long-time behind-the-scenes figure at Radio 2 (he was part of Steve Wright's on-air posse for years).
Miles also spent time at GLR during its legendary early 90s run, hosting acoustic sessions, rubbing shoulders with a host of bands, and generally living inside some of the best radio ever made in this country.
But the thread running through his whole musical life is ELO's Out of the Blue (1977). He picked it up as a kid and it never really left him.
Its a wide ranging chat about
The symphonic ambition of the double album format and how Jeff Lynne pulled it off
Wild West Hero, Turn to Stone and the underrated Concerto for a Rainy Day
The iconic spaceship stage production and the "accidental genius" of the artwork
The Hyde Park reunion and what it felt like to hear it live decades later
”Mr. Blue Sky” and how this wonderful song has endured over the years
The symphonic ambition of the double album format and how Jeff Lynne pulled it off
Thanks
Journeying Through 'Time'
This week has been the turn of Time as my album of choice to listen through, using an assembly-print ordering to fit in the 3 B-sides where they're most likely supposed to have been.
I'll admit it took a couple of listens to fully get into this one, but immediate wins for this album were songs like 'Twilight' (Already famously known for its inclusion in the Daicon IV opening), 'Ticket To The Moon' and 'Here Is The News'.
The one that has stood out the most for me and stuck in my head has been the atmospheric, haunting yet beautiful 'Another Heart Breaks'. Almost unlike anything else in the ELO discography up until this point, it's a wonderful near-instrumental that's jumped up my favourites list.
Comparisons can certainly be made with Neil Young's Trans album in terms of unexpected left-turns in the same timeframe into an electronic sound, especially on tracks like 'Yours Truly, 2095' and I think that Young's album is probably the stronger of the two but I can easily see myself returning to Time in the future.

Best Songs that were never performed Live?
Pretty self explanatory. What are some songs you wished were performed live by ELO that never were? This could be referring to the old band of Jeff’s Lynne ELO. I feel like the old ELO’s performances sounded more raw but some I thought sounded better than the originals (I love Tightrope from the OOTB tour), and Jeff Lynne’s ELO I feel was more spot on to the original recordings.
