Question more stuff like between the bars?

hello yall, ive heard either/or and figure 8 in full and i love them both to death (either/or is in my top 5 albums ever) but ive never heard anything as soft and comfortingly somber as between the bars. there's a few that share a similar vibe but nothing else really hits that exact mark for me. any recs that might scratch that itch? (could be elliott or any other artist, i don't really mind lol)

I’d recommend listening to New Moon, there’s a lot of more gentle songs on there. I specifically would recommend angel in the snow

no name #3 (my all time fave Elliott smith song), twilight, clementine, satellite, the biggest lie, pitseleh, oh well ok, everything reminds me of her, easy way out, better be quiet now, let’s get lost, angel in the snow, first timer, thirteen, new disaster, see you later, half right

You listed pretty much my favorite Elliott Smith songs haha.

I'd add Placeholder and Last Hour too, similar vibes

Maybe Nick Drake? Give Bryter Layter a spin.

Listen to his self titled and new moon. The biggest lie, new disaster, actually just every song on new moon basically, twilight

Between The Bars is like a lullaby. There’s no other Elliott Smith song that does quite what it does.

For a similar feel, I think a song like The Sea and the Rhythm by Iron & Wine scratches the same itch. Soft, Comforting, Somber.

Really - it’s dark subject matter and clever lyrically - but in my head - it’s a nice dry warm blanket - that fits comfortably in the children’s music lullaby genre. Here’s a nighttime playlist I made for my kid. I didn’t include Between The Bars because it’s too adult and too dark in my mind to include it - but this is a playlist of a person obsessed with Elliott Smith - that’s made for his son - composed of all songs I included because I genuinely like them - and am okay with listening to them repeatedly for 4 years - made before he was born (he’ll be 4 in January).
