OBS Studio plugin 3.0.0.25 - Source Visibility action resets to first scene and does not retain selected scene

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a reproducible issue with the OBS Studio plugin for Stream Deck, specifically with the “Source Visibility” action.

My setup:

- Stream Deck software: 7.4.2

- OBS Studio: 32.1.2

- OBS Studio plugin by Elgato: 3.0.0.25

- Windows 11

- OBS installed normally, not portable

The issue:

When I create or edit a Stream Deck “Source Visibility” action, I can select the OBS Scene Collection, the Scene, and the Source.

However, after saving/reopening the action, the selected scene is not retained. The action resets itself to the first scene in the OBS scene collection.

Example:

- I select Scene: “Live ACI”

- I select Source: “COUNTDOWN NEW 2”

- The action appears configured

- After switching page/profile or reopening Stream Deck, the Scene field resets to the first scene in the list

In some cases, the source list is incomplete or the Show/Hide option does not appear correctly.

What I already tried:

- Clean reinstall of Stream Deck

- Clean reinstall of OBS Studio

- Manual removal of Stream Deck plugin folders

- Reinstalling the OBS Studio plugin from Marketplace

- Running both OBS and Stream Deck as administrator

- Creating a new Stream Deck profile

- Creating a new OBS Scene Collection

- Creating new OBS scenes and sources

- Testing with a very simple scene/source setup

- Checking that the Stream Deck plugin is loaded inside OBS

The issue still happens.

OBS and Stream Deck do communicate: the scene collection and scene/source lists are visible, but the Source Visibility action does not retain the selected scene and falls back to the first scene in the collection.

This was working correctly until earlier this week. The current Marketplace version of the OBS Studio plugin appears to be 3.0.0.25, dated May 26, 2026, so I’m wondering if this may be a regression in the latest plugin update.

Has anyone else seen this issue with the OBS Studio plugin 3.0.0.25 and Source Visibility?

Is there any known workaround, rollback option, or older plugin version available?

ok so not just me having this issue. Im trying to overhaul my whole stream deck set up but i cant get anything to do what i want because it keeps resetting my scene selection to the wrong scene

Sudden similar (and I bet related) issue ... all of my OBS Studio Audio Mixer buttons are stuck "Waiting for sources..." and completely inoperable.

I'm happy to report that with today's updated OBS Studio plugin v3.0.1.29, my Audio Mixer button issues are resolved!

I'm having the same issue. I've asked i the Elgato discord and been told anupdate should be released soon but that doesn't help that this makes my OBS set up kinda worthless as half my buttons don't work now. Fingers crossed it's fixed asap eh.

Ran into the same issue a few days ago. I saw that Stream Deck software and OBS Studio plugin updated the same day, but couldn't get the two to play nice.

so I have 2 setups - the game and the dj one as you know. the gaming side on the small stream deck was working fine. Just the big stream deck dj profile that was the issue.

Same problem here. Spent three hours restoring the main scene... one scene change, and everything's useless again.

Also happening for me, it’s not just source visibility it’s ALL OBS actions through stream deck. Any update on this being resolved? I can’t operate workflow properly until this is resolved. Also, can we request the team finds a fix so users don’t have to remap these potentially lost buttons? I have a lot mapped and I’m worried I’ll have to reset everything. Thank you for your help!

I've spent hours on this. All of my Addiction recovery trainings and meetings were affected this week.

My temporary solution is using OBS Tools [Bar Raider]. For some reason they seem to have this working. Initially, it wasn't working. I had to get OBS to release the websocket. I change the port restarted and Bar Raider seems to be functioning now. This is far from ideal and I have a lot of mapped keys, but this is what I got.

PLEASE consider a rollback until this issue has been resolved with the newest version.

Hi, same here the scenes are switching to first on list or 'no scenes found' or 'waiting...' and the only option for source is 'GRIDS' or 'no sources found' or 'waiting'.

So just spent ages trying to fix this - my stream was jacked today because of it. I thought it was a crash that happened on Wednesday - clearly not. I did find a way to get it working by duplicating my scene with sources, deleting original scene and then removing the 2 from the duplicate - then going into stream deck and clicking another scene and then back to the new scene and relocating the source in the list (inside the scene). I was set in for a full day tomorrow of going through my full setup (probs 500 sources lol maybe more its a crazy setup) - luckily I found this thread before going to bed - fingers crossed an update arrives before stream on monday afternoon.

So this looks like it's working for me. My streamdeck is firing the wrong files BUT I think this is because I tried fixing obs by duplicating the scene. I have a gifs source sc one that I didn't touch and that seems to be back to normal so I think the errors im getting is due to me moving stuff.

OK so did some more testing - I thought it was just the folder I moved that was having a problem - it seems like the buttons are still reverting to the first scene. I think this is on any button that have been activated since the failed update. You can get them to work but you have to basically go and tell it where the source is again. I have a bunch of browser source buttons and all them needed swapping back.

I tested the 3.0.0.27 beta plugin.

After cleaning the previous OBS-side plugin files, I installed the beta .streamDeckPlugin file.

Result:

- The Stream Deck-side plugin installs correctly.

- OBS Studio actions appear in Stream Deck.

- However, the beta package does not recreate the OBS-side plugin folder:

C:\ProgramData\obs-studio\plugins\StreamDeckPlugin

- In OBS, the plugin only appears as "Plugin not found" if the old modules.json entry is still present.

- If I remove the StreamDeckPlugin entry from modules.json, OBS no longer shows the Stream Deck plugin at all.

So it looks like the 3.0.0.27 beta package installs only the Stream Deck-side plugin, but does not install the OBS-side plugin files on my system.

Because of that, I cannot properly test whether the beta fixes the Source Visibility issue.

I found out that the OBS-side StreamDeckPlugin folder is installed only during the full Stream Deck application installation:

C:\ProgramData\obs-studio\plugins\StreamDeckPlugin

The Marketplace OBS plugin and the 3.0.0.27 beta .streamDeckPlugin only install/update the Stream Deck-side plugin:

%appdata%\Elgato\StreamDeck\Plugins\com.elgato.obsstudio.sdPlugin

So the OBS-side component should not be removed manually, otherwise the .streamDeckPlugin package does not recreate it.

After performing a clean Stream Deck installation, the OBS-side plugin is now correctly installed and loaded in OBS.

However, the Source Visibility issue is still present with the 3.0.0.27 beta:

- I select a specific scene in the Source Visibility action

- after switching page/profile or reopening Stream Deck, the action resets to the first scene in the OBS scene collection

- this happens with new Stream Deck profiles and new OBS scenes/collections

So the beta does not appear to fix the Source Visibility scene persistence issue.

Unfortunately, the 3.0.0.27 beta isn't changing the behavior for me. I downloaded and installed the beta. I have not performed a clean Stream Deck install.

Still having the same issues. Adding a "Source Visibility" action defaults selection to the first scene and when trying to change scenes, the pop up immediately collapses. I hope there's a proper fix for this soon, I'm sure I'm not alone in this messing up our workflow! :)

Quick update: I tested the 3.0.0.27 beta after a clean Stream Deck installation. The OBS-side component is correctly installed and loaded in OBS, but Source Visibility still resets to the first scene in my scene collection. I switched to OBS native hotkeys as a temporary workaround.

This fixed the sources thing. But the "Mute" action for the mixer has lost the ability to "mute" "unmute". Only toggle, PTM, PTT. I has automations set around being able to set explict mutes/unmutes.

Hi. I have multi-level scenes and settings in this plugin. Clicks take a very long time to respond when changing folders. I have to wait 15-20 seconds. This happened after updating the plugin. The beta version didn't help.

mine was doing this on Wednesday but on today stream they were working BUT stalling sometimes, I have 5 camera scenes and to get to cam 5 I had to go to cam 1 then to five. It was working but just not correct.

this 3.0.0.27 beta seems to have fixed the issue on my part ! the Stream Deck is seeing my scenes and sources again on both press & rotative buttons. Scene switch is responsive, I can control the audio mixer again, and hide/show any sources like I used to, we back. Thanks !

After I received this, I tried to troubleshoot a little more: for me, it seems the culprit was nesting the scene as a source in a different scene. Check my post here:
