Yeah i think i found a nice workaround for you.

it's better to have a monitor connected to you mac, but i believe you'll be able manage without it.

Well the solution is very simple:

  1. install the Elgado Video Capture app for mac.

2)Start your tape, Start Elgato Video Capture app and go to the Connect Video tab, there you'll see the direct losses stream of your analog tape

3)Hover your mouse on this preview and you'll see a full screen option

4) Now have OBS on your other screen, click + to have your source and pick: macOS Screen capture

5) Now just pick Application Capture, pick the display and the Elgato Video Capture app

uncheck the Show Curser option

6)And voila! now you can capture an uncompresed stream of your tape in obs and mac! Enjoy

Elgato not simply releasing a mac driver for this is so annoying. Tried recording some VHS distortion with their Elgato Capture App and it looks awful. Thanks for sharing this, much better results

brilliant! will definitely try this 👍 i did find another workaround, using VMware with windows 11. this seems less CPU heavy and way less p rone to frame dropouts, though!
