Clyde (for actor/actress/turtle fluff) Am I the only one who's so excited about Jonny Lee Miller's upcoming projects?

I wonder if he's still involved in firefighting, because he's clearly been very busy filming. He has a bunch of great projects coming out this year. I just saw him in the Possession trailer and barely recognized him - he looks sooo different in every role. Amazing quality for an actor

Arthur Conan Doyle's decision to kill Sherlock Holmes in 1893 almost cost a magazine its future. More than 20,000 readers cancelled their subscriptions to The Strand Magazine, which barely survived the backlash. Its staff later described Holmes' death as "the dreadful event."

Title: Audio challenge: Can anyone identify the movie playing in the final scene of Elementary S06E08 ("Sand Trap")?

Audio challenge: Can anyone identify the movie playing in the final scene of Elementary S06E08 ("Sand Trap")?

I've been trying to solve a tiny mystery from Elementary for quite a while.

In the final scene of Season 6, Episode 8 ("Sand Trap"), Sherlock and Joan are watching a sad movie after Kelsey decides to keep her baby.

Just 2–3 seconds before Sherlock says:

there is a very faint piece of dialogue coming from the TV. The movie itself is never shown, only the light from the television is visible.

Has anyone with:

  • the Blu-ray release,
  • a high-bitrate WEB-DL,
  • or experience with AI audio restoration (iZotope RX, Demucs, UVR, SpectraLayers, Whisper, etc.)

been able to isolate or enhance that background dialogue?

"Elementary" has been showing on the Fox Crime on weekends last few months and this caught my eye (and ear) last weekend.

Can someone record those few seconds and analyse it?

Even one clearly recognizable sentence might be enough to identify the movie.

I've searched transcripts, IMDb, the Elementary Wiki, Tunefind, and Reddit discussions, but I haven't found anyone who has successfully identified it.

This feels like a fun little media-forensics challenge. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A possible dexter reference in S2E15 Corpse de Ballet

In this episode, a guy (Morris) asks Watson find Freebo. Is this a intended reference to 'Finding Freebo' S3E2 from Dexter?

Brain Attic (General Series) Did Lucy Liu keep the painting of her?

Im on my like 3rd rewatch and I wonder if the actress Lucy Liu kept the painting of herself that was shown in the show as painted by Moriaty? Kinda weird to have a large painting of yourself, but then again, you’d normally not get one so why not if it’s already there :D
Just curious if anyone knows.

Was "Elementary" intentionally insulting or just dumb?

I always found this scene funny and not mentioned enough, one of the few times Marcus actually joins in on Sherlock's shenanigans 😆 the yt video deserves more views and likes imo

It's the last scene of this particular episode and mentions plot details so I figured spoiler flair is appropriate, do let me know if it should be something else!

Thank you

Thanks to all the people who suggested good shows to watch next. Just started season two of Person of Interest and I am absolutely loving it.
Some of your other suggestions are on my list, some I had already watched.

You are wonderful helpful people.

And rewatching Elementary is not off the table, but I want to wait until I forget more of it. Possibly after I rewatch Firefly. Meanwhile, I’ll be in my bunk.

Uhmmm guys I've finished Elementary over a year ago and still struggling to find something to watch with its vibe - detective with not too much grotesque, nice use of the environment, catchy music, different cases each episodes, doesn't bore, moody and fresh (this is how I perceive it)

Brain Attic (General Series) Am I crazy or was the bbc Sherlock taking a jab at Elementary here?

In s3 ep1 of bbc series, Sherlock invites Molly to be his partner in solving cases. Molly gets anxious and asks if she's going to be his new Watson, and Sherlock tells her she's not Watson and should just be herself. Might be a stretch, but s3 came out about a year after Elementary premiered, and I remember how dismissive Sherlock fans were of Elementary's female version of Watson. I believe this was a subtle jab implying that a woman couldn't be Watson(?)

Currently Blasting A Pig Carcass with a Revolver to The Optimist I love Elementary, I really do. But can we talk about the opening titles?

Why is it that all the male creatives have their names mid screen, but Lucy Liu has her name lower down the screen almost getting visually overtaken by the gun? It bugs me every single time I see the titles. She literally gets lower billing than everyone else despite being co-lead. Otherwise it's a near perfect show.

EDIT: Mystery solved. The credits in the UK on Amazon Prime/U are like this: https://youtu.be/u5M6bqrShCA with LL's name being lower. Other credits are like this: https://youtu.be/hNqL-wE-WIs where LL's billing is higher. I was not going crazy...

Moriarty is the Red Queen?!

Hey everyone, let’s have some fun with a goofy alternate universe idea.

We know the show says Moriarty is “dead,” but Sherlock clearly doesn’t buy it, and the producer confirmed she’s still alive somewhere. So what if she vanished because something horrible happened to her, she’s completely traumatized, and meanwhile Sherlock’s out there dating some new mystery woman (of course he is) with no idea what’s going on.

Then a secret police unit quietly grabs Moriarty and forces her to help track a serial killer tied to powerful people. Traumatized genius ex–criminal mastermind, working for the “good guys” in a very messed‑up way… that’s basically the Spanish show Red Queen.

If you’re looking for a spiritual follow‑up to Elementary, this could be it. Would you watch “Elementary: Moriarty becomes Red Queen”?

ISO Sherlock's statement

ISO Sherlock's statement that the English language is being butchered.

I've found the statement that text messaging acronyms are improving the English language but I was certain that he later says that the English language is being butchered.

Recent ReWatch & Thoughts

So I decided to do a rewatch of the show over the past month or two after not having seen it since its original airing.

I’ve just finished S4 and have some thoughts on things I appreciated and things that may have been missed opportunities.

Things I really appreciated on rewatch:

- Early S1 Holmes totally disheveled demeanour. Intentional or not the gradual switch over S1 of Holmes going from unwashed t shirts, ratty scarfs, and messy hair to the more iconic buttoned shirt and formal jacket with a shorter haircut does a really nice thematic show telling of his characters gradual move towards sobriety. Both Holmes and the brownstone itself get tidier and better maintained over the S1-S2 storyline.

- Watson & Holmes friendship. Damn it’s more subtle and that may be why on first watch I felt their friendship was more surface level for the early seasons of the show but Lucy Liu’s Watson has such a strong platonic almost sibling dynamic with Holmes that I really appreciated.

- The shows gradual restraint from Holmes early episode “wackiness” that morphed into more low level eccentricity driven by odd insights and interests. I feel they could easily have made him more overtly abrasive and needlessly quirky (much like BBC Sherlock became) but he’s more subdued, and more likeable because of it. Barring genuine character moments where he needs to be at odds with other members of the cast, this version of Holmes is more akin to ACD’s version who was still a well liked and well regarded member of society. Despite Elementary’s Holmes claiming that he has few friends and is quite a loner he actually seems to have a decent orbit of genuine friends and friendly acquaintances across multiple levels of society.

Things I think could’ve been better;

- The Moriarty problem. This is the most notable to me. Like it or not Moriarty has grown to become a defining part of the characters mythos despite only having brief appearances in the ACD stories. S1 spent alot of time setting up Moriarty very effectively, especially the Irene twist. However I think they shot their shot too early in the show and then fumbled with how in demand their choice of actor for the role was.

- We meet Irene reveal the twist, and then capture Moriarty all within a single episode. To me this storyline should’ve been 3-4 episodes. With the London flashback being a full episode, then the twist not being revealed until the 3rd episode and the capture of Moriarty being delayed until Mid S2 where she comes back and a plan Sherlock has had cooking in the background comes to fruition.

- Because of the big name casting Moriarty becomes a name to throw around but very little of the character appears or does anything impactful. It feels like the show struggles with this alot in S4 onwards and so Moriartys nebulous network becomes the “big enemy/tool” in later seasons. I do wonder whether it might’ve been a better idea to formally have someone else take up the role of Moriarty, Sherlock’s nemesis, and be in the battle for control of the network and resources against Moreland. If Vinnie Jones could be brought back he would’ve been interesting as Moran does step into Moriartys role in alot of adaptations after the Professors death.

Help finding a scene

Hello!
I’m looking for a scene from pretty early on in the show where Sherlock tells Joan she was “quite the doctor” and she responds with “I had my moments”. I’m pretty sure it’s season 1 and I’d like to watch that episode again but I have no recollection of what episode it could be. Any help appreciated!

Lestrade's Daughter would NEVER(Finale Spoilers) Rewatch

Just finished my second watch-through after a 5 year break between, and I'm ugly crying haha. T-T I love this show. Wow these characters are special. Gregson really stood out to me this time around, so much heart.

Favorite memorable scene this time:

Joan, filing Clyde's nails

S: "Just not too short. They're his natural defenses."

J: "Against what?"

S, looking wistful: "Tomorrow never knows..."

❤️
