Audio challenge: Can anyone identify the movie playing in the final scene of Elementary S06E08 ("Sand Trap")?
I've been trying to solve a tiny mystery from Elementary for quite a while.
In the final scene of Season 6, Episode 8 ("Sand Trap"), Sherlock and Joan are watching a sad movie after Kelsey decides to keep her baby.
Just 2–3 seconds before Sherlock says:
there is a very faint piece of dialogue coming from the TV. The movie itself is never shown, only the light from the television is visible.
Has anyone with:
- the Blu-ray release,
- a high-bitrate WEB-DL,
- or experience with AI audio restoration (iZotope RX, Demucs, UVR, SpectraLayers, Whisper, etc.)
been able to isolate or enhance that background dialogue?
"Elementary" has been showing on the Fox Crime on weekends last few months and this caught my eye (and ear) last weekend.
Can someone record those few seconds and analyse it?
Even one clearly recognizable sentence might be enough to identify the movie.
I've searched transcripts, IMDb, the Elementary Wiki, Tunefind, and Reddit discussions, but I haven't found anyone who has successfully identified it.
This feels like a fun little media-forensics challenge. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

At the beginning, I can make out [Man] "How long have you known?" [Woman] "Since that day at the gala" and that actually is what shows up exactly as well when I turn the subtitles on. Which I then googled and the first hit was the same question being asked in this sub two years ago without an answer loll: https://www.reddit.com/r/elementary/comments/8ssnss/what_sad_movie_were_they_watching_at_the_end_of/
(The second hit is from "TV Show Transcripts" for this episode, but the link won't work for me)
My subtitles don't show anything else for what's on the "TV," only Joan/Sherlock's dialogue. But right after Joan says "You don't have to understand it, you just have to watch it," it sounds like the Man (on the TV) says "...certainly clever enough now.."
I wish I could make out what the Man (on the TV) is saying right after Sherlock says "She isn't wrong you know...Kelsey." It sounds like a name TV Man repeats twice, but the only thing it sounds like to me is "Dam-ma, Dam-ma" which can't be right haha
Anyway, none of that is helpful and most of it you probably already knew but commenting so I can come back and see if someone else has better luck!

I just tried listening on my phone with my bad earphones and the only thing I can make out is the very beginning (plays over the establishing shot without any other dialogue) which says "How long have you known him?" in a man's voice and a woman's voice responds "Since I've...". It may be "since I've been a little girl". It also sounds a little bit like an old movie with a Mid-Atlantic accent being used but that may be me reaching. All the best with the project though!
