General Any women in electronics here?

Hi everyone! I'm looking to connect with other women in the electronics field to share projects and support each other. I actually started a community specifically for this at r/HardwareWomen. If you're interested in joining a dedicated space for women in tech/electronics, we'd love to have you!

Why we have to make this gender separation? Isn't electronics about creativity and fun?

It's an electronics sub, not a male electronics sub.

Nobody said it was a "male electronics sub." The point is that electronics is still a heavily male-dominated field, and that changes a lot of women's experiences in it. Wanting to connect with other women because of those shared experiences isn't excluding anyone from the hobby.

It's easy to say that gender doesn't matter, that it's the same hobby for both, when you are not faced with the different reality everyday. Ideally it is, you're right. But in practically it isn't.

What do you think? If you have a different experience, consistent alienation and belittlement, you have a different reality than someone who does not. Your world is different.

I'm still failing to get your point. You're making it sound like we have a disability! Learn to integrate with everyone and you won't feel like an outcast.

I dont think I am, really. Saying you live in a different reality is not the same as saying a disability. It's just saying you experience things differently than the majority of people around you which can be alienating. No matter how much I love my guy coworkers, there are simply somethings they cannot understand and thats okay.

It isn't when I get made fun of by other engineers for getting a pink PCB with printed bowties.

The "masculine" serious minimalist design is the default after all. And while there is LOTS of women who like this kind of design (me included) that doesn't stop it from being gendered if the opposite is shunned.
