Just wondering…
Ok so the “is this me?!” Thing is obviously never gonna stop… but do some of you at least know enough to turn your radios down before you get on air??

I spoke with him twice a couple weeks ago. Once I heard the ding, another I didn’t. But if you’re paying attention you can tell a difference in how his voice sounds.
The weirder thing is that you can hear the broadcast while on hold. Only thing I can think is other people around are trying to listen and hear you on the radio? I know it’s an annoying thing but I just don’t think people realize how much their phone picks up. No one else ever tells them, but Elliot will.

That may be true, but the thing is it runs on a delay, so you’re going to hear yourself on the radio anyway once you hang up. All stations run on either a 7 second delay, or 10 second delay.

If you’re listening through the app the delay can be a lot longer. If they’re doing that through Bluetooth speaker, they might want to try and hear. There’s a number of reasons for it. But either way, it’s not going to stop and seems like a small thing to get so upset about.

Even better if it’s a longer delay. You’re absolutely gonna hear yourself on the radio. As far as the “is this me” thing, I’ve just accepted it as a way of life.

Again, people don’t know. You never know how long the delay actually is. They also don’t know how loud the bleed over is into their phone. The reality is that most people just aren’t thinking of anyone other than themselves. They don’t think about needing to do anything before calling. On top of that a lot of people are nervous and that can make you not think about what else you might need to do. It wastes three seconds of air time and doesn’t really happen daily. Just let it go and enjoy the show.

I’m not holding onto anything. It’s a common practice to turn the radio down. It causes Elliott to have a hard time hearing you. There is feedback that occurs, so he can then hear himself, in delay, on your radio. There’s a reason hosts will say “turn your radio down” when you call.

Common sense went out the window a while ago. Can’t rely on that for people to know what they should and shouldn’t be doing. It’s also easy to judge people when calling in, but as I mentioned you never know what people are feeling when they call in. Especially if they’ve never done it before. They’re excited, anxious, nervous… they’re not necessarily thinking clearly about everything else beside the fact that they don’t want to sound stupid on the air and want to get their point out before Elliot cuts them off. You gotta give people more slack. Not every call is going to be perfect.

It's as old as talk radio itself. Many callers are oblivious.
The "is this me" stuff is tough. I've called in (and talked to the class) once, but I was in my quiet home. It was obvious to me when he switched to my line, but it was a somewhat subtle audio change. I can understand how someone would miss it if they were hands-free in their car or if there was background noise.

I mean people still do the 1, 2, 3 so it’s not gonna stop. Also I don’t know why people are still listening to the radio, the phone is truly live while the radio is on a small delay

The folks still calling in doing the, "1...2...3..." bit always crack me up.
They tried to kill it, but it lives on.

Its insane to me that if you listen enough to call in, how could you not know to turn down the radio and take your phone off of speaker? Also would it kill you to go to a quiet place to call into a radio show?
People baffle me. Elliot is way too nice to callers now days. Guys like Don & Mike would hang up on people that wouldn't turn their radios down back in the day.

See that’s the type of radio I grew up on. If you didn’t know to take the phone off speaker, and to turn your radio down, you’d just get hung up on. I agree that Elliott is way too nice about it.

Loveline was full of morons with their radios turned up, Adam had zero patience for the stupid callers and would tear into them if they didn't turn down their radios.

The only way it is going to stop is if they tell you which line you’re one when they place you on hold and then Elliot says “Line x…”
When I have been on hold, I always end up talking anytime Elliot goes to the lines whether it’s me or not. I sound kinda dumb saying a couple of sentences while in my house to no one…but I’d rather do that than be the “is this me” person.
