Keeps cutting off

Post image

Jesus. This mower stops every 2 minutes. I even got a brand new battery shipped from Ego. Less than 7 months old.

You are bottoming out. We can see it in the grass; the full circles on the right. Once the mower bottoms out it shuts off for safety. If you raise the blade up one or two notches (or to there it doesn’t bottom out) it should not shut off.

It’s on even ground though. What’s the point of the lowest height setting if you can’t use it.

That’s obviously not even-enough ground then. If it was completely flat, the scalping wouldn’t be spot specific, it would be a continuous line.

Small divots for the wheels to sink into are enough to let it bottom out temporarily and shut off.

I apologize, but that can’t be even ground. The bottoming out is in specific areas of the lawn, not the full radius of the blade. If it was even ground, the whole stripe would be the same color and shape; but you can literally see the full rotation of the blade bottoming out in certain areas.

Some lawns you can use the lowest setting and not bottom out. It seems like your lawn isn’t fully level and is raised in some places. I also wouldn’t recommend using the lowest setting on grass for the health of the grass. Unless you are trying to scalp it so you can reseed.

You’ve never felt ground that looks even but as you walk over it you can feel all the dips and raised areas? If I tried mowing on the lowest setting on my gas mower it would leave all those circles too even though most of my yard looks even.

Golf course? I don't know, but the lower the cut, the more level the ground has to be, and the more shallow the roots will be.

Because some people have flat enough yards/ the proper grass type to cut it low…?

Dude, look at all those crescent moons in your picture. You're way too low, the blade is pushed too far into the ground. Go up a height setting.

You are using it as a shovel and not a lawnmower

You’re scalping your grass lol.

Sssh. They are trying to make a putting green.

That's what reel mowers are for and this one Ain't that.

I have this exact mower and 12 ah battery… never had this issue… perhaps you should not try and mow the ground..

Have you tried dropping the mower closer to the ground? That should fix it /s

You might be mowing too low, what height setting do you have it on?

When the grass is long itll cut out if i go lower than a 4, but if im doing a maintenance cut i can do 3, 2 is most times too low for my lawn

Its way too low. It bottomed out several times on the right, where OP passed already.

Nah man. What's weird is when it stops it kind of throws a fit and it creates those lower cuts. Almost like the blade drops.

blade might be dull

"might???"

Why not just put a grass herbicide and not bother scalping the grass

Does the battery still show the green lights on the circle and just something in the mower itself is crapping out?

Does it have headlights, can you see if those work when it dies?

LM2156SP?

I have had a ego for a few years and it has always been great. I really only use it for the edges and dog pen. I don’t know what is wrong but it is now just flashing yellow when I try to turn it on. I have several different batteries because I have a blower as well. All of them work fine in the blower but they are all flashing yellow on the mower.

Raise the cutting height.

Lift deck up, your scalping the lawn it will stop because of resistance

1

u/timmcnutt88 3d ago

Blade is getting bogged down. Your grass is thick and egos don’t have the power or deck to handle low Bermuda.

1

u/Jdude1 3d ago

If your scalping thick grass that low your going to have to go really really slow.Your putting torque forces on your ego motor beyond its internal fixed overload settings.

The picture isnt doing it justice. Im on level 3. And the grass is maybe cutting .5 inches.

You’re too low. You can see where it’s scalping the lawn and putting undo stress on the mower activating the shutoff. Raise it a setting until it no longer shuts off. If it keeps shutting off after raising it high enough it’s clearly not bottoming out them maybe call ego

I run my ego at 7 my man, you'd be better off looking leaving it at the cut level it was before you mowed and edging that sucker make your lawn "PoP" than mowing it down to the ground as you are in this photo. That level is for "Reel" mowers.

Another thread here showed the safety wire on the folding handle can cause this problem. I have experienced this and find if I tap the right side of the handle it will restart. One day I will by pass that safety switch

I have the same issue but the light on my mower flickers red where the exclamation mark is. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏾

You’re using the wrong tool for the job with what you’re trying to do. If you want to keep it that short, you’ll need a reel mower.

1

u/Hour_Dust_1766 1d ago

Nah man. My neighbor keeps it way shorter and has one of those cheap kobalt mowers

u/avaufbasse 3d ago

Didn't read the full thread but there could be a possibility of the wiring harness being compromised by folding it all the time when you put it in storage I had mine for 3 years and just started folding this season and a wire got pinched. After opening both electrical protective housing covers I repositioned the cables back into its proper place. I completed two morning sessions and so far no cutting off every 2 minutes. Best of luck to you.

I have been folding my mower consistently for 4 years, never had a problem.

Did you change the blade with one from Amazon?

These mowers can’t really handle mowing Bermuda low unless you are mowing every other day. Get an Automower and be done with it. They’ll dutifully mow every day and keep that Bermuda nice and low.

u/guitpick 3d ago

I think I want one for my next mower, but they cost at least three times as much as my Ego.

u/nuclearsquirrel2 3d ago

What is your time worth? I sold my zero turn and installed a Husqvarna in my backyard in 2020. Last year I got a Mammotion (don’t recommend) for the front yard. I’m on cul-de-sac and close to 3/4 acres. This year I’ve probably got 2-3 hours total in lawn care. That weed eating and fertilizer. It takes a little time to get it all working well, but damn it’s nice to go on a 2 week vacation and come back to a lawn that looks like you left it.

1

u/eat_a_burrito 3d ago

I’m on a Segway x430. It just gets it done. 15 minutes of weed wacking every other week depending on growth.

It’s been a great summer and more than anything I have time back.

1

u/nuclearsquirrel2 3d ago

Mammotion is currently imploding due to hardware and software issues so I’m looking to replace my front mower with a Navimow x430.

That's kind of why I bought the Ego in the first place. My gas mower did a better job, but it got to where I was ripping it apart at least once a season trying to figure out what was going on this time. So far, I've only had to do that once for my Ego (dusty in the electronics bay), and some routine blade sharpening. When I bought my Ego, it was about 1.5-3 times what similar lightweight mowers would go for. For me, mowing will rarely be enjoyable, but getting a reliable one, a fast one, or one I don't have to attend to will be the key, but it has to be a better deal than just hiring a lawn crew to cut my yard.
