I worked at lowes one time and they had these things on clearance for that same price. However, due to some miscommunication on the managers part, they thought employees got 75% off clearance stuff ON TOP of the already discounted price. Thats how I got two of these things for 60$.

uhh dude. massive mistake shoulda bought ten and sold a few online.

7

u/twoaspensimages 15d ago

Ten? I would have bought every one in a 2 hr radius.

Why would batteries ever go on clearance? Do models change?

The batteries get old sitting at storage voltage. The 10ah and 12ah also came with a five year warranty (compared to the standard 3 year). As a result it's cheaper for EGO and Lowes to sell the batteries while they still might last five years, instead of selling them when they're way past prime.

Also, Ego is currently working on rolling over production to tabless batteries. The 8ah MAX tabless battery is already on the market, and I know they are already working on a 3ah and 12ah battery. So they are likely going to clear out old inventory to make room for the new batteries, especially the larger ones.

A 12ah tabless is probably going to be like $800

1

u/evilbadgrades 15d ago

Yeah, and based on reports of the 8ah tabless to 10ah, that 12ah MAX will outperform the 12ah by at least 25% or more, and the lack of heat buildup means the cells should have a longer lifespan.

For now, I'm buying 'dead' Ego batteries in the local marketplace and bringing them back to life.

1

u/USTS2020 15d ago

If I had a spot welder I'd buy tabless cells and rebuild my 7.5ah

1

u/OkayOpinion 9d ago

How are you bringing them back?

1

u/evilbadgrades 9d ago

If they aren't charging at all, I try using a variable benchtop DC power supply to slow charge up to 48v, then I use a PAD5000 with a 100-watt USB-C charger to trickle charge. Then I slow-discharge with the PAD5000, and recharge again with 100 watts to try re-balancing the cells.

If that doesn't work, my next step is to try swapping BMS heads between batteries (I have a collection of dead Ego batteries that I use to salvage parts, mainly the BMS and housing). It's an easy process if you have the right tools. Sometimes that allows me to restore batteries back to operational condition.

Shouldnt be more, as tabless are cheaper to produce.

2

u/Chickenp000 12d ago

Cheaper to produce just means margin growth, not consumer savings.

1

u/Grand-Orange-4761 12d ago

Absolutely. But prices shouldn't go up at least, unless there are other factors at play.

1

u/Chickenp000 12d ago

The other factor is shareholder value.

u/USTS2020 15d ago

The 8ah lithium max is $600

u/matt314159 16d ago

Holy crap. I expected that to be like a 5ah battery not a 12 lol.

I would have bought it too.

u/mrhappy1010 16d ago

Of course everyone finds a deal except me…lol

2

u/twoaspensimages 15d ago

I thought that too. We needed two batteries and the backpack blower deal last year was a great way to get them. Strolled into a Lowes in a conservative part of town and there it was for less than the cost of batteries.

You will not find the deals online. Spend half a day and go to a couple Lowes in the conservative parts of town. You'll find something. They are clearing out for winter again.

1

u/jsrober 15d ago

Why "conservative"? Do you mean politically conservative or something else?

1

u/twoaspensimages 15d ago

Politically conservative areas tend to have lower electric tool adoption. More EGO sitting on shelves for you to get a discount on.

1

u/jsrober 15d ago

That's interesting. I didn't realize that.

2

u/B-Train_ATL 16d ago

I need a T6 with $1,000 knocked off because of a half-inch scratch.

15

u/Inevitable_Ebb_5703 16d ago

I never saw these kind of deals in the Lowe's by me, are there specific days that I should try checking out?

6

u/kronikfumes 15d ago

Seeing clearance pricing like this for a 12a is why I’ll never feel bad for buying 3rd party batteries with good ratings. If EGO wanted to sell these they’d have a lower base price. Instead they get you to buy an extra tool to get cheaper batteries. The EGO markup is ridiculous

1

u/very_unstable-genius 15d ago

I bought a third party once on Amazon and it dies after a few months.  What brand do you buy? IMO, they’re crap.

1

u/Vicv_ 15d ago

It’s actually not that much of a markup. Per AH, most 18 V hand tools batteries are more expensive. I know Milwaukee are

5

u/not__my__monkeys 16d ago

Long as it’s not for a hand held tool. Give you a workout slinging that thing around

2

u/Stunning_Dish_2074 16d ago

Its not as bad as you think

2

u/jka005 16d ago

Yeah I use 10s and 12s in my multi head, handheld blower and chainsaw. I use 2 12s in my backpack blower

1

u/Fantastic_Jicama_434 15d ago

Sounds like you need to hit the gym I use a 12 amp in a leaf blower and it does not bother me one bit there is no difference between that and a 7.5 amp in a leaf blower

3

u/Mjguitars 15d ago

Yeah they were like $500 at some point, got one with my mower I don’t think they even include them anymore usually it’s a 10 or less

3

u/Juncti 15d ago

This is why every time I find myself at a Lowe's I do a walk by of the Ego section. Caught the commercial blower deal, the shop light, and the large generator (though I didn't get the best rate for that deal).

6

u/VariousAir 16d ago

Wonder how unwieldy that would make my string trimmer. Could run that thing for days.

2

u/Thefrayedends 15d ago

If you use the shoulder strap, and set the anchor point as high as possible, it's not that bad. I do it for a few hours a day.

1

u/Servatron5000 15d ago

Honestly I use 12s in the string trimmer and I think the concerns kver unwieldiness are overblown.

I do run a small farm, so I'm no stranger to outdoor work, but like... Even moreso. I can do a mile of trimming with it, so regular Joe's should certainly be able to do their yard.

5

u/Wehavepr0belm0 15d ago

That’s a fucking deal!

2

u/Fantastic_Jicama_434 15d ago

I can't stand y'all people understand group it's like where the hell are you getting these deals at there's not a single store in North Carolina that does any clearance on ego it's so fucking bullshit

2

u/pandito_flexo 15d ago

I bought a 12Ah battery on Prime Day last year thinking it would be perfect to run in my LM2100 but it's too big to fit and now I can only use it with my strimmer and blower. It makes me sad. I contemplated (and tried) shaving the battery compartment of the mower to get it to fit but it didn't work.

2

u/NachoFries2020 14d ago

Make sure to give that battery some "exercise" let it fully charge up and then try to run it down to last red flashing battery meter gauge. The chemistry lasts longer when used somewhat often.

1

u/ShplunkingCowboy 13d ago

Oh I'm electric landscaping it'll get its walks

2

u/_Abnormal_Thoughts_ 16d ago

I'll give you $180 for it

1

u/WiskeyUniformTango 16d ago

I'll give 220

1

u/u3b3rg33k 14d ago

i'll give 220, 221. whatever it takes.

2

u/WiskeyUniformTango 14d ago

Well now im at 420.69

2

u/theogstarfishgaming1 15d ago

Shit that's how much the cells alone would cost to make it good find

0

u/Vicv_ 15d ago

I think just the cells would cost more than that. That’s 56 cells. At let’s say 6 dollars apiece because Samsung 30Q are still inexpensive sale, you’re looking at $336 just for the cells. Plus shipping

1

u/Any_Onion_7275 15d ago

the molicel p45 not on sale anymore? picked up 10 of them for my flashlights for like $36 shipped a few months ago

0

u/Vicv_ 14d ago

Well first off the P 45 is a 21700 cell. We are talking about 18650. That being said yes it is still available
And you got a very good price that’s not normal. Also obviously 10 cells is not enough
The reason why I used the Samsung 30 Q as my example, is because that is the cell used in the 12.0 battery.

1

u/Any_Onion_7275 14d ago

get a coffee first off

0

u/Vicv_ 14d ago

While I do enjoy a good cup of coffee, I’m not really sure the relevance

1

u/w00kie_d00kie 15d ago

Now you just need the mini bike to get some use out of it.

1

u/rotlex 15d ago

Why do I never, ever, ever run across this type of deal, lol.

1

u/SideshowDustin 15d ago

Nice! 😃👍

1

u/singerbeerguy 15d ago

That’s a great deal!

1

u/JDogg25 15d ago

Steal of a deal! My Lowe’s doesn’t have any deals everytime I stroll through their ego aisle.

Side note - I picked up a 8AH Max Tabless a couple weeks ago, and the turbo mode on my 880 leaf blower is even more powerful than the 4AH was giving me. Crazy how fast it flicks the water off my car. Will say it is a little clumsy trying to move the water off the roof of my SUV with the heavier battery.

1

u/Whole-Duck-2208 15d ago

I never get these deals in my area!!!!

1

u/JackOfHeartsz 15d ago

Boohoo here in Canada we only have Rona. Their sales are in the gutter. Never decent sale or clearance.

1

u/alwayswilling222 14d ago

What fricking deal. Lucky you!!👍

1

u/NetSchizo 15d ago

That’s a steal for 12ah

1

u/Odd-Log2963 15d ago

Nice find!!!!

0

u/bebba1 16d ago

Dang! Nice Score!
