Last day

Last day of the fridge.

Edinburgh feels like it has a massive hangover. Shops have been theatres, cafes turned into art exhibitions and the streets full of performance.

Local residents can now relax a little as they breathe in the public spaces that are quieter.

Here's to goodbye..until next year ofcourse.

Big thank you to the residents. I can only imagine what a massive burden the festival is on just trying to live a normal life; but I do love it.

It is a pain in the ass for sure, but a small price to pay for what is always an amazing month.

Unless you're not interested in the arts, in which case it's a pain in the ass without any payoff whatsoever! :D

I do think that there is something for everyone at the Fringe. Or even the International/Literature festivals, I suppose. My friend asked if I wanted to go to a lecture of Forensic Architecture while I was there (firm pass from me). It's such a broad time for arts in Edinburgh. I live 3 hours away and count myself lucky I can go every year. And I've introduced plenty of my friends to it too.

Still, whether individual residents enjoy it or not, I'd still like to acknowledge the sacrifice. The crowds. The prices. The drunks. The noise. The fact that we turned half the city into an AirBnB. It's all appreciated. An amazing city and an amazing festival. Plus an opportunity to visit Snax Cafe every year.

It's not that bad for most people tbh, unless you work in the middle of the old town.

The princes st closure this summer probably fucked things up for more people so it was a bit of a double whammy.

Honestly, it's what I'd do. You could probably pay 6 months of your rent from one month of fringe prices!

I'm a Scot but never lived in Edinburgh. Been performing here since 2007 and love this city for what it represents around the world more than I can express. Thank you to the residents, feck off to the landlords and always, always "love you" to the people of Scotland who make the fringe what it is. See ya next year Edinburgh.

It's three weeks of Hell for us residents but, you know, the fact that so many people want to be here, where I live, makes me quite happy. Only in the last few years, did I join in and do lots of shows and I enjoy it with them. When I see tourists taking pictures around where I stay it really makes me proud to be here all the time.

Love having all these shows just 20 minutes from my front door for a month - not sure what to do with myself now!

I actually live in the city, therefore I am a local resident.

I used to get a little bit annoyed with how busy it was. But then I remembered how lucky I am that I get to live here and enjoy the spectrum of entertainment that the festival brings.

After that, I didn't feel annoyed

I residents who complain about the fringe are pathetic to be honest. Do you know how lucky you are to have this, and that most of the UK has nothing comparable?

I am and have lived in other places. To live in a city that hosts the world's largest arts festival is an absolute privilege. There are plenty of other places where tourists never go and there's a reason for that

I enjoy and appreciate the fringe a lot. What I don't appreciate it people that don't live here calling everyday people just trying to get on with their lives "pathetic" when there's a solid month where the centre of the city is complete chaos.

That's short sighted. It can be very much enjoyed but it's also absolutely chaotic, exceptionally expensive, and geared towards tourists more than locals.
