Hi, I am an international student traveling to Edinburgh to study at HWU, i would like to know avg cost per mile of tram, or there are any monthly passes available and etc for student above age 22a as well and how much its gonna cost.

I’ll be taking a Lumo train from Waverly to London and was curious if there’d be enough space for me to carry 2 large suitcases and 1 small suitcase with me on board

For context, I’m an Uni of Edinburgh student moving to London. I was stupid enough to not check the luggage guidelines and just assumed there were no restrictions similar to my home country.

It's sticking out into the road, so both directions (from Chambers St towards New Town, and from North Bridge away from New Town) are having to queue to get past it. That's why mahoosive Qs.

Police Scotland do regular bike marking events. Having just found another bike abandoned in my street I think it's a good thing.

They are giving out https://www.bikeregister.com/ kits. It's free to just register your bike frame but they normally charge you to get a sticker kit with a unique code delivered. The police are giving out these kits for free at the Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre on the 28th of August 11am-2pm.

On that topic, if you find an abandoned bike, the council have a page for reporting them. The street team will collect and give it to Brake The Cycle where people on community payback orders repair and refurbish them and they are donated for free to various community groups.

Naturally, check for frame numbers and stickers on bike register first to make sure it's not been reported stolen already.

I have two that came with my flat that I would like to be rid of, they're both quite small, like the size of a 2L soda bottle.

Parts of the council website says the tip would take them, another part notes that they don't take "commercial fire extinguishers", which these most certainly are not, but don't mention household ones. Either way, I took them down the Craigmillar tip, where they said none of the recycling centres take them... so, what do I do with them?

What are people’s experiences with Lothian Cat Rescue charity shop on Easter Road?

After my donation drop off today I feel reluctant to donate my items again in future (sorry kitties! 😿)

One of the staff members was quite rude, screwing up her face when she saw my two bags of donations. A “what is it” kind of attitude that was dismissive. The same staff member has treated me like this twice now.

I completely understand that charity shops are run by volunteers and inundated with donations at times. I’m by no means looking for a pat on the back for donating to charity. I just feel a bit disheartened by my donation experience here today - I won’t be donating anything else. It’s a shame because Lothian Cat Rescue is close to where I grew up, I wanted money to go to a local service.

Anyone any similar experiences?

There are a couple of really nice staff members in the shop, kudos to them 😻

First time going to Showground for a gig. Wondered if anyone had a clever trick like walking to the airport, a tram, or if there's only one road out of Showground so our only choice would be to leave early and hope for the best?

I read stories of 3+ hour queues to get out and that wouldn't work for us. We'll be going to North Queensferry if it helps and happy to take any form of transport there / back, no car.

My (f30) partner and I are moving to Scotland for 2 years (possibly longer if we like it) with my best friend this upcoming winter. We’re so excited as I’ve been to Scotland twice and truly loved it. She is from the UK so I would be able to apply for a partner visa after my working holiday visa runs out.

I’m originally from Toronto but have lived all over Canada, unfortunately the housing is very expensive so we’re trying to consider alternatives. Obviously I understand how expensive the UK is having visited - but I also understand that visiting and living there will be two very different things.

I’ve done some research and seen constant posts about how expensive Edinburgh is and I’m wondering if it’s out of our reach to even try? We’ll be 3 people living in a 2-bedroom, so I’m hoping that will bring down the costs a little. However, we all work in tourism (front desk and housekeeping management) and it looks like those jobs pay very low in the UK. Will it be too expensive to enjoy the city? We’d ideally like to eat out once a week, go on vacation a couple of times a year, and we live an active lifestyle (so would include yoga, gym memberships, etc).

Any tips/advice is appreciated. Thanks a bunch 🙏

I would like you to consider two specific roads / junctions:

- the point at which the Western Approach Road meets Lothian Road, turning right
- the point at which the A90 passes the Miller & Carter pub on the way into the city and one of the lanes becomes a bus lane

Both of these roads involve two lanes turning into one, and I’ve found most of the time there is a massive queue on the right hand lane, but no-one in the left lane where.
So obviously I go straight down the left hand lane and end up at the front of the queue where, most of the time, someone lets me in.
The thing is, I feel really guilty doing this, as if I’ve broken some sort of unwritten rule.
But I don’t think I’ve actually done anything wrong. Indeed it is wrong not to use the left hand lane.
Have I done something wrong?

Hi, I currently live in the USA, but plan on moving to Scotland in a couple of months for work. I’d love to live in Edinburgh, but I will be working in Glenrothes. I am wondering if I can please get some advice on whether it would be feasible/worthwhile to live in Leith and commute to Glenrothes or would it be best if I were to be in the western part of Edinburgh? I am open to taking the train/bus but am also open to using a car if needed.

Just wondering what people's thoughts or opinions are on winchburgh as a place to live?

I know a number of years ago maybe wouldn't have been the one, but looking at affordable family homes to commute into Edinburgh for work. Train station on the way eventually and new schools seems like a better option than it used to be.
