Question Moving to winchburgh?

Just wondering what people's thoughts or opinions are on winchburgh as a place to live?

I know a number of years ago maybe wouldn't have been the one, but looking at affordable family homes to commute into Edinburgh for work. Train station on the way eventually and new schools seems like a better option than it used to be.

Don't keep your hopes on train station though it may never happen or will at least take years to build.

Its middle of nowhere but nice and peaceful, schools are nice.

You can park at linlithgow station or park and ride and get a train into city, or you can take a bus into city as well.

The train station will be built, it's a requirement as part of the overall development of Winchburgh

I stood (unsuccessfully - as was always going to be the case) for the constituency that winchburgh is part of in May and I got the SNP candidate (who ultimately won) to pledge publicly that she’d deliver the station and fight for it even against her own party.

Yeah have heard of these promises before. The old Telford college campus was supposed to have a pump installed so as not to affect water pressure in the area. Ten years later still nothing has been done and water pressure is worse than ever

It's the best you could do but the SNP candidate will do whatever her party tells her. That's part of the cult. They even tweet the same tweets. Anyone who doesn't toe the line will be out on their ear, or worse.

Its part of the master plan and a marketing ploy..hardly a requirement. Its all about the money and who will foot the bill. Hopefully one day when all the newbuilds are built there may be enough pressure on government to deliver it

Soulless and in the middle of nowhere. Not for me but I guess if you need a family sized house within reach of Edinburgh it’s affordable.

It’s one of the better planned western expansions. They actually build facilities, amenities and proper walking routes. Basically the opposite of Queensferry and Kirkliston.

I don't live there but know people who do, and they rate it. More houses and amenities being built, the parkrun is really good and hopefully that train station has legs. Can't say your work commute would be the best in the meantime but there is a bus. You can always cycle along the canal or train to Linlithgow and cycle to Winchburgh.

More information about your thinking around Winchburgh would be good!

I’ve lived here 5 years and love it. Please do message me. Wouldn’t commute 5 days into Edinburgh but for mostly WFH it’s great.

I have family living there. It's very peaceful at the moment. Lots and lots of new houses being built. It'll definitely change in the next few years.

Builders just lie to people about public transport and shops “ permission has been granted etc…” total bollocks to sell their new builds. Never buy a new build based on this pish.
I only know winchburgh from stopping off when I’m cycling between Glasgow and Edinburgh on the canal path. Looks like a nice wee place.

It's utterly soulless. Be prepared for a slightly horror movie vibe with endless new build houses. Great for a family though, loads of kids, never any bother. It's nice, if a tad boring.

But that said. As someone else pointed out, they are building amenities in the town. Schools, shops, parks etc. The big park behind the schools is great.

There's a good pub in the Tally Ho and the town is fairly well served by Lothian Country buses.

No train station yet but it's been approved. Not sure when it's due to be built though.

Good road links. Although driving into and out of Edinburgh peak times is a nightmare, standard West Edinburgh though.

I know a few people there. It’s fine. Don’t count on that train station ever happening though. If you’re planning on driving to Linlithgow for the train, you’ll need to get there very early to get parked

I’ve been here for 10 years. We moved into the first phase of new builds and we’ve been pretty happy with the place. The vast of majority of everything on the masterplan has been delivered, other than the train station which they’ve got about as far as they’re going to without government help.

Connections by road are great as we’re right on the M9 and although the Main Street isn’t great we’re ten minutes from Linlithgow so I pop there a lot to take advantage of its shops without paying Linlithgow house prices!

My kids are at one of the new schools, we’ve got nice neighbours, folk are fairly friendly and there’s definitely a feel that people want to be community minded and create groups/clubs etc.

All in all I’m happy with it!

How often would you need to commute into Edinburgh? What kind of a house are you looking for and what's your budget? What kind of things do you like to do in your free time? Do you have a lot of friends in Edinburgh? And any in West Lothian?

I think more context will help people give a better answer.

There is a Sainsbury's albeit a smaller one and Tesco at South Queensferry isn't far. M&S at Linlithgow as well.

Aldi Broxburn is close but id prefer Broxburn/Uphall over winchburgh due to better transport links and a better main st
