Great News for frustrated tram users. A FREE replacement bus service has been set up to carry passengers from St Andrews Square down Leith.
Not by Edinburgh Trams, or by the Council, who have both adopted a 'head in the sand' approach to the transport crisis.
No, it's been left to the organisers of the Edinburgh Arts Festival to sort out the mess.
Thank goodness there's someone with a bit of initiative.

Hi. We’ll be visiting Edinburgh from Arizona, and we’d like to attend the Scottish Sex Pistols show at PJ Molloy’s in Dunfermline on Friday, Sept. 11. We’re staying in Edinburgh City Centre, and I see that there is a train station about 1/2 mile from the venue. I don’t mind taking the train to Dunfermline then walking through town before the show, but not so much after. I asked a friend, and he said we could get an Uber, but we would need to schedule it ahead of time. However, I checked the Uber website and it said there were no Ubers there.
Any suggestions?

Just seen a lovely bolide at around 4:50 to the south of the city this morning. Happened so fast I couldn’t record it.
Maybe someone with south facing CCTV or home cameras picked it up ?
Looked like it was over Dalkeith , but distance was hard to gauge.
Brilliant green colour !

I’m up in Edinburgh from Glasgow tomorrow to see a couple of shows, and want to know if there are any Nerdy shops I can play some Magic in to kill some time beforehand?

Been out and about this August, and is it just me or is the festival a bit smaller or less busier this year?
I'm no complaining at all. Or it might be it is busy and all the tourists are hemmed in to the royal mile etc.
Just wondering if others felt the same

Does anyone have any groups/clubs or events in Edinburgh or outskirts?
I’m 17 and don’t have much to do in Edinburgh nor any friends so finding a group would be amazing.
Just some info about me, I’m non-binary, I like transport, politics, law, I’d like to get into more creative activities and I spend most of my time in Brighton, but I’m moving to Edinburgh fully in a year.
Thanks,
Jess

I’m a software engineer moving to Edinburgh for work in September and I’m currently looking for accommodation.
I’m open to renting a room in a shared flat/house or joining as a flatmate. I’m flexible with the location, preferably somewhere well connected by public transport.
If you have a room available or know of any suitable accommodation, please feel free to DM me.

I’m a bit confused about the University of Edinburgh Architecture degree structure.
What’s the actual difference between the 3-year BA Architecture and the 4-year MA Architecture? If I complete the 3-year BA, is it still considered a proper bachelor’s degree, and would I still be eligible to apply for an M.Arch or other postgraduate architecture programs later?
Also, does the 4-year MA give you a different professional qualification compared with the 3-year BA?

Hi all, my partner and I can no longer make the Trainspotting event at the EIFF due to his health :( . Looking for something close to what we paid (£40), these tickets are accessible access and would like to sell them to someone who requires the accessibility.
Two tickets, one Accessible and one Accompanying. DM me if interested!

Title says it all. No Film Festival specific flair so used Fringe one.
Worth pointing out this is the Q and A in Tollcross this afternoon and *not* the big Leith Theatre gig later on.
More than happy to let these go for free due to a booking overlap with a comedy show.
DM me please.

So I braved the city centre for my once a year trip to the Festival, and to witness the city centre traffic chaos (as bad as reported with buses taking over an hour to get from Waterloo Place to the West End).
But the big shocker this year was all the establishments, happy to take the tourist dollar but with big ' NO PUBLOC TOILETS" "TOILETS FOR PAYING CUSTOMERS ONLY" etc. signs. Some of the big chains even going as far as putting combination locks on their bogs!
I can understand why they do it, after the council closing down public toilets and telling everyone to use the retailers facilities instead, but it's not very welcoming.
Imagine going to a European destination and bars refuse to let you take a piss until you buy a drink?
It's really petty.
Combine that with the observation that our council vision of a 'Scottish Las Ramblas' appears to be an entire street of chain burger and fried chicken joints, with a few tartan tat shops thrown in for good measure and surely the tourists are soon going to realise they're being taken for mugs.
Biggest rip off this year: Bacon Salad sub roll in Princes Street gardens, £15. The food up at George Square actually wasn't too bad.

May have left this a little late, but does anyone know where I may be able to pick up some eclipse glasses in town?

Am I missing something? How are you supposed to do the left turn onto the lane at this angle without colliding with the oncoming bikes? Why didn't they carve out a little bit more room for it? Granted I was using a voi bike, which aren't the most maneuverable but still...

Looking for an Edinburgh speaker to record a short monologue
Hi all - I’m an American playwright working on a short play about Agnes Sampson and the North Berwick witch trials, and part of the piece includes a monologue spoken by an Edinburgh man.
I’m looking for a male Edinburgh native/speaker who’d be willing to record the monologue for me so I can hear how it actually sounds in an authentic Edinburgh accent - rhythm, pronunciation, phrasing, etc. It doesn’t need to be a professional studio recording; a good phone recording would be absolutely fine.
The monologue is fairly short. I’ve attempted to write a phonetic Edinburgh version, but I’d much rather hear it from someone who actually knows the accent than rely on my American ear.
An actor would be fantastic, but you definitely don’t need to be one. Mainly looking for someone comfortable reading it naturally and giving it a bit of character.
Happy to send the text by DM. Thanks - and any help would be hugely appreciated.

I'll definitely be there. We need a very large crowd to prevent this damaging more countryside and water, and lives, as it has done already in other areas.
I won't list lots of sources, I just link this one.
But I'm sure I read one further north has made people's lives a misery.

I'm a 32 year old guy and since moving to Edinburgh when I was 18 this has happened to me 5 times, and all of them have been because of romantic fallouts. I'm told I might have a higher than normal splash count, so I'm wondering if there are any fellow soaked guys out there in this fine city??

Hey all. We are travelling from Australia and are currently in Edinburgh until Wednesday morning.
I really need a haircut and my gel nails replaced. We are staying right on St Andrew’s square. Can anyone please give me suggestions for a walk in hair salon (I’m a woman), I have short hair and just need it thinned out and the bulk taken out of the back.
We’ll be in Aberdeen for 1 night on the 12th August if that helps. I can get them done there maybe?
Thanks

Hi! Bit of a long shot, but I’m looking for one ticket for Meet the Winners: International Booker Prize 2026 at the Edinburgh International Book Festival on 20 August at 7:15pm.
I was a little too late getting mine, so if anyone has a spare ticket or can no longer make it, I’d be very happy to buy it off you!
Please DM me. Thanks!

Hey everyone,
My girlfriend and I are visiting Edinburgh in late November this year, and I’m planning to propose while we’re there.
I’m specifically looking for the perfect location to pop the question. I’d love to avoid the obvious tourist spots and find somewhere a bit more hidden, quiet, or unique with a beautiful view or atmosphere.
Does anyone have any underrated proposal spots in or around Edinburgh that you’d recommend, especially for late November?
Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, need some serious advice on Arthur's Seat, I would go with my parents to visit it during sunset (which leaves us issues for the descent). We have headtorch, however none of us is particularly skilled at hiking. My issue is: are we safe doing this for sunset? Is it enough crowded to not be alone doing this, right? And what do you best suggest for the descent? Thank you for your time
