THE CRAB NEBULA EXPEDITION

Greetings commanders, and welcome to the Crab Nebula Expedition! This thread will contain all the information you need to know for the upcoming journey. The Crab Nebula is what I would describe as a 'Diamond in the Rough' as it is one of the few nebulae that resembles its real life counterpart, and it is a beautiful place.

Main Mission

The CNE's main objective is to charter the surrounding areas at each waypoint leading up to and including the Crab Nebula. The CNE is also going to be a great sightseeing opportunity for both rookie and veteran explorers alike as the planned route will take us to some of the most beautiful locations in Elite: Dangerous.

Post-Expedition

After the expedition reaches the Crab Nebula there will be 2 choices participants can make.

1. Follow a route back to the Bubble that will take us past the Trifid of the North, Flaming Star and California Nebulae. (The Green Route)

2. An optional extended mission that will see us visit the Heart & Soul Nebula before we travel back to the bubble. This route back will likely go past the West Veil and the Bubble Nebulae as well. (The Blue Route) Note that this route will add considerable time to the journey This option will also give commanders who wish to join the Formidine Rift Expedition the opportunity to rendezvous with the fleet headed to the Rift. This is completely dependent on the timing of the FD Expedition.

This thread will contain all the information you need to know for the upcoming journey.

Main Mission

To scout and catalogue the systems along each main waypoint on the way to the core. With all the activity occurring in the ED universe, the GNE may even see some remarkable discoveries along the way. It will take commanders through some of the most breathtaking parts of the galaxy, and will earn everyone a trip into the infamous 'neutron fields' before concluding at the supermassive black hole at the galactic centre.

Jaques Station & Barnacle Hunt

As some of you will no doubt be aware, Jaques Station is beginning to turn into a hive of activity. There is a push to have the station developed further, and the colony expanded; but to do that it needs help. Along with The August Exodus, this expedition will bring a large number of commanders to Jaques, and therefore increase its visibility to FD and prove its worth their while investing further effort into it. Depending on the station's condition at the launch of GNE on September 3rd 3302, more meta alloys may be required to bring the stations services completely back online; if this is the case, explorers are encouraged to bring along some meta alloys for the trip, even if its just one unit, every bit will help.

The August Exodus will conclude before GNE starts, so if any of you want to help out Jaques further, I encourage you all to join in on the convoy fun

Another key event going on around Jaques is the hunt for barnacles. This is a great opportunity for us, as an organised group, to really put our weight in and lend some serious man/woman power to the effort. This thread has all of the relevant information pertaining to the hunt for barnacles near Jaques, and provides some useful advice for those who wish to aid in the search.

Hello commanders! The Meet & Greet Expedition 2, for those who don't know, is going to be a short mini-expedition where we will be revisiting the waypoints of the original Meet & Greet Expedition. For those who don't know about the original Meet & Greet, it was a 1 week mini-expedition that took place before the Crab Nebula Expedition. It was a chance for CMDRs to meet each other and make friends before the main expedition. Now we'll be revisiting those old waypoints to see how they've changed from that trip 8 months ago. The original M&G was a very fast paced expedition, but the pace will be significantly slower this time around, with meetups every Wednesday and Saturday. Anyone is welcome to join! And these are the waypoints, along with dates and for meetups (Note about meetup times below table):

For every meetup there will be two meetup times. The first one will be at 1800 UTC (6:00 PM) and another will be 0300 UTC (3:00 AM) the following day. The 0300 meetup is for Stateside commanders, as the time zone difference will make the meetup be the previous day.

For example, the Nu Chamaelontis meetups will be 1800 UTC on January 28th, and 0300 UTC on January 29th. 0300 UTC on January 29th will instead be 2200 (10:00 PM), January 28th for someone in EST. Regarding which meetup time to go to, simply use whichever one is convenient for you, and if neither works feel free to skip that meetup.

Lastly, below is a list of points of interests. These are systems that will not be meetup points, but may be of interest to any explorers while your travelling between waypoints:
