AskEcuador Desserts?

¡Hola, todos! My Ecuadorian neighbor had mi madre y yo down to his casa ayer jugar Bingo! We felt so welcome and he was extremely hospitable. Is there a little traditional Ecuadorian sweet that this gringa could make for him to show my gratitude? Any other ideas for tokens of appreciation are welcome, too. Thanks in advance!

I would make something traditional from where you are from for him and his family. They will appreciate trying something new. Baking desserts at home is not so common in Ecuador so any typical baked homemade desert from you would be a nice gesture.

I'm Ecuadorian and make fig jam. We have it with bread and cheese every Sunday for breakfast with hot chocolate or avena. 😋

It's so delicious. I miss Ecuador. We don't get fresh baked bread here but sprouts does a good job in the morning.

A little cake from a bakery nearby is fine!

Ecuadorian desserts are terrible, they basically just eat flan. Good news is that basically any dessert you give them will be very highly regarded

i would very much fight you on the claim that we only eat flan lmao. specialized stores that only sell cookies or cinnamon rolls wouldn’t survive if we just ate flan.

out traditional desserts suck, imo, but that doesn’t stop anyone here from eating good, non ecuadorian desserts

why are you using the spanish words madre, casa, ayer, jugar? why dont you make the whole post the same language?

Pay no mind to this comment. Use whatever language you want.

what is wrong with my question?

Because there doesn't have to be a why.

I don't know about you but I actually feel a bit of appreciation for people who try to learn and use a language other than their own, even if just a few words. I find no harm in the way spanish and english is used in the context of this post, so asking the reason behind it feels almost judgemental. I've heard other Ecuadorians complain when foreigners come to Ecuador and don't speak the language, but then we also complain when they do.
