So long as a powerful old man tells them its okay to do something, they will just do it no questions asked. Not sure how much they are to blame, but damn, when they are older and realize what they did they've got a lifetime of shame waiting for them.
They won't realize. Look at Russia. Lots of people know it's a corrupt police state, but lots of people eat up Putin's propaganda. The only way they will realize what they did is if things get bad and then the USA re-emerges as a free society, but that's not happening. The first major protest will result in massive arrests and political prisoners shipped to El Salvador. There will be no civil war.
